This looks pretty good. But I’ve got to say, just like I said with the other animations, that when you can hear the actors doing something, you REALLY need to animate it to match the sound. At one point you can clearly hear Patrick Troughton bending down close to look at something, but he still stays standing in the animation. In power of the Daleks, you could hear Patrick Troughton walking around and doing things, but in the animation he was just standing still. Little details like that matter. If you don’t animate it correctly, it will take the viewer out of the experience.

The animated version of The Power of the Daleks from the special edition released this year fixes a lot of those problems, episode 1 is practically completely new as in the original animated release they hadn't actually finished a lot of the animation yet but they had to ship it for the episode's anniversary - now in the special edition they've gone back and added a lot more nuance to the character animations, particularly with the Second Doctor and Lesterson

Dalek Bumps Well that’s good, but that doesn’t really help those of us who already shelled out the cash for the original animation. They shouldn’t release things that are unfinished. I know it wasn’t really the animators’ fault, but I do blame the BBC. I’m not going to be buying any more editions and the fact that they knew that it was unfinished and released it anyway just irritates me more.

Mmm.. there is the odd scene like that. I remember in Macra, Jamie trying the key in a door struggling to turn it but you can clearly hear he was using different keys on a bunch one after the other in the original.

@@strumdynasty3050 I agree 100%, it definitely shouldn't have been released before it was ready - there's a section in the enclosed leaflet of the DVD where one of the lead animators talks about how frustrating it was to have to ship an unfinished product

What they also should have done is follow the original camera script. These shots are all too static.

I think planet 55 should have done the animation, their work on "The Moon base" is very impressive.

Andrew Dexter this is planet 55. Planet 55 shut down and reopened at Big Finish Productions which animated this.

@@LloydEWatson1983 Exciting stuff! Each season of Troughton will only have one or two missing stories remaining. We might only be two to three years away from being able to watch the complete run of Troughton between animation and live action!

I kinda like the animation form they use for these, it just wouldn’t feel right if it was top of the notch CGI the looks photorealistic, because even the original episode could’ve live up to standards like that. This feels more true to the original and I’m happy for it.

I thought the lab would've been in a different place, like the power room is later in The Mind Robber, but I can't recall any other mention of it before or after. Unless I am very mistaken.

In the original episode the TARDIS laboratory was a completely different set. It appears here in the animation they saved money by reusing the console room. Super awesome more lost doctor who animated!! Only thing is region one here... still waiting on the release for the faceless ones... so will I get furry from the deep in 2 years from now? Also I can only find the dvd release for October 20, 2020 for the faceless ones.. no Blu rays for regions outside of the Uk?

As Pat said: WHY, THAT'S AMAZING! And from the bits I've seen, it's exciting stuff. I thought the previous animation was already great, especially with the light work, but I believe some improvements were made in this, especially with the arm movement. They used to look like stick parts, which felt a bit odd, but now there's more consideration for angles. The edges are more pronounced, but there's still some margin for improvement on the shading, though I think this is already effective and practical. The trailer already provided good lighting moments. It's interesting to see how quick and efficient these new animations are.

Because that was an error the TARDIS prop in season 5 had and so the animation team are just staying faithful.

Trashinator is easier to work with the original audio tho as they won’t need to hire sound-a-likes and I do think most stories do have their audio recorded due to fans at the time.

If you watch the tele-snap reconstruction of the original "Fury from the Deep" Episode 3, the TARDIS lab was a completely different set and didn't resemble the classic style TARDIS interior at all. When I first saw it, I was thinking 'Wait, are they really back at the TARDIS yet or are they still in one of the other sets in this serial?'

@@mrjekyllandhyde9941 the Australian company - Planet 55 - that did the animated episodes for The Reign of Terror did an amazing job, I thought. That was very slightly anime-tastic, but still with limited budget and some 2D CGI. I think that's the same company that did the Doctor Who anime fanfic video with the 3rd Doctor, the Master and the Brigadier.

This is why I just stick with the b&w versions, cuz they don't always get the colour right on some people, clothes or objects as seen in surviving colour photos or 8mm behind the scenes footage. And also cuz b&w is how the episodes were originally recorded.

I'm not a fan of this. I liked the clunky animation they did in other releases- it matched the fact this is a reconstruction better. This is fine, but feels to original and smooth.

Too bad they haven’t they reuse the animation like previously for the faceless ones, instead the crew probably use the Willas Wildlife animation from Qubo tv looking like its was from the late 2000s! 😠
