That was scary, you rely so much on other road users not behaving unpredictably.

In London, there are more professional drivers who are used to the heavy traffic amd give way accordingly. Here in the NW it's a totally different concept: "What's going on, what's all that noise. What do we do now?" Impervious!

I'm an American and I spent 15 years driving ambulances. I applaud your driving skills and siren use. I spent a couple of weeks driving around your country as a tourist and had no problems adapting to the left-hand driving, but watching this made me realize there's absolutely no way I could drive an emergency vehicle in the UK. My reactions would be all wrong.
@RandomDroneAdventures
@RandomDroneAdventures 2 года назад
I would fully agree with you, Our ambulance service always seems slow, police or fire would be a bit more aggressive with the driving. Also the standard of driving in the UK is very low, it is shocking how many road users don't check mirrors, move out the way or even look around. you can see many times on this video that people are braindead.

@@RandomDroneAdventures lets also remember that ambulances aren't the most agile of vehicles, and 50% of the time theres a seriously ill person in the back, so i wouldn't say they're slow for no reason

Turning the siren off is good practice on many grounds. No point having it on if it does not aid progress. Having it on uneccesarily means that sirens merely become background noise to the city, which is exactly why our very specialist escort bikers do not use them at all, but use whistles. Sirens also help enhance red mist in both the response driver and those around, not to mention the headaches.
@stevesmith7530
@stevesmith7530 2 года назад
@@RandomDroneAdventures You know those are usually 4 1/2 tonne vans, with a lot of weight high up, stock engines and transmissions, the only "performance" modification being the air ride suspension at the rear only that is set for weight and smooth ride ride rather than doing a roundabout at 60. I have driven them, and getting above 40 with traffic is a pretty rare occurrence. Now the FRU/RRV estate cars can be a different proposition, being car based they are a lot more agile, a lot quicker to accelerate and brake, which is one of the reasons they exist. When you talk about police drivers, there are at least two different grades, basic response that get the astras and the like, and less training, then there are the high performance guys in the big volvos and bmws, who are trained to far higher standards, and rely far more on forward planning, and less on "aggression". Fire drivers, well they start off somewhere around 12 tonnes, with standard mechanicals, and all the poor performance that comes with, so "aggression" is mostly about keeping momentum. The priority is arrive alive, arrive at all next, and arrive quickly falls down that list.

@mortgagewizard40
@mortgagewizard40 2 года назад
unfortunately our emergency vehicles cant force people through red traffic lights etc, so the procedure is to sit back and turn the two tones off so we dont force people to something silly, ie through roadworks where they have nowhere to go to . Better to wait a few seconds longer and get there in one piece. But it differs in every country
@anakinskywalker4113
@anakinskywalker4113 2 года назад
@@mortgagewizard40 very true it is different across the globe. Our laws in Australia force drivers to give way to emergency vehicles even if you would contravene any other traffic rules. If that's the Fiat, the siren noise in the cab far exceeds it's external range if the ones in East of England are anything to go by. The don't seem to carry into cars.
