I've shot hundreds of hours of video on the HPV Scorpion FS 26 trike I purchased from Utah Trikes. Shooting both with a GoPro and Sony FDR X3000. Holding a selfie stick for a few minutes would be fine, but sounds tiresome for a 2 hour ride. Mounting cameras to the trike's boom, produced useless footage due to the vibration - even with the sport cams stabilization turned on. The end of the trike's boom is the one place on the trike where vibration is amplified to the greatest extent. Another consideration is how to get USB power to the camera to allow shooting longer than the 1 hour or so the internal battery can handle. I ended up mounting to my helmet, which allows your body and neck to naturally absorb road vibration and you can shoot continuously for a 2 or 3 hour ride and never miss anything. On my helmet, I mounted a tiny "lipstick" size USB "brick" to power the camera continuously via USB. I'd be interested in an attachment that mounts a 360 camera rigidly to the trike somewhere near its center of gravity (maybe off the side of the seat?) so vibration is minimized.

One thing I didn't mention is that the Insta360 camera has stabilization built in. It really does give a smooth result. You are absolutely right though, holding that selfie stick for any extended amount of time is tiresome. We definitely need to come up with some mounts. Thanks for your comment!

Cool video, the mountains in the background are beautiful! I also love that you kept saying "maybe you could mount it to your trike". Because maybe you guys will end up designing something for everyone that wants to do that, that actually works! Simply from your own necessity... Something that absorbs the vibrations from your trike when you mount it so you don't get shaky video or audio vibrations at the mounting point transfered into your camera. Now that would be an interesting gold mine!

Thanks for the feedback! You're spot on with the idea of designing something. We'll probably be putting our 3D printer to use soon to create the perfect, shock-proof mount. Keep an eye out for that!

loved the video, however, the camera is overpriced for most people and there are a lot less priced cameras that can do maybe less stuff but get great shots as well. I use three cameras one back one front and one on a chest mount and have fun with all three and get all the photos I need including the people who throw stuff at me on the road and try to put me in the ditches. When they now know I have cameras they have now left me alone but still get close when they drive by and stop doing it when I show them I have a camera on them. I have not had any problems since they know how I can record them and send them off to the police. Again love the camera you have shown but the price is too much, for some people. Thanks for sharing and I will continue to watch your videos. Happy riding.

Thanks for your comment. You're right, at about $400 the One X won't be a camera for everyone, but as a single camera it can get the coverage of multiple cameras all at once. Also, another thing related to your comment that we've noticed is that unlike an action camera that is attached to you the One X does not seem to get as much attention when recording near people as it's less obvious that it's recording

Looks like you used a wireless microphone of some kind on this video. If so, what type is it? I saw in one of the comments you guys might come up with a mount--a boom one perhaps? A stable mount frees the hands to shift, take a drink, etc. I know you can make just about anything at Utah, so maybe you can come up with something. A trike mount for GoPro would be nice too. (If you don't, I'm going to bug TerraCycle about it 😁). I use a GoPro Hero 7 Black on a Minoura mount on my boom right now. It works great (the stabilization is marvelous), but I can only get forward shots. The 360X would enable me to get selfies of myself and my Trident trike as well as the surrounding scenery. One criticism I've heard from some 360X users is the lack of protective cases. The camera is fragile and easily broken if dropped. I like the new videos you're putting out. Keep it up. I'm in Colorado BTW...

Yes, Kait used the Zoom F1-LP lav mic on this. The onboard mic is ok if you're a couple feet away, otherwise it's about the same as the GoPro mics. We'll definitely be coming up with some mounts. The One X does have a standard 1/4in threaded hole on the bottom. Thanks for watching and commenting, we have tons of new videos in the works and want to make sure we are putting out stuff people like:)

Wow. It's strange to see the shadow on the ground while the stick is invisible.

Did your camera work right out of the box? I got one in January and still haven't gotten to work. I think it's software, but am not sure. The manufacturer is okay, but it still doesn't work….NOT cool.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for this very informative video. Between your review here, and the one Sylia Halpern(Travel by Trikes) did recently, this looks like it will be my camera choice for upgrading and augmenting my goPro Hero3+ . Well done and hey, you should be getting product placement payments for videos like this one.

Great video and it has great potential....some basic questions....battery life..how long will it run on a charge if taking a long ride and wishing to condense with time lapse option? Also...many of us ride on trails with hills( I am in New England and ride in Vermont, NH and home on Cape Cod) and often really need two hands on the controls so a stable trike mount would be essential...does an after market one exist if manufacturer doesn’t make one? The cost of the camera....and is it part of a complete ensemble kit with necessary options for proper use? For editing....any Mac or windows computer? All software included? Online tutorials available to get it up and running? And finally....it is obviously several feet away from you and it was pretty good with the audio.....but you weren’t riding in windy conditions or at any decent rate of speed.....is there a headset mic option to guarantee good sound? I ride on Cape Cod in windy conditions and I feel ,that would be mandatory for better sound pick up? Thanks for a great intro. Some more details would be very helpful. Mark

The One X battery seems to be lasting about 90 min when we use it for time lapse videos. We always carry a spare or two when we are out with it. It can also run with a backup battery through the USB charge port. Insta360 does make a bike mount kit with some useful clamps. The have free software for Mac & Windows as well as iphone & Android phones. All the audio on this video was recorded with a Zoom F1 lav mic.

Utah Trikes thank you so much for the info! Consumer reviews all state that it is a super camera but fragile.... any comments on that?
@UtahTrikesOnline
@UtahTrikesOnline 4 года назад
@@markfeldman6509 We haven't broken it yet, but we are careful. There are two points of fragility with the One X. The lenses bulge out on each side, so if you drop it one of the lenses will likely be the point of impact. The other point is that leaving it on the stick when you aren't using it could result in snapping the threaded base off. So, if you you are the type of person who drops cell phones you might need something more robust.
