Hello, thanks for the video, I installed my dot to my truck, but instead of always having it plugged into the vehicle for power, I purchased the battery pack that goes with the dot from Amazon for 35 bucks, and I also do use a separate mobile hotspot. I was unable to connect Bluetooth to my F150, so I just used the plug. Works great! Great for controlling music and books while on the move.

I work out of my car and drive a lot . My car stereo is older and I’m always at risk taking my eyes off the road. This is the simplest cost effective way for me to do it with an older car system

Very cool. I own an Amazon Echo. I use it sometimes but since I don't have Bluetooth in my trucks stereo (till I purchase a new one ) this is an excellent substitute, plus my girl love's all the game's, etc.) Thank you for the tutorial. Glad too see it worked for you. Plus, thanks for the work around in case I ran into issues. Saves me some time for researching for the answer.

I'm a Google home user but it lacks the 3.5mm jack so I reckon I'll grab one of these and pop it in the car. I'm also an android user and yeah we don't have to have the hotspot page open to connect. Did I see somewhere that you can change the wake up phrase from Alexa to Computer? Star trek car here we come ;)

I had thought about doing this on my motorcycle for the radio/Bluetooth functions via voice, but I think the phone hotspot thing would be an issue and maybe frustrating overall. Would be sweet though!

If you pair your phone with alexa does that mean you won't receive incoming phone calls through car bluetooth and it'll just ring through your phone?

Bro for bluetooth - buy 2 cheap receiver and plug it into the split into one cable ( two female to one male cable stereo ) at attach it to AUx . So one receiver to Alexa and another one for phone . So both use same input . You can hear both at the same output .

I'm going try it, I can't find the power supply that you use on on your Eco, so I ordered the power converter from Amazon to plug into my cigarette lighter port. I have AT&T unlimited wifi on my car for only $15.00 a month. I can use the wifi in my car for a variety of gadgets like my laptop etc if needed. I'm sure it's going to work fine, just not sure where I intend to store it in my Ford Fusion. I guess in my center console if it can hear my commands, which I assume it will.

You don't have to have the page open to see the iPhone wifi - the reason you couldn't see it is because you had your phones wifi connected to the Alexa setup wifi - it can't do two wifis at once.

The polk sound bar you recommend previously i purchased which is great but the remote buttons are failing. How do i get this remote replaced. The sound bar is great but not without the remote. Please help

Unfortunately I think you may have me confused with another channel because I don’t recall reviewing a sound bar or a Polk product. That being said, my advice would still be to contact the manufacturer to see if you can get the remote fixed under warranty... Cheers - Jade

I tried this and the San Diego heat screwed up the speaker. Try the Garmin Speak for about $150.00.

why can't you do that initial setup in your house with the hotspot & where the wifi shows up? then carry it out and plug it into the car. would that be possible?

You can do that but it will continue to look for the network you set it up on. You will just want to make sure you switch it to a mobile one when before driving away from your home... I hope that helps... Cheers - Jade

Brian Shay I have had some extremely hot days in my car. 100 degrees or more on one or two random days. Alexa worked flawlessly. I don't keep it in the window tho so results may vary.

If you lose internet connection as you are driving, does Alexa automatically keep trying to reconnect or will you have to turn it off and on again when you have an internet connection again?

+J Powley It doesn't automatically re-connect, you do have to go into your settings to re-connect it each time at least with an iPhone you do, although that could be different with an android. Thanks for watching!

Jennie RedRose , Im an unlimited subscription holder from amazon and it isnt truly unlimited, brand new music sometimes takes a month or more to get added and also some music comes and goes because of copyright issues...As a prime member my unlimited costs 7.99 a month, well worth having the extra million or so songs available to me and having the ability to listen to my playlists offline since i mainly listen to mine while on the harley...I love it...

you have the alexa app on your Phone!! you dont need a dot in your car!! just open the app and press the alexa button and talk!! your phone connects to blue tooth and you can still access all of the smart home features... and all of your music as well... thought about having the dot in my car but why i have the app on my phone. Now if I could just say alexa instead of ok google!

good idea, though the only viable non bothersome phone battery saving way would be to just get a hotspot and have alexa hooked up that way. car ignition on, alexa and hot spot turns on automatically, bluetooth hooks on to stereo automatically and all is well. otherwise, you will have to set up wifif hotspot everytime you get into your car, and then turn it off everytime you get off, or your phone battery is going to die quicker than fat joe finishing his jelly donut.

Umm this is kinda pointless. Other than music. Ok Google on most phones droid can do the same completely Bluetooth. Since network isn't same Alexa can't control other devices from other echoes. Like I said pointless

It’s not difficult, fairly straight forward actually. It’s just that the RU-vid presenter didn’t do his research first so all the bumps he experienced along the way were filmed. Personally, if I was to have made a video like this (which I haven’t) I’d be filming once I knew what I was doing, which would make this video about 2-3 minutes long.

Agree - new car, android auto built in but I've gotten super used to unlocking my door, turning on my lights, setting remi ders, using other alexa skills (music, games, audible) all with voice control
