This video shows the installation process of a tri-fuel conversion kit from www.uscarburetion.com. I begin by showing what comes in the box, the tools that are necessary, and the installation process. The generator in this video is a Homelite 5700 continuous running watts and 7125 surge watts. This generator can be purchased at www.homedepot.com.

Very thorough. Thanks! Too many people leave out details assuming people know what short cut they took. Your video covered everything. Working on my generator this weekend.

Good video, I used to convert Kenworth trucks to run on nat.gas/lpg. Your oil will stay clean for years and the valves will be fine as they arn't lubed with unleaded gas today. Power is very close to the same as with gas.

Steve R they use these motors on smaller standby generators using nat/lp gas no problem.

Thanks for the video. Well done. Glad to see beginning to end, with all the tools you used. The instructions that came with my kit could've been little better.

Two things you did wrong¡ There was a part that was inside the air cleaner and you put it on before you put the air cleaner. Also you did this with just a 3/8 line to the generator. This may not move enough gas to run the generator under a heavy load. There was a reason they had it set up for 3/4 line. I have worked with generator running on natural gas and under a heavy load the low gas pressure that is used to feed this the small line may not let enough gas flow to get the engine to work at full power. Thanks for the video!! It gave me some information I need. I live in South Florida and it isn't easy to keep enough gas around to power a generator when we have a storm and the power is out for anywhere from 1 to 10 days. We don't know how long it will be out. This is Jan 16 and I still have gas in cans that I need to put in my truck. I thought the power would be out longer than it was. From the storm last September. The 5550 generator I use can burn up to 10 gallons of gas a day

This is probably the best produced video of any installation on YT. Thanks for not making us sit through 3 minutes of sealant application. Also, LOL at your welcome mat in your other video. Now you need to make a video of installing a quiet muffler on this thing, maybe another for valve adjustments, and then you will be the Yamaha generator rock start. Thanks.

Hey fyi there was a silver oval bracket on the air box , you put it under the air box on the gasket, but that bracket was actually on the inside of the air box, I doubt it makes a difference but just in case . Thanks fo the video very helpful.

The one piece of info I was looking for you didn't elaborate on. How did you determine where to set the locknut on the big tee at the outlet of the regulator. That is a giant needle valve. Can't seem to find much about it.
@Captainkleen
@Captainkleen 5 лет назад
Alan DeVincentis I’m familiar with the US Carb Trifuel kit and the standard setting on the bolt and nut is 7 completed turns out from all the way in and tighten up the nut it’s a good idea to use a black marker on the bolt and turn bolt out every time you see the mark 7 complete times and that is the standard setting for 12 + HP engines.
@Rick-fn3ls
@Rick-fn3ls 8 лет назад
Thanks for the informative video. Someone asked what the setting is (if any) for the bolt in the brass tee, at the top of the regulator. Any elaboration is appreciated.
@MrPatdeeee
@MrPatdeeee Год назад
That is a VERY important question Sir? For if that adjustable bolt is not JUST right; you might even get the engine to turn on. And IF it does start; it may NOT be running as it should. So that bolt must be set at the perfect setting for the motor to be efficient. And worse: when one goes from natural Gas to Propane Gas and vice versa; that bolt almost always HAS to be adjusted and vice versa. Oh indeed. And that is why many manufacturer's will ONLY sell Dual Fuel and that means Gasoline or Propane. For the customer must change the setting; that adjuster each time from one or the either. Note: But today 2 manufacturers have "TRI Fuel". with NO need to adjust the regulator. For their engineers has set the different settings already. And that is going to be the future. For what it's worth!

I notice that at 7:31 you put the air filter retainer between the filter box and the seal gasket, rather than in the original position where it reinforces the plastic box. Why?

Yah it would have been good to seen the load block adjustment , it’s a full turn out for every horse power ( installed several already ) Then you run the generator at full load and this is the biggest mistake people is run it with less or more than rated full load , and adjust the bolt in the load block to get the best running out of you generator ( sounds smooth ) , if it’s set right , on propane you should not loose any power , if you can’t get it to run the full load , and the load block is set right ( instruction are included in the kit )your not suppling the demand regulator with enough propane/ng , natural gas requires a lot bigger line than propane ,generally speaking you will loose some power on natural gas , special note if your generator is not keeping up to the load you need to make sure you have enough fuel supply to the generator , if the engine rpm on ng or lpg is higher than gasoline , you have a air leak between the load block and the the carb , letting more air in and increasing the rpm , any engine over 20hp require a bigger sized engine regulator , another note if everything is set right and a 1 plus later the generator can’t keep up , try pushing in the little button on the back of the regulator in a little , if doing that help the generator carry the load your demand regulator is going . Us carb / motor snorkel is good but they are poor with any help from them , ( I do gas installations and small engine mechanic repair on the side so I didn’t have any issues) used Kits on mge6500 with electric start module added , plus eu3000is with electric start module , eu2000 Hope that helps , like I said the load block ( all instructions ) instructions are included in each kit , generally for that kit , I run the mge6500 and eu3000is and eu2000 , depending on my power needs , off my house/ garage propane as well as potable tank with the 12’ quick connect kit when at camp

Where did you get fittings to fit the inlet of the regulator, Home Depot, Lowes didn't any fittings other than brass pipe that big ?

I was kind of amazed that nobody has asked the real question. Why did you put the regulator directly in front of the muffler? I would not want to have it anywhere near the hottest part of the generator's engine. Surely the instructions must have mentioned that little piece of info. Has it blown up yet?

No he didn't. The exhaust is off to the left. The box that says OHV on it is the valve cover. this is an overhead valve engine.
@richardcranium8651
@richardcranium8651 6 лет назад
heat from the exhaust would actually help vaporize the propane from liquid to a vapor what you want for the engine to burn it.

Then you have to move the regulator to adjust the valves, arrggghhhh , I wanted to hear it run! Should have watched TV instead.

You did a great job in installing. However, you didn't show us the most important thing. That was to adjust that "bolt and nut" at the top of the Regulator. Whenever you use Natural Gas versus Propane Gas. Because their pressure's has to be JUST right. And you can hear that when the engine is on. And.. That is VERY important to get the best "efficiency" out of each "gas". Worse: if the adjustable bolt and nut is near working; you might not even start the engine at all. Oh indeed. For what it's worth, but NO disrespect toward you atoll kind Sir.

I am puzzled about the ability of the motor to adjust to changes in load. With gasoline the butterfly opens more when the governor calls for more fuel to maintain the correct RPM's. Both gas and air are increased at the same time and the air/fuel ratio is maintained. I am guessing that with the propane conversion, when the governor calls for an increase in RPM's due to increased load only the air flow will increase and no increase in fuel will mean the engine will either slow down or quit all together. Is this a problem?
@barbarahoward3315

I had a problem installing a kit similar to this whit the adapter between carb and air filter, problem is the adapter chokes the airflow , so when trying to run gas it couldn't handle a constant load because I couldn't get the required airflow. so I bought a replacement trifuel carburetor for 50$ ( while using the rest of the parts from this kit) works great
@capman911
@capman911 7 лет назад
Inside of the regulator that he mounted on the side of the generator is a diaphragm. When the engine requires more fuel or propane the regulator's diaphragm opens up more to deliver more gas. Plus the little valve he mounted on top of the regulator helps adjust the airflow to the carburetor with the air coming in from the air filter. When the generator slows down and the engine requires more fuel the regulator will adjust for the amount needed.

If you got the tri fuel carb why would you need parts from this kit? My tri fuel carb didn't need any extra parts. I hooked my own quick connect hose on to it. In my opinion the kit used in this video is not good compared to the tri fuel carbs that are out there. In the amount of time it took him (4 minutes) to inventory his parts my conversion with the tri fuel carb was complete. At least he didn't have to cut his frame like many others have experienced when using this kit.

Apparently you purchased a tri-fuel carb. This kit he used allows you to convert your standard carb to use tri-fuel. May I ask how much your tri-fuel carb cost you or even where you purchased it. I have been wanting to convert my Generator over but doing so without a kit but with an actual tri-fuel carburetor. And your right the kit is not as good as the carb you purchased and this is why I have been waiting to convert mine over. A few years ago I saw some one advertise a tri-fuel carburetor but I havn't been able to find it sense. As for the inventory I think he was showing everyone what comes with the kit he purchased so they would know what to expect. Thank You

I got mine off of Ebay. Go to the ebay main page and do a search "dual fuel carburetor". I have a small 3.6KW gen and it cost $39 with free shipping. The price will be higher for larger engines. It will help if you know the size of your engine to get the correct carb. For example, I have a 208 cc engine so it is a "170F". I am very happy with this carb even though I haven't tested with NG. I'm confident it will be fine on NG. On propane the engine runs great. I never even ran gasoline through it yet. The name brand I bought is Tonco. Another thing, I just did a cold start the other day for fun and I was running after 3 pulls on propane. Normal startup is 2 pulls per the instructions. 15 degrees outside that day.

1)....too much info up front. we dont' care how long it took to receive from the mail. 2) I did appreciate you speeding video up so you don't kill us from boredom! 3)You should KNOW how and what you are going TO DO before shooting the video. I don't want to learn at the same time you are learning. 4)no one cares what tools you used. We do want to know if the motor started? How long will a standard "Blue Rhino" tank of propane last?

You make a very good point Richard... Natural gas gives you less BTU's than propane... A generator 'should' be used between 50 and 60% of it's capacity under 'normal' use... to extend it's life. Trying to run one at close to or at 100% capacity, is a sure way to cut it's lifetime short.
