Hey everyone, I appreciate all the feedback and critique. So contrary to what many believe, the jamb doesn't necessarily need replaced. It can be filled. I filled it because it saved the customer about $250+ on a new door and labor. I'll see if I can find a video of it that I made. To fix the jamb, I used a piece of wood of similar size and Bondo All Purpose Putty (I recommend using googles, mask and gloves). I used a finish nailer to secure it, followed by the all purpose putty which was later carefully sanded. @Fred R. I believed I used a M-D 36-in x 5.625-in Aluminum/Wood Door Threshold (Install with Screws) Item #7295 Model #78600 Hopefully this helps.

I forgot to mention the concrete. I don't mean to cause a misunderstanding, the concrete was more difficult to work with than other thresholds that I've done. However, with this scenario I didn't feel like it was necessary pour more, in order to, increase the stability of the threshold.

If those are carpenter ants, you want to get an exterminator out there. They can do massive damage.

I may be wrong here, but didn't you install those press in nuts on the wrong side of the strip of wood? Shouldn't they have been installed from underneath? Seems to me that by tightening down on the screws would pull them out.
@dreamer1928
@dreamer1928 Год назад
Yes. I literally came to the comments just to see how far down the list before someone said it. Also, when he took the threshold off to put the screw on the left side because it was loose and rattled.....why not go ahead and put a screw on the right side also. He also didn't put any sealant under the threshold.

@@dreamer1928I came to the comments for the same thing right before I installed one of these thresholds. The home Depot video shows it where he does it on the bottom too.

you are correct. however instructions show nuts installed from top side. I have contacted MD buliding products about their product. In the package you get a poor written instructions. However, lowes has a better instructions C/O MD building products. The home owner or handyman / contractor doesn't have time for games in the field.

What's the appropriate alternative in a case where one can't drill down to secure? My back door threshold disintegrated after 35yrs of sitting on a raised concrete block from garage to back deck. Step up about 4" to concrete/threshold, then just enough space for threshold piece, then the concrete goes back down. This makes drilling into this narrow section risky. Don't want a crack problem.

Liquid nails.

You should filled that cavity with some cement. Also, replace your rotted out brick molding. Oh, and caulk around all edges.

So, the first question you and the owner should ask is, why are there ants?

What is the name of the connecters you hammered into the concrete?

I'd fill that space with epoxy concrete compound.
@dolfinwriter5389

After filling the gap under the threshold with epoxy concrete or some kind of self-leveling concrete, I would have run 2-3 heavy beads of caulking before placing the new threshold to keep the ants out and stop air leakage that will cause heat and AC to work harder.

at 3m55sec what is it that you are holding and screwing into the threshold what is that piece of wood/called?

I call it an adjustable sill cap. I've heard people refer to it as a sill insert or even just a sill. Hopefully that helps.

@@bryanhartsock111 Thank you for the info reply. In my opinion Alternatives are good to have. Especially if the client doesn’t have $! So Bryan to all your nay sayers, you people should take everything you see and hear as a learning experience not a chance to “up charge “ someone that may just need a little help fixing something. And really for the “tool expert comment” I’m embarrassed for you! “Know your tools dude” Thanks again Bryan.

Why not replace the whole door the wood looks kinda rotted
@john200715

All the door frames sold in the U.S. must be manufactured in China. I just replaced mine, and its only 12 years old. They shouldn't rot that soon, its been primed and painted every 3 years.

@@joepierson3859instead of making a stupid comment, think about it first. Thats a $400 door that you’re putting a $75 bandaid on. Newer door frames are pvc and will not rot.

Bro, did you just use an angle grinder with a masonry blade to cut metal?, on your knee with out the handle? Wtf. You should delete this video before some kills or hurts someone following you directions.

It’s not an angle grinder. I call it a vibration saw but that’s just a nick name. It’s the same type of saw doctors use to cut cast off patients.

@J HaNG hey dummy. The video has been edited since my comment. Can't you see the angle grinder on the left side in the bag. If you can't see it then follow the orange cord behind him! Why do you need a cord for a battery powered oscillating tool? Watch your mouth before your speak! Now go bury you head in the sand.

Hack job. Don’t copy this guy… like other commenter stated, should have fixed the rot. If customer doesn’t have the money or didn’t want to, fine… but in the video, he says there’s bad concrete under threshold and that’s why it’s not fitting well. No job should be done without fixing the issue you’re dealing with first. Hack job of a guy.
