Thanks cap. I really appreciate that, is is a economical way to have air conditioning on a boat and i wanted to share it with my viewer, thanks for your complaints 👍👍👍
Great video! You have a natural way of talking and working that translates very well to the viewer. Everybody should make their videos like this. Very helpful information! Thank you sir!
That's a nice job as far as workmanship. The only problem I see is strictly thermodynamics. I also installed a window AC in my boat, but put it as high up as possible. The reason is cool air will descend to the floor; hot air will always rise. So I put my unit high in the cabin to capture the hot air. Next, I will say your design is clever as you did not have to change any of the real structure of the boat. In my design I had to cut a square hole and build my own box to hold the unit. With climate change it's best to make sure your design captures as much heat as possible, nevertheless, good job!
Awesome, captain, and you did also a great job by putting it higher. But in my case I put a little plexy.Glass clear pointing to The roof end and future videos You will see the scoop I built. Which circulates the air all the way to the roof and brings the hot air down.
Muchas gracias capitan y gracias por ser parte de mi cannal. Yo tenia una casa en Moca pr Me encantava pasar tiempo alli, lo estraño, saludos y un abrazo cap.
@@OutOnTheReef came across your vidi after watching another where this fella just mounted a similar unit under a hinged table in a sailboat, and claimed it worked very well... hold up says I, where's the energy/heat exchange, and condensation handling? Love it that you considered so many variables without violating the craft, and the water to drink if needed, or maybe add to batteries...
Awesome Captain did you use a 350 CFM blower or you use anything different? And do you have a video that you uploaded RU-vid so I can look at it don't be awesome
I purchase the ac infinity 8 inches and a 5000 btu ac did exactly what you did .i will make a video and send it over also i install my honda 2200 genetator with 2 t4 ac infinity blowers in close no noise gives me power fir the conplete boat .thank you for the ideas bro a big fan
@@ozzy0869 awesome work buddy I'm glad you did it and it works and imagine how much money you saved by not going with a very expensive Marine air conditioner I already have mine for two years and it looks brand new still because no salt water goes inside the air conditioner. And thank you for being an awesome view of my channel captain hey let me know when you get that video going I would like to see it, navigate safe cap 😉👍👍🏝
Captain, this is really great. Was thinking of doing the same type of thing on my 1975 28 foot Luhrs. Just wondering what size unit I would probably need. Thanks.
Awesome captain what you wanna do is calculate the square footage you have and that way you know what size of air conditioner you need captain And always remember a little bigger will be better since boats don't have a great installation
has it done well taking a beating from the ride? We've bought window AC for small needs a work and they seem to last no more then a year with these the current quality of such things.
just found your channel and have really enjoyed the content. I followed the links for the AC and generator but Amazon says they may not be available again. Any product updates that you would suggest to take their place?
Hello Anthony and not at all I love my window AC is very economical and placed away from the elements And the best part only $145 vs a top unit over a $1200
I have thought about doing the same thing but just didn't think it would get enough air. How is it working long term and have you had a chance to really give it a test? I did install a portable air conditioner and added a 2nd hose to cool the condenser so that it does not suck out the cool air as single hose portables do. It works great, but it's hard to compete with the effeciency of a window unit. I also had to add a duct fan because the condenser was getting too hot and shutting off. The portables make a lot of water, which goes into my holding tank as you suggested.
I placed the link on the description below about the exhaust fan I use it has 351 CFM and if you look at my channel my recent trip to the Bahamas I use it for 3 nights straight using the air-conditioning and never gave me no problem but you do have to use it an exhaust fan that has a lot of power to suck all that hot air, because if you don't the compressor would get high pressure and it will shut off or you will not get the best efficiency. Portable air conditioners suck a lot of your good cold air from your cabin so it's not efficient
@@OutOnTheReef You are right, they SUCK out the cold air to cool the condenser as soon as it cools... very bad, they should be banned! Mine doesn't now because I isolated the condenser coils with a separate hose, but still for the BTU's window units are more efficient. I might consider your set up when mine dies..... or before lol.
Saludos Mario perdona no tengo el tiempo disponible, y esta installacion me to mo mas de 3 dias y mucho ingieneria para acerlo travajar ,persona amigo☹
Yes I run it with a generator but the reason I have two hoses is one is the intake and the other one is the exhaust for the hot air because if you don't do that you going to be taking out the cold air from the cabin to cool the exhaust and you don't want that
Hi Cap. Im thinking of installing the same on my boat but the cabin a little bit bigger. 30 ft walkaround boat. How many btu's do you think I will. I was thinking either 8,000 or 10,000?
Yes the bigger that you can get the better and if your generator can handle it and since this boats are not in well insulated during the day the bigger the btu the better at nighttime my 6000btu is freezing during the day it works a little harder so if you have extra BTUs you work better let me know if you have any questions cap
Capt. I was showing a friend of mine your video and he asked why you chose to use a window ac as apposed to a unit that would be more geared to mounting on a boats hatch or roof of pilot house.
The most important part is is out of the way all the saltwater so last longer and second is $140 unit compared to $1,000 unit or $2,000 unit and if this AC breaks after 45 years it only costs me $140 to replace very simple to do so the most important is the looks and cost and it does the job
I watched this video awhile back, and a lot of attention to detail here. I assume this AC works as you expected, given that you do AC professionally, but I was wondering, would it have been possible to install a true marine AC on your boat? I really don’t know much about the components of this type AC, but I assume one would require more room in the bilge area?
Yes it will require more room and the cost of it could come out to almost $1,800 compared to a $150 window AC plus using a marine air there's water pumping involved
@@OutOnTheReef I see, well you made the right choice then. I think another viewer had a good idea to spend another $150 for an identical AC, that way if yours dies, the other replacement will be plug n play, cause the manufacturers do change models frequently. Thanks for the reply Cap. Carry on. Love this channel. 👍
@@melodymakermark yes I do have another one in my garage standing by and yes they do change the boxes shape so that's why I got one right away and thank you for the awesome suggestion captain
@@melodymakermark LOL I'll try my best but yes that will be getting out of hand but I will always try to do my best in the answer as many as possible because that's important to me👍👍👍
Hello, I don’t see the links for the vents at the end of the video, if possible could you send me the links. I need the one that vents on the cabin. Thanks
Those are very easy those are the ones home depot sales for the events for the dryer You can find them on your local hardware Lowe's or home depot that's where I got mine
I am enjoying your videos captain! When you say that you run the AC when you sleep in the night, do you keep your generator running while you sleep? Which generator is this? a Honda? Thanks.
thanks so much for being part of the channel and yes i run the generator all night and the brand is westinghouse i think the ling of the exact one i use in the description below is great because to run it is only about 2 gallons for the entire day used and i have a carbon monoxide alarm on boat my cabin for safety👍⚓
@@OutOnTheReef Thank you Captain! I did see a link for the AC (no longer available) but i didn't see the link for the Generator, would love to see it. Thank you.
@@makingcookingfixing check it out is the 4th link in the description below this one is the one im currently using right now is better power, hope it helps cap.
@@OutOnTheReef it’s enough or could you have used a smaller unit seems your outlet temp was a little high at 80f ambient I’m used to seeing condenser temps around 110 have you checked FLA
@@OutOnTheReef i was trying to tell this guy, I found the other video. this guy must be out late at night on some acid trip. the other video is great btw
