DO NOT SET TILE LIKE THIS, IF YOUR TILE GUY SETS TILE LIKE THIS FIRE HIM IMMEDIATELY!! It’s easy to do a hack job, hire a professional, pools require a mortar bed that’s called a “ brown coat” this makes the the beam straight and plum ! Tile in wet areas require a thin coat of thinset with 90% or more coverage. TOTAL HACK JOB
I can show you hundreds of pools 20+ years old using this method. A good grout job and waterproofing underpayment is all that is necessary. Contractors require different standards and I’m going by what is required and done by numerous contractors in my area, all very reputable. We use a brown coat and notch for glass tile or mat back, but 6x6 is the good old “dalop”my friend. Subscribe to keep getting triggered!
@@maxallore hi. Why the very first tile you layer didn’t seem like you pressed on it like the others ones. In the first time you was able to see voided corners
So how would you go about tiling a free form pool with this method? I get that straight pools can and should definitely be tiled this way with 6x6. That’s how guys in Cali do it. But free form pools are a different animal and unfortunately -unless you have a better idea - puttying the backs is the only way to realistically do it.
Dude man I was with ya till ya started putting one big spot in the middle of the tile. I’m not gonna jump all over you like everyone else has but you gotta at least scratch the entire back of the tile with thinset and lightly butter all four sides the length of the tile and use mud like marble set if it needs built out any. It’s a lot faster then cleaning all that thinset outta the grout joints is wasting it making a mess and slowing you down
Brotha i just want you to know this is exceptionally the best video on how to level your waterline and just everything you explain is pure perfection! Some of the comments on installing the tile, well theres gonna be haters and i totally agree that for the 6x6 tiles thats one way to do it. Ive watched so many vids and asked so many questions on websight and forums to figure out how to do this and I keep coming back to this video and it just makes sense. Thank you for making it!!
I always start with either pouring the coping or setting the coping first. After the coping we browncoat the wall to make it straight then waterproof/install slip sheet below that coping then tile. Why do you tile first?
Thank you for the reply to my comment, I do advice to take some classes and take ITS verification courses and read some of the CTIOA reports. "Unfortunately, most installers today receive on-the-job training and therefore haven’t had an opportunity to learn industry standards from the experts who developed them. If the installers do not know the standards, then how can they avoid those potential problems?"
Thanks for the Video... do you have a favorite tile blade for your grinder?? Those miters look cool but it would take me forever with what I use. Thanks for putting yourself out there... forget the trolls!
Thx for doing the video. Is there a special thinset or additive that you add to regular thinset? Thinset/grout … Lowes or Home Depot? Where does one get the thinset & grout? I wish to re-tile my pool.
Tile gets full coverage on the back, after grout and motor. All Voids are filled with with grout between the tiles and underneath, plus a top motor bed that covers 3/8” and down in-between. We have been doing pool tile in fl for many years 30+ with this method and tiles do not just fall off. Thanks for the comments and views!
Nice work man. Good to see someone handling it all by themselves. Now a days pool masons /tile guys won’t do anything unless they have a full crew to help them. 👍
Great video. I have done a lot of tiling inside but never around a pool. As there are many different thin sets, any special thin set you use. Type not brand necessarily. TIA
Looks like a Shotcrete shell…Wet gunned with a concrete pump, and a compressor.Stronger that gunite, and the plaster/pebble bonds better to Shotcrete vs gunite
When I apply the thinset and set the tile, I push in until the thinset almost comes out the grout line. 90% of the tile is covered on the back once it’s set, and the top gets a brown coat or concrete before deck is installed.
Guarantee that spa came out all fcked up😂 because exactly how are you gona cover the sides now with the front wall. Do you just install tile right over those fcuked up walls too ?? No gettin them leveled😂 i wonder how you install coping... This might of beeen your first and last pool til job😂😂😂
My builder did it this way, 8 months later I am redoing it totally different. the gaps behind the tile are just not professional. bedding them in mortar seals the gunite which otherwise will leak.
Completely wrong man! How does this guy sleep at night? Never do dollops of Thinset, do a burn in coat on the wall notch the Thinset with a notch trowel, and back butter the tile!
Absolutely wrong way to install tilen your work keeps me in business. We call your kind hacks in the business. The good Ole pancake method. That entire pool will be ate up with effervescence in no time and that time will be falling off in a few years
