QA1 is just killin' it these days. That kit is big news for the Ford guys, prior to that all we had were dropped I beams and the excellent but too wide Crown Vic setup.
I really enjoyed your video on the QA1 front suspension install. Can’t wait to see what you have in store for the rear suspension of the truck. thanks for sharing.
Thanks for your video. I wasn't aware that a bolt-on kit for these trucks existed! I agree this build is so much better than what ford did back in the day. Coyote next?
Thank you for the video awesome this is on my wish list I'm not spending another Penny on any drop beam components . I love the fact that there's no welding required and it's just a bolt-on kit I don't have to go to the junkyard and find a donor crown Vic drag all kinds of greasy worn out parts home clean them all up and risk my life on my amateur welds or pay somebody to go weld it right. I wish I can add it to cart right now but it's definitely on my favorites list
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching and Yes- I'm doing the rear. There is no QA1 kit for the 73-79 F series trucks. So I am adapting a 67-72 QA1 kit to fit this truck. Welding WILL be required. Stay tuned!
Did you go this way? Planning a chassis build for my ‘81 f100 to body swap onto. Has a tired 302, tired stock suspension, tired trans, but the sweetest body in Patina-ville.
Pretty slick. I'm looking for something like this for my '59 f100. I honestly don't understand why everyone wants to replace the twin I-beam setup though. Just putting in fresh springs, struts and bearing components really freshens up the ride. I'm actually thinking about using someone's cast aside twin I-beam setup on my truck.
Your videos have done wonders for me thank you so much quick question did you have to flip your coilover shocks in the front? The manual that I have is telling me to have the adjustment knob on top facing forward but I installed it exactly the way you have it on your video.
Great job. So, here's my question. I have a 1978 2WD F150, single cab/long bed. Love this suspension package but want to actually raise front ride height about two inches over stock so its even with the back. Definitely don't want to lower the vehicle at all. Can you make this happen with the QA1 suspension? What height are you now at versus original?
This dropped the whole truck about 4 inches. But- if you want to keep the center of gravity higher than stock, there's no point in going for all this expensive QA1 stuff. Get some taller front springs in your setup, some really good shocks, rebuild everything and you'll save a ton of time and money. QA1 stuff is for street/race car handling. Thanks for watching!
Now I wonder if I could put this on a 60. That Crown Vic mod is a great idea, especially with the 4.6 liter but I just dont think I am that good. This though - well it looks like maybe I could do it.,
I don't think I heard you say but are those the regular spindles or the drop spindles? I'm ordering my kit soon but want a slammed static ride and was just curious as to which spindles you are using. Thanks for the great video!
Any link for brake kit would be very appreciated because my whole truck is on hold bc I can't find the 78-81 camaro kit that will work for this truck. Please🙏🙏🙏
It's 79-81 camaro. Dozens of options available. I think I used these, but I'm not 100% sure www.summitracing.com/parts/wil-140-10493-dr/make/chevrolet/model/camaro/submodel/z28/year/1979
The front frame should be the same, except for the engine cradles, because of engine choices from the original build sheet. It shouldn't matter- you're chopping all that out anyway. So yeah- it'll work. :) Thanks for watching!
Yes, Borgeson makes a rag joint eliminator intermediate shaft that can be adapted to the Mustang II rack. I didn't use it on this one but I use them now. THX 4 Watching!
@@GrenadeMotorsports Thanks for the rag joint eliminator tip, my buddy once had his rag joint screw come loose, good thing he was just taking off an intersection.
Did you notice a big decrease in turning radius with your kit? I just got the steering section installed and it looks like it’s much less than the factory setup.
Great video, I’m hoping to install this QA1 setup on my 69 F100, my question is how does this hook up to the steering column/power steering pump? Are you able to use the original column and pump? Or do a Saginaw swap or something?
Actually- it uses a 79-94 Mustang rack- I'm filming the QA1 rear end install soon and I'll be sure to include a segment on the steering connection. It's not bad at all.
Awesome video! I have set my decision on the QA1 kit but am fighting finding “compatible” hub/brake assemblies for the “f-body” spindles! Did you decide to use alternative spindles?
Thanks for watching- The hubs and brake assemblies that I have on there now- they're for a 79-81 Camaro and they work perfectly because the QA1 front spindles are exactly molded from original GM parts. All you do is chop off the caliper ears from the cast iron spindle and the Wilwood kits for the 79-81 camaro bolts right up. It'll be in the next video sometime next month.
That’s what I was informed of!! Were you able to find a kit that retained the factory 5x5.5 bolt pattern and stock wheel clearance? Thank you for the help!
I'm using the 67-72 kit. It's not a bolt on. I'm modifying the frame slightly and it'll all fit. Basically you make the QA1 side brackets fit the 73-79 frame . It's not that tough if you can weld. I'll get the video filmed eventually though.
QA1 is top notch stuff but I'm disappointed that all the hardware appears to be grade 5. The first thing I do is buy all grade 8. It would be nice if QA1 made a set up with heims instead of urethane bushings for even more adjustability.
Multi millions of dollars worth of R&D showed that the hardware they chose is more than sufficient based on shear, tension & compression loads. One can always go with overkill but why spend the money when it's never going to be an F1 car. Thanks for watching!
Do I have to remove the engine? Can I get away with just jacking it up a bit? Will the kit lower the trucks height? Thanks in advance to anyone with some insight.
It's 20x harder if you leave the engine in. Best way is take it out. They come out in 2hrs and you can clean everything up while you're at it. I wouldn't attempt something like this expensive suspension kit, all those rivets etc without pulling the motor & trans. Yes, this suspension kit lowers the truck. The coil overs are dual adjustable so you can set ride height where you want it. Thanks for watching!
@@GrenadeMotorsports Thank you so much!!! Your totally right, whenever I work on the car I remove everything that’s in the way, this time shouldn’t be any different. I’m doing this for my best bud, it has a 73 f100 with a crown vic engine. He doesn’t like the lowering part but thats the trade off for a modern suspension. Thanks again for making this video, its the best I’ve found!!
Anything is possible but I don't think this makes sense for the 95+ F150 2wd. As I understand it- it's already a coil over design and you could use high end coil overs and a bigger sway bar to achieve virtually the same thing. Thanks for watching!
@@GrenadeMotorsports That's my luck , watched a video using 73-79 spindle rotors and calipers swapped to a 66 f100 (my project). Haven't started yet just making plans.
It's all Ford except the spindles and brake calipers. Because- they (GM camaro brakes) had the most powerful compact braking system of the easily duplicatable era. Thanks for watching!
