Great job. I have been looking into getting an autopilot also. You made the installation look a lot easier than I thought it would be. Thanks for the step by step instructions! Looking forward to Part 2.
Wow, just what I was looking for in an autopilot video. Detailed and nice work! I've done Raymarine Nmea 2k installations so that part was easy to follow for me. The hydraulic part was the big mystery for me. Thanks!
Anytime captain and yes I looked at other videos and RU-vid and they were horrible and I say to myself I need to do one that explains it better step by step that's why I got my inspiration from all the bad videos I saw LOL thanks for watching
just finished up install after a two day event... I took my time and followed your install... Thank You for the help... So far its working perfectly in the yard... Now for the real test... Water bound tomorrow... now just waiting on connector wire for the axiom to the auto pilot...
@@OutOnTheReef hello I have helmet with 4 hoses attached and one hole plugged marked E and the rest marked P T R L. . I KNOW FOR THE PUMP CONNECTION I NEED TO USE R AND L BUT WHICH ONE I NEED TO CONNECT BACK TO THE PUMP?
Great Job Cap’n! All the work and installs you do on your boat look clean and look factory or better then factory! Great for boat value and fire prevention.
every electrical device in your boat is great for comfort and maneuverability but is really important to use a power block with fuses for protection and safe, great project !!!
This is awesome. Thank you so much. I have everything Raymarine. Hopefully this works good for my boat. Definitely feel better about doing the install on my own. ⭐️🙏
Anytime and yes you could do it especially better that you have everything rain will work more adequate adequate when you have a different type of of equipment that will work the same thanks for watching any questions please let me know
Amazing installation Captain...best installation instruction I ever seem...looking forward your calibration video...you are a great teacher too with clear instructions and down to earth explanations...excellent video
If you buy a boat like mine just make sure it's not crooked from Factory and if you want to find more information about that check out my video call why do I call my beautiful pilothouse a crooked pilothouse
Been waiting for this, nice clean installation! I have the same autopilot on my 37 Gulfstar. You will love it, you get to relax or make a sandwich while cruising. Lol
16:05 I simply unscrewed the 2 90 degree fittings from the steering helm and put them on the pump. The Sitex kit comes with a straight that I used for the return reservoir. No need to get 3 fittings..
Nice to know EV100 is NOW good for Hydraulic Ram Capacity: 3.1-9cu. (aka 50cc-150cc). A couple years ago when I bought it. EV100 is only good for up to Ram capacity of 50 cc to 100 cc. My Baystar Hydraulic steering is 118 cc, so I had to return the EV100 kit to West Marine. What a bummer! but kudos to Raymarine for making it bigger.
Yes it's made for boats heavier than mine so it does work I used it and had no problems with it. If you go to the website L tell you the capacity of the new pumps systems. Thank you for watching
I’ve watched all of your videos and I’ve concluded, you’re the best DIY boat rigger I’ve ever seen. I wish I knew you to help me with my rigging projects. I’m really curious as to what your do for a living.
Thank you Cap. Im sure you can do it too Thank you for being a loyal viewer of my channel and for the coming of the best DIY I really appreciate it captain
How do you like this autopilot cap?? Don't have the funds for this item yet but I'm so glad you posted up a video to help us get an idea of how to do it ourselves. Appreciate you cap! Saving us a lot of money, and making boating more fun
my pleasure Peter is awesome that here at RU-vid we all learn from each other ,i love the autopilot sometimes it loses the heading but it goes away quick i don't know why that happens cap. but i like it is awesome and affordable. thanks for watching cap.
A small but important tip for anyone who may have to work on anything in the future; ALWAYS cut the ends off of zip/cable ties with a pair of flush cutters not regular wire cutters.. Regular cutters turn the end of the cable tie into a extremely sharp point that will rip your or possibly my arms up when you need to get back into the area and do work. The flush cutters make a nice flush cut with no sharp edges. Plenty of cheap options for flush cutters on Amazon as well as better brands for a bit more money...👍👍😉
Best video I’ve seen so far for the hydraulic portion of the install. Do you have a parts list anywhere handy? EDIT: I see it in the description. Thanks!
Install a MOB+. Having a autopilot will inherently free you up moving about the vessel while underway. Last thing you want to do is watch your boat drive off if you happen to fall over. I’ve been fishing offshore since I was a child. It happens quicker than you think. I’ve installed on all my boats. Be safe. Looks good. Maybe we’ll see you up around Destin Fl one day 👍🏻
Thank you Captain for the recommendation of the mob I'm already looking into it to have it installed in the near future it is a very needed item especially when you're by yourself moving around the cabin and deck of the boat thank you for looking out for me and yes maybe one day we'll see you at Destin Florida. Navigate safe captain
Out On The Reef : I put mine right below the Lowrance unit and use the FOB in the wrist band - like a watch. You can see the head unit has a small footprint here below the Lowrance unit. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5_IN4WLkBtk.html
Thank you cap.👍Is running awesome now pairing it to the Garmin it works 95% of the time perfect but sometimes it's a little harder to Link but then again you can use the autopilot for Raymarine straight without using the chart plotter. I'm very happy with it the only thing I really don't like about Raymarine is their customer service is awful😬
Great job !! I have the exact boat and want to put the same auto pilot in. One question ., the 3 fittings that you had to purchase for the drive pump. what size and where can I get them. also how many liters of hydro fluid did you use
What I did was that I took the pump in the fittings that came with to a hydraulic hose supply store and they have experience there with pipe fittings and they can provide you the pipe fittings right there I don't remember the size of it but they really can help you and give you some great advice remember that not to over tighten the pipe fitting because you will break the pump you can only make few turns with it and I did not need a lot of the hydraulic fluid because I did not let it leak all over the place so it's very careful with it so I only need it like half a quart. Hope this helps you on your new installation if I can help in any of the wait let me know.👍👍⚓
Bold move making a permanent install worth the tape before testing! I think I would have used small bits of tape rather than the large in case I had to swap it out. Great install though.
@@papaspals you'll like it the installation is not that hard it's just time consuming and you will save more than $1,000 on the installation by doing it yourself and you know it's done right when you do it yourself. If you do decide to put one on your boat please use my link in the description below and that way I'll get a little commission out of it and that really helps the making of this video captain I will appreciate that. And I also put the description of the hydraulic hoses I use
Lots of work to get that installed. The filler coupling on your dash where you fill the oil to was that a factory filler or did you have to install that too?
Thx for this great video. I have a question about the fittings that go into the pump. The pump has the British BSP standards, but your hydraulic steering is the American NPT standard. Are the pump fittings BSP male/ NPT female?
I took the pump to a hydraulic shop and they gave me great suggestions of what type of fittings they told me pipe fitted so for your different system you may want to go to a specialist and ask them in your area because that's exactly what really helped me
Thanks for this video, great job. I bought a 22 foot Lund and would love to put one of these on it. Do you know if a 60 inch shaft would work? Or would l need a 72? The 60 inch shaft calls for two batteries were the 72 calls for three. Thoughts? Thanks for your time.
I have not done research on that but the cables are somewhat compatible I just need to buy an adapter cable to see how they work or I'mma try to call Garmin because Raymarine was not very helpful
Did you have poly tubes from motor cylinder to helm? I do. I also have BayStar cylinder and BayStar helm. I called Sea Solutions/Teleflex to get correct tube kit. They said I need their special hoses. I have not had one problem in the past and I am adding a EV-100. Any thoughts? Did you have issues with tubing? Thanks
Hello- thanks for posting the vid. I'm installing the exact system and have only 1 question: How far is your EV1 from the ACU? I've read that the electric output leads to the hydraulic pump will create quite a bit of magnetic field, [as any similar size motor would] but it looks like yours is at least 24" separation.
So I think I’ve seen a video where you replaced the raymarine with a garmin what was the reason I had an older Raymarine sport pilot had nothing but trouble with it finally gave up on it
Same here cap. Raymarine units are terrible and costumer service too, but i had my Garmin for 3 years already and love it cap. I had the pump leak a little and Garmin replaced it with no problems, great customer service 👍👍⚓️
If you could buy a new boat right now do you have a specific make and model in mind? I know you’ve done a ton of work to the crooked pilot house but I’m curious with the amount of research you do what kind would you pick?
I have not thought about any other company since I've been so involved on equipment my boat with all my necessities, the right now I just think about how am I going to improve my crooked Pilot House
And now your the proud owner of a crooked self pilot boat !!! Gooood 2 gooo CAP !!!! Hit the water and feed some coordinates into it and see whats up. 👌👌👌👌👍👍👍👍
Very good, I am in the market for an autopilot and wanted to see what I was getting into, now I have an idea. I noticed in another video you changed the pump to a garmin brand, was there a specific reason and I assume you had no compatibility issues with Raymarine and Garmin on the pump exchange?
The antenna under the helm is for the Marine kill switch, is that little red thing that I carry on my vet if I fall overboard it will shut off the engine automatically and if you want to find out more information about it I have to link in the description below Captain is an awesome safety device,👍👍⚓
Great job with the install.. What size fuse did you use between the acu and terminal block? I'm putting the same system in and can't determine what size from the manual.
@@OutOnTheReef thanks captain! I'm new to this stuff, and it's frustrating that the manual isn't crystal clear on what's needed. Your video saved me many hours. Thanks again! I'm also connecting to a garmin mfd and used your links to buy the needed cables.
@@NicklausSQ Awesome Nick And yes I never found the fuse size on my manual that's why I don't know what size to use but congratulation on your installation captain
Capt, how long did it take you to do this install and would you do it all over again or would you rather pay next time? Also, what would you rate the difficulty level for this install?
If I have to do it all over again I will definitely do it myself I trust myself more than a mechanic when it comes to doing things right and the hardest part was the Hydraulics finding the hoses and fittings specially for this installation
Absolutely 100% install... Just one question... Never saw what you connected to the first white sea talk connector in the video... ? Thank You in advance...
Thank you the other 2 white connector was for the screan display and the other for the sensor. Sorry that i did no clarify that cap. Thanks for watching ⚓⚓⛵👍
Well I'm not a 100% sure but I know sailboats use this unit for their sailboats so It could be a huge possibility and to make sure a 100% call ray marine and ask him but I think you're able to captain so double check with him hope this helps
Hello. Thanks for the tips. I want to ask you if you know, if this Model of AUTOPILOT, DISENGAGE the RUDDER automatic when is in AUTO ?. and ENGAGE the Rudder if is in STAND BY?
@@brianescalanteaguilera7463 im sorry Brian i dont know buddy, call the Raymarine company they are terrible customer service but maybe they can answer that question
yes but you don't get all the features cap , you only get pin point a spot in the chart plotter and thats it, if you want more features you need both brands cap, hope this helps👍⚓
I didn’t want to be the one person who said the hole cutting was a bit primitive.it did work out fine though and you really do care about what you do,It’s very obvious. I guess that’s why that method of a thousand drill holes seemed out of character for you man...A nice little jig saw or that really bad ass Dremil might be a good acquisition for you...beyond that GOOD JOB👍🏻
@@johnm5714 you're right and I have a jigsaw but the reason I didn't use it was because the electronics around it I could not use a jigsaw but I did not want to run to the store and get something else I want to continue with the video that's why I did it that way but everything came out great and that whole imperfection is hitting under the electronic but thanks for the suggestion
Well your damn good at making due with what you have- that’s the sign of a good mechanic.and you are 100% right - can’t see it AFTER the panels installed so not a big deal
@@OutOnTheReef Yes it’s an “easy fix” for you but the fact remains that you’ve already instructed others how to do something that creates a fire hazard. Are you going to contact all of the people who’ve already endangered themselves, their passengers, and their vessel by following your bad advice that could lead to a fire??
