For those installing this onto stucco/brick: a 7/64" drill bit is WAY too small, there is no way the plastic wall anchors will fit inside of a 7/64" hole even if you try hammering it in (You'll probably crack / damage your stucco) I found using a 5/32" drill bit to make a hole allows for the plastic anchors to go in snug and then when you screw the base plate in with the included crews it expands the anchors enough to REALLY secure the base plate allowing you to finish the rest of the install.
I don’t think I like the magnetic mount design. The idea of me paying $170 for a device that someone can just grab and walk off with is not warming. Yes, it may not be useful for them if they can’t activate it but neither would it be for me.
From the photo of the thumbnail it has the threaded mount hole for a mount. I know you can get universal mounts at best buy for these. Have some from my Arlo as well I'll be using. I'm going to get one this weekend to be sure I'm actually seeing it right. I took a screenshot of the page and zoomed in. Just weird they don't advertise it.
@simplisafe With release of this outdoor camera, I’d like to see an upgrade to the app that allows alerts to be ignored on a customizable schedule set by the user. Any chance of that happening? Also, do you intend to develop a wireless indoor camera?
to those worried about someone snatching the camera, the permanant mount is available now (i'm about to install mine) i requested it when i ordered the system over the phone. i'm about to install it now and i guess i'll update this comment if anything catastrophic happens lol (wish me luck - this is my only day off this week and it decided to snow ahaaaaaa)
Our outdoor camera is designed to withstand all sorts of weather, from extreme snow to extreme wind. Let us know if you need any help when it comes to installation!
Thank you very much. It would be awesome if you guys could make a protective acrylic security cover for folks like me who cannot install the camera out of reach of any potential miscreants.
Your simplisafe wireless outdoor battery camera does it drop wifi connection, mine drop connection wifi all the time. Also what brand router wifi you using?
The camera is basically only usable when you want to film whats straight ahead of it. The sideways movement is limited because the magnetic mounting ball is simply too short. It would be a nice system if this thing would be a half inch longer
Simplisafe is well...SAFE. I do not regret this purchase at all. I had to buy the extender and no issues with our cameras. We have the indoor ones outside
@@yayaswa666 I am wondering the same thing. I just got my new full system. It would be so helpful if people that post would kindly answer our questions.
The black flap on the battery is confusing to me. I thought it was the safety flap that prevent the battery from being used while in the box so I tore it off. Will that affect the battery in anyway? Do I need a new battery?
i almost tore mine off too before i realized it seemed way too stubborn to be temporary XD if you can still remove the battery from the camera i think it's fine, the battery and camera won't be affected. i think the only use the flap had was to help with removing the battery for charging.
I have same concern as many. I don’t want the camera within someone’s reach where they can turn it away or know it off. I’d want to mount it 2nd floor level looking down, but still a long pole can disable the camera rendering it useless.
That's why you always need another camera watching the other camera and then recording to both local storage and cloud. Regardless how secure you think any camera is, it can all be tampered/disabled within seconds. Your best bet is to have saved footage seconds prior to damage or theft
@@nicoGZo I don't recall, I had a bunch of loose drill bits. I matched up one with the wall anchor. I just made sure it was a little smaller than the anchor. I had to get more anchors because the ones they sent cracked trying to get it in the 7/64 drilled hole.
I ran into the same issue, I found using a 5/32" drill bit to make a hole allows for the plastic anchors to go in snug and then when you screw the base plate in with the included crews it expands the anchors enough to REALLY secure the base plate allowing you to finish the rest of the install. Simplysafe needs to revise their recommendation.
so with the camera attaching magnetically - does that mean if someone had a stepladder that they could simply reach up & pluck it off the rounded base?
Hi! Thanks for reaching out to us! The magnet the Outdoor Camera sits on is a pretty strong magnet. It would take them a second or so to remove the camera, and by that time, the user would already be notified of the camera detecting motion, and be able to view the live feed. We hope this helps! Let us know if you have any questions, and we'll be glad to assist!
My SimpliSafe outdoor cameras only operated intermittently, so I purchased a couple of wifi extenders. What I'm confused about is whether the wifi extenders should be connected to my router or to the SimpliSafe base station - are the cameras connecting to the base station or the router, or both ? I would be grateful for any help with this.
Hi there Eric, Thank you for reaching out to SimpliSafe. You will need to connect your extenders to your router and then connect the cameras to the extender. Of course, if you have any other questions or need additional assistance, don't hesitate to reach out to us.
Can’t say I recommend it.. easy to install, but struggles to open always pinwheels for at least a minute before it opens the live feed, by that time whatever I was alerted to is long gone… the motion detection is flawed and has a weird delay when recording - 3.5/10
From the thumbnail, I see it does have the threaded hole for a permanent mount. They just don't advertise it???? But it looks like the same size as most of the Arlo, blink, and universal permanent mounts. So I can use my Arlo mounts I assume. Will pick one up this weekend and try and report back!!!
I think these are going to be a huge suck fest. Those batteries, like phones will start to degrade in 1-2 years and become ewaste. If you need to travel or do anything and the battery dies? how much wind is the magnet rated for? what about water + wind?
Hey there, Frank, thanks for reaching out to us here at SimpliSafe®. You can install Using the included wall anchors. We have linked instructions for you below. simplisafe.support/49pcmcL
Hi Wendy! All SimpliSafe sensors have a range of up to 800ft over open air, however the Outdoor Camera needs to remain connected to Wi-Fi. Our Outdoor Camera has 2 WiFi antennas for a more reliable connection. And while the specific distance you're able to place the camera will depend on your router and what type of interference is between it and the camera, a typical 2.4GHz Wi-Fi range is about 150ft.
Should I be removing that tab in the battery before installation? My battery keeps “dying” within a day of mounting. When I called in, I was told to remove that tab. However, it’s too tough to remove and honestly feels like it would be breaking something if I kept pulling. PLEASE HELP. I haven’t been able to use my camera since I got it (one month now) because it won’t stay alive.
Hi, Soleil! Thank you for reaching out to us! The black tab on the battery should not be removed. It can stay on the battery while inserted in the camera. If you are having issues with the battery staying charged, make sure you are using a power block (adapter) that you would normally use for an iPhone or Android. Also, make sure you are using the power cord that came with the camera. It usually takes about 5 hours for the Outdoor Camera Battery to be fully charged, and you'll know its fully charged when you see all three LED lights as solid. If you have done these steps and are still having issues, then please give us a call or send us a DM via Instagram, Facebook or Twitter!
Hi, this one actually has a motion sensor light. It uses the battery more quickly if you have it activated but it does have the capability. And, you can adjust the brightness - the highest setting is surprisingly bright.
Agreed SimpliSafe system is easy to install. It's a good monitoring system but for the poor quality of their video doorbell camera from internet connectivity standpoint. I did purchase it along with the Video Doorbell Camera but the camera goes offline (no live stream) with a message 'Disconnected from the internet' every 2-3 minutes. SimpliSafe attributed it to my poor Wi-Fi network when in fact I have 5 GHz-600 MBS speed bandwidth along with six Google Nest Wi-Fi routers. When I complained to SimpliSafe, they asked me to the split the Wi-Fi network into 2.4ghz and 5ghz since SimpliSafe doorbell camera works only with 2.4ghz bandwith (this they do NOT say anywhere). I did the split and connected the SimpliSafe doorbell camera to 2.4ghz Wi-Fi network but in vain. The camera went offline as ever before. They sent me a replacement camera which too had the same 'going offline every 2-3 minutes' issue. I repeatedly called SimpliSafe and asked for a good solution. They had the cheek to say I should move my internet router (which is about 10 feet away from the doorbell camera) closer to the doorbell camera. That was the last straw that broke the camel's back and I canceled my subscription service. While the rest of the SimpliSafe system works, the doorbell camera does not since it's outdated. Today's doorbell cameras support dual bandwith (2.4ghz and 5ghz) and SimpliSafe lags behind, thanks to their outdated technology. I am currently using the SimpliSafe doorbell camera without the video recording feature from the web interface (smart app disabled due to my monthly subscription cancelation) though the the camera goes offline every 2-3 minutes but then I am not paying $27.99 for the poor quality of the camera. I can't return the equipment since I am past the product return window.
I wish I could get this thing to connect to my Wifi...I'm on my second replacement. My wifi 6 router is right next to the basestation and the camera..5ghz mode turned off...multiple basestation and router re-boots...indoor camera, 2 entry sensors and everything else connects instantly...but the outdoor camera still won't connect so frustrating...
Been looking forward to these but I'm not sure I like the unsecured mounting. It's opento abuse by hitting it with stones or a long stick for example. Put the camera too high to avoid this and your footage isn't as good. I'd rather a fixed mounting myself. How long does the battery last?
Thanks for the feedback! We do have a Permanent Mount on the way as an accessory, if you'd prefer that. Depending on your usage, performance will differ. But we estimate a battery life of up to 3-6 months!
ANY outdoor camera should be installed 8-10 feet high, which means a ladder, which means you can't just snatch it. Truthfully, ANY outdoor camera is vulnerable - rocks, sticks, spray paint, a determined thief, etc. But you do what you can, and it's better than nothing. But I haven't had a customer yet call me and say somebody messed with their camera.
BEWARE OF THE SECURITY OF THE MOUNTING BRACKET!! Just installed an outside Simplisafe camera. One concern I had on the security of the mount. After installing the two screws in the mounting cap, I installed the domed shaped piece by turning it 1/4 turn. There was no click and it seemed very easy to remove. I then installed the camera to the mount and was in the process of "aiming it" when the whole camera can out in my hand. It had unscrewed the dome piece from the base mount. I then applied some silicone seal to the interface between the cap and the dome piece, but the silicone didn't seem to stick to the parts. I then decided to drill a hole in the middle of the dome piece for a screw. I had to drill and countersink the hole to assure the screw head didn't protrude or the magnet from the camera wouldn't be secure. I feel this is a design flaw that Simplisafe needs to address.
I know I'm responding too late at this point, but I thought the same thing about there not being a "click" when tightening the mounting base plate to the dome, you have to REALLY turn it to get that click, the base also has to be secured to the wall first before tightening the dome to the base plate.
@@G33B0 having the same issue. would you say you have to give it a good amount of force? mine you can feel a slight click but nothing i would say thats super secure. definitely not an audible click
I've gone through two replacements and they still won't connect to the 2.4GHz WiFi settings. This system is extremely irritating, I needed these for so I can go on vacation and all I get for help is the same steps you take when you're installing it. All my other sensors work and indoor cameras but these outdoor cams refuse to install.
So sorry to hear that you've been having trouble connecting to your Outdoor Camera. We strongly suggest reaching out to our Support team and asking for an escalation. There are a couple of more steps we can take to get your cameras connected. spr.ly/60523nWEE

7/64” is not the correct size I wish there was a way to find what it’s really supposed to be… 5/32 is too small and the next size up that I have is 3/16 and it’s too big

Attaching an expensive camera by magnet to it's stand and recommending that we install it no more than a few feet , 6-8 feet (the height of a grown man's outstretched arm), above the ground? Are we going out of our way to help opportunistic criminals? They don't know that they can't use the camera without the app. All they see is a nice camera that fits neatly in their pocket. Voila!
The strange ad for simply safe is so creepy. First a big guy says how it works & cops were on the way, but the next 2 scenes are even creepier. Another dude (much younger) is in a hot tub and the following scene on a bed laid out as though he is trying out for a porn scene.
First let's be clear the inventor sold out years ago! I hope everyone knows if they update equipment you'll need to buy the system all over again! I have severe case buyer's remorse! It's a horrible System that's easily thwarted. The batteries fail easily and often as does the perpetual , "Warning [name your sensor] isn't working."] Batteries need frequent replacement or recharging! A costly system that I regret everyday. Dropped a glass-SS Bot couldn't have cared less. If something goes wrong they have⭕️responsibility. C'est la vie.
Hi Marie. Thank you for reaching out to SimpliSafe. We are sorry to hear that you are having an issue with your system. Please feel free to give us a call at 800-548-9173 8a-midnight est, and we will be more than happy to assist you.
The main reason is wire runs. I work for a security company. Their are cons and pros for both hardwired and wireless. Hardwired means no battery needs to be recharged and the mount is usually better. Con is that you have to plug it in somewhere which means you have to fish the wiring (meaning holes) and if you dont fish it then you have visible wiring. Wireless cameras are wayy easier to install, however the base is usually never secure. Its all based on preference.
WRONG!! The camera DOES NOT connect to the Wifi AT ALL!! You didn't mention that the Wifi must be set to 2.4Gigahertz and not an automatic 5.0 gigahertz router or it will not wok at all.. The indoor cameras connect all the other items connect THE OUTDOOR CAMERAS DO NOT CONNECT AND CUSTOMER SERVICE JUST TELLS YOU TO RETURN THEM WITH NO SOLUTION ON HOW TO CONNECT THE CAMERAS! NONE!! You bought the thing and expected the (Its easy to install, will be working in 5 minutes) to be true. What a crock! IT DOES NOT WORK AND THE COMPANY HAS NO SOLUTION FOR IT!
Redheads in ski masks aren't breaking into people's house and you know it I have a ring camera why don't you put an accurate description of who keeps breaking into houses.
My son is a red head and he probably approves this message. Corporations are being so PC that they don't care if they cast shade on the statistically innocent. The least they could do is have the perp fully covered so as to be a mystery.
As a matter of fact, a redhead in a black ski mask broke into my mother’s house which had a ring camera. I have Simplisafe and don’t give a darn who they show breaking into houses and businesses. It’s not exclusive to race or anything else, if that’s what you are implying.
