You nailed the real advantage of Gannon's tip being a nose-down flight. I learned it from watching Ricky, and then it was reinforced by Gannon's video. You presented it well. Thanks.
Yup! I first noticed this with Ricky and worked it into my drives this year. No idea why it worked, it felt odd and almost like it would force the disc to turnover....but nope, the disc flies true and it got me to where I'm finally breaking 300ft consistently.
THIS was the best information I’ve gotten over a year watching videos of disc golf. Because I battle with astrocytoma, a terminal brain, cancer, I have to be careful from getting lightheaded, or dizzy, so I throw without the walk up. Just stand still. Before this video, I was throwing my Turses(5) about 210 feet. Now, I’m throwing it close to 300 feet and also throwing all my throws much more accurate. Great video!
That's awesome, almost a 33% increase in throwing distance. I'd be ecstatic to see those types of gains on my throws. I've been binge watching disc golf instructionals for a while now. Still waiting on that one video that "clicks". I've been playing for a while now and I still throw pretty much the same distance as when I first started......BUT......I have gotten so much more consistent with my midrange/approach shots by cleaning up my form and using discs that fit my throwing style better rather than me just mimicking what the top pros throw. Stay strong brother, God bless you 🙏
I am a big guy with shorter arms and a big belly/chest. This is completely upgrading my game. It let's me have so much more power and get the disc so much closer to my body. This is the only thing I changed and I immediately throw 50-75 ft further and more consistently. Stops rounding entirely. THANK YOU
I had to come back to comment. I was totally doing this wrong. I have been struggling with nose up throws and elbow pain. I had been setting my Hyzer throws on a hyzer angle in the reach back as 1 million videos say to do. I tried this tip today and yesterday and wow it worked. I was getting predictable nose angles and zero elbow pain. Thanks dude. I don't know if this is good advice for a beginner, but it was just what I needed to hear.
This tip was a game changer. Helped my nose angle a ton, allowing me disc down and throw putters where I used to throw mids & mids where I used to throw fairways
Holy cow this is no joke. Just spent an hour doing field work and I’ve never had the disc come out that clean that consistently. Perfect nose angle every time and I was getting an extra 2-3 mph
I've tried this independently from you recently, and Anthony, the other day and I could feel the difference in my elbow drop. The problem I had was the timing on when to turn the disc up to flat, during the swing. When I flipped it up at the wrong time (can't tell if early or late) I would accidentally anhyzer more than I normally do. But this seems like a great correction, if done right. At a minimum Gannon should be credited, if not others. But I think you and Anthony covering it gives it added context and experience, so thank you for that.
Started doing this after the Bodanza video and it helped me a ton. I have shorter arms, so it's hard to get the disc close to my chest with it flat - having the disc tilted down helped me get a smoother release and more snap.
This has helped me keep the nose down. I've been doing so for a couple months to keep my wrist from locking by just letting the disc droop in the reachback.
I've always tended to use this style for flat/anhyzer releases. It really helps you stay loose and really attack the drive. Solid video. My only take: please forgo the discs in your offhand when throwing - even just watching it hurts my shoulder haha
that's an interesting take that Gannon has. When I first started throwing 3 years ago ( age 59 ) I had a problem with the nose angle up, I solved it by throwing under a long row of trees with a very low ceiling ( 6-7 feet high ) and still held the disc flat on my reach back and follow thru. i went from throwing 150 ft. to now just reached my max distance ever as of today of 275 feet
I cannot wait to do some fieldwork this spring and try this. I mean I still play all winter long here in Minnesota so I can try it out next time I play. But "trying things out" is often times a bad idea when playing a course.
I think this also helps to keep wrist relaxed and to get a better whip effect. I myself try to keep disc flat when reaching back and it makes the wrist more tense. Gotta give this a try. 😁
Good video. In my experience from playing tournaments along with my own awful play, throwing nose up is the number 1 issue most players have when throwing.
The quintessential example of this, in my mind, is James Proctor. I've recently been practicing this exact tip. Definitely will take some time to get used to but it definitely makes sense.
I didn’t realize I was doing this until I saw it on Anthony’s channel. It’s just as natural for Hyzers as long as your using your torso angle to get the hyzer.
It's a great tip - I do think you still need some ulnar deviation, though. Otherwise I turn everything over. But maybe I'm missing something. You could also be doing that extra bit in the last moments of the throw. Thanks for this video - it was helpful.
This also helps to get flippy discs to well, flip. This same throw can be done for hyzer flips and flex shots or rollers. As long as you change posture a little bit for either shot. Brilliant work.
Tried it this afternoon. Went really well from a standstill then took some getting used to on a cross step but man they were flying so well! Will be drilling this a bit more in the coming weeks to get the muscle memory and tweak it
Definitely works. Been stuck at 450ft for over a year. Watched this 3 days ago. Threw about 25 shots in the field over 2 days and hit 520ft. Best tip there is. I also don’t feel like I’m losing accuracy with this tip. 10/10
I've only been playing for about 4 months but I think this will help me keep my backhands nose down. My forehand has started to get pretty good recently. Aim is getting better & distance has really started to get better. My backhand accuracy is getting a lot better but my distance is still pretty weak. I throw nose down to often and I have a feeling this is going to help me out. Thank you.
I use this in combination with a front loaded pinch grip and it gives the disc alot of spin, the only thing is it can be a little unpredictable so I still throw alot of more traditional locked wrist shots when I'm going for accuracy or hitting gaps.
Have to try it. I'm a very short armed dude. To make things worse my arms are really thick, and I have a barrel chest so I struggle with creating enough room for a smooth pull. Tilting the disc like that might be a huge help.
Thanks, I like being turned on to new ideas The disc would go horizontal just by its own momentum without me worrying about flipping it. Cool! Didn't give nose down flight tho. For me, it actually costs a little distance and accuracy to pull with disc held vertical
Bow. Danza 😂. I've always done this with my over stable disc not knowing. I've had a cardmate tell me my wrist looks like Ricky. Im just trying to get more spin
Just something I've noticed: sit in your hips a bit so your weight stays over the top of the disc (watch Gannon to see what I mean, look at his torso: its slightly bent over with hips engaged). Standing tall doesn't let you load the hips as much and is also why your shots are anhyzer out of your hand. Keep your arm angle flat like you have it so your shot stays level but just sit a bit in your hips. Hope this helps.
Can you elaborate on this a little bit? I have a problem with accidental anhyzer, and I tried this recently, and when I do it wrong, that happens more often. Are you saying, essentially, to bend over more? TY in advance. 🙂
I pretty much bag a slightly less stable piranha called a pre Thumtrac Birdie 👍. They're almost identical except the piranha is a little more shallow and a touch more stable. I kinda want to throw my Piranha but it's in mint shape and I lost my thrower a few years back😞. I can't get myself to take it off the wall and bag it🤷.
@@IceBergTV Circle stamp piranhas are kind of rare I would say👍. The black one I have with a rainbow stamp definitely is. I'm not really an expert collector or anything, but I haven't seen too many black piranhas, even back when everyone was throwing them. I seem to remember seeing a black piranha with a white stamp selling on eBay about 6 or 7 years ago, I can't remember how much the person got for it. I remember wanting to buy it as a thrower, but I didn't want to pay the price since I had two throwing piranhas in rotation back then. I bought 3 a long time ago and the black one went on my wall immediately. I'm not sure why but I've always been attracted to black putt and approach discs 🤷.
I’ll hav to try this, one of my biggest problems is nose up no matter how hard I try. Even switched to a 3 finger grip just to get the nose angle down.
One more thing that is good when you just "let the disc hang" there it eases tension from wrist area muscles so your throw becomes more fluid more catapultic equals more energy in the shot.
@@discgolflists Old school new england patriots logo. My school was the patriots and we used the same logo. Go google it! its literally the same thing same colors
Hey! I have to ask! That radio station looks familiar. Are you a Wisconsinite? And that field looks a lot like one that a disc golf course I regularly play at is around. Only reason I ask😅
I tried this a couple times today and it turned my shots into anhyzers instead of flat and straight with snap. High elbow and disc tilted down slightly. I must be doing something wrong 😔.. Any guess what I could be forgetting?
It is easy to get focused on a position and miss the point of the mechanical advantage. Gannon having very long appendages, that dangling disc might be the most comfortable way for him to work toward the release position. What he is displaying in simple mechanical terms is moving the wrist in the most natural and smooth way. Think of the movement of throwing a dart, it is done at a 45degree angle movement. He is doing the opposite direction of the smooth wrist movement used in throwing a dart. His release movement of wrist has long term benefits of not damaging the complex connections in wrist.
I actually did not like when I tried this weeks back…never in making any form adjustment have I done anything that makes everything into an uncontrollable sky ani, and my elbow hated it and now I’m doing PT for tennis elbow since hahaha.
'the short arm comments' - it's just fissicks bro 😂 the lever catapault length determines much about length of travel.. no way around it. Longer limbs ARE an advantage in disc golf - yes I know there's always exceptions. At least he didn't call you baby t-rex
Imagine him saying that in Arnold Schwarzenegger's voice. "Use you short little arms with your tiny body and your itty bitty hands. Good luck weakling."
All you did was throw it on anyhyzer…. The angle of the disc coming through your chest is just a result of what angle you’re trying to throw it on. Congrats, this is how you throw on “any”.
I've seen IceBerg Dylan play a couple of times down here in South West Florida and I can confirm he is a very good player. I've seen the other YT player's ratings and I'm quite positive IBD is the highest rated (other than touring pros)
You can be a knowledgeable student of something, and be able to coach people to get more out of themselves, without being the best in the world at it, yourself. 🤦🏻♂️ Some of the best pro sports coaches weren't the best players. Baseball is loaded with managers and coaches that never made it out of the minor leagues. Bill Belichick has 8 Super Bowl rings, and never even played professional football himself.
I started doing this about a year Ago. It wasn't instant but it has definitely made me more accurate and I have gained distance because the nose angle causes the disc to cut through the air.
