I just wish it had happened under different circumstances. It was meant to be a father showing his son the country of their heritage, but the son ended up watching his father die..
I did, too. I mourned him like a family member. And I think he was the consummate character actor which made him so concentrated and "inside" the role of Tony. Lovely, handsome, humble man. So terrible that he's gone.
+Big Poppa A sign of a great actor is when the actor is SO believable in his/her character, like Gandolfini was w/ Tony Soprano, that ppl are shocked to see them as who they really are. Carroll O'Connor/Archie Bunker was much the same.
Here it is almost June 2014, and I *still* can't believe that he's gone...hearing him say the words, "Oh, I'll survive" still hurt even now. Rest in peace, James.
Here in February 2021. Damn, in June 2014 I was in a junior in high school. I didn’t know of James Ghandolfini back then, but after watching so many Sopranos clips he has cemented himself as a legend in my eyes
Big legend indeed, this is my 2nd time watching the sopranos who series. James was a beautiful man in and out of his acting career. Im rewatching the series again
Cam Par No. The entire show depicted them whining about 'anti-Italian' discrimination', using the same tired old claims that blacks use. Silvio in particular did it a lot.
Cam Par Many Anglo-Saxons don't consider Italians to be white. In Europe, people South of Rome are not considered white (by Germans, French, British, etc.).
zodiacbluesbaby There’s very few actors out there who have roles that fit them perfectly. A few others include Bryan Cranston As Walter White in Breaking Bad, Ray Liotta as Henry Hill in GoodFellas, Al Pacino & Marlon Brando as Don Corleone in The Godfather. Nobody else could play those characters like those actors did.
I just finished The Sopranos for the first time in March 2023 and I’m in awe of the show and how good Gandolfini was. Will continue circling RU-vid for more videos of this man. RIP legend ❤️
Fraz This IS a New Jersey accent. For some reason they decided to make everyone in the show talk with a Brooklyn/NY accent. I live in New Jersey near New Brunswick, and aside from Hudson County and maybe parts of Bergen County, no one in NJ really sounds similar to NYC accent.
@@mrgrey361 Its more of an inner city/ tough guy accent that died out once Italians/Irish etc moved out of the cities and to the suburbs. Tony's character was born and raised in Newark which is basically the same as being raised in Brooklyn/Bronx etc as its very urban
Mr Grey true. Hollywood is pretty much clueless about NJ and it's residents beyond north Jersey. And they joke it's all landfills and dirty. They're too dumb to realize it's the Garden State. Loads of farmland, woods, and wildlife. Not to mention beautiful homes, like The Sopranos'. Silly gits.
More than a decade after the show ended and people are still watching, rewatching, and discussing. James was too humble to say this, but he was a large reason this show reached the levels it did. It’s become a cultural cornerstone and will continue to be discussed in the future like all great works of art.
He is Tony though. Always will be. Whenever someone asks what my favorite show is I always say Sopranos. It's the only show I've watched where I was completely sucked in and actually felt like I was living with these people.
“I’ll survive”.... damn that’s so weird, he died 6 years after the finale. This, plus Chris’ intervention when he says “ the way you eat, you’ll die by the time you’re 50”, and he passes at 51. Eerie stuff
@Glennandrews I'm healthy as fuck, only 38 and had a massive stroke last year. Life is a tricky little fucker. No way I'm making it to 50. In all fairness I did and do drink and smoke a little but not much. A few times each new season, Autumn is my favorite.
@Glennandrews He also carried around a broken heart for years after the love of his life died in a car crash....plus he hardly slept if he had an angry scene to film, so he would feel rough and angry through lack of sleep....all the factors together took their toll 😓
This guy played one of the baddest on screen characters in tv history. Shame he died so young, would've been really cool to see what was next for him. Would love to have seen him cameo in Boardwalk
Hi last movie he made came out after he died. It was really good. It's called The Drop. Wished he'd survived his health issues because he's just one of those really good actors that don't come along too often.
the innocent smile on his face, serious but at the same time full of humor, not gonna come any other actor or even Humanbeing like Mr.Gandolfini. I will miss him so much , The World will miss him..
*t,my braces were the ones that were very sad on the otherside of competition from ages 16-19 Aid'Baal209ssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,.........................................................................................................................IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIweare100%102%130%209%clearinwoodIwasJesusJuliuskapasassssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssswood.
Then you must not have been a fan of the Sopranos seeing he talked without his accent at the beginning of season 6a when he was in the coma and played Finnerty.
***** it was him imagining himself in another life in which he had a real job and a normal relationship w/ his kids and wife. Then at the end when he's on the bed and sitting there thinking, he's contemplating if he wants to still live (in his real life as Tony.) Brilliant
Hearing James speak with his non regional diction is so fascinating, when growing up hearing Tony all the time. I grew up watching The Sopranos with my family in our Long Island home...such a sentiment The Sopranos has become...this show (and all of the cast and crew) will forever remain in a warm, and surreal place in my heart, comforted with great nostalgia.
He’s still my favorite actor. Such an amazing talent, and a class act. Will forever live on though! Will also forever be missed and loved. Thank you James - Tony. ❤
He barely lived into middle-age, let alone old-age, yet James has left behind such an incredible body of work and a general masterclass in incredible acting. It's sad he wasn't around longer, but awesome he was around at all.
I got a chance to meet him, I was in the military at walter reed and had a very bad infection could have died ,from a surgery, I had no clue who he was and they explained I said no. Well he had a big heart and burst in and smiled put his hand up and said hey thanks for you're service. I was angry then(pain) but now wish I would have had a conversation with him.
I watched the entire series for the 5th time since its release, and noticed so many character quirks I never noticed before. Such a masterful acting performance!
He was the one and only actor that I was asked if you could meet and eat dinner with any actor who would it be! He was the greatest actor as far as I am concerned in my years of watching TV and Movies! Now this is just my opinion! I miss him and watched his last 2 movies ENOUGH SAID and DOWN THE SHORE and his acting was even more amazing, seeing the other side of TONY SOPRANO......
im such a fan of his character and the show too even though I haven't watch a single episode its enough for me to see compilations of him raging and being funny RIP
I just fell in love with James Gandolfini in the role of Tony Soprano. In real life he was a gentle, beautiful, humble man who died way too soon. He had so much more to offer. RIP James.
It's very sad and it hits deep in the heart when he 1.16 in gets the question "Will you survive...?". Gandolfini then asks: "You mean me, or Tony Soprano?" I will definitely survive but Tony ". One of the greatest actors and persons this world has ever seen. RIP!
he was so different than the character on screen. To me that is so amazing. for me he will best be known the recognition and tribute he has done for U.S. Troops. I will always remember him most for that. and that is me being a huge Sopranos fan. An all time fav show of mine for sure.
It’s 2023 big fella and Im rewatching The Sopranos from beginning to end again. I cant believe youre gone and its been over a decade since you left us. But you live on forever through your work which we will cherish forever. rest peacefully Jimmy you left us much too soon.
My heart broke when he said I'll survive, and laughed as he looked away... Theres a part of the subconscious mind that isn't convinced by the lies we tell ourselves. Its an art that the brain has honed over time to pull the wool over our own eyes but keep a third eye in the mind free to see the truth, that part is always there and knows immediately what you're going to do far before you do. It knows when you're lying to others and doesn't ever let you fully forget the truth, this is why you forget lies as time goes on but never the truth. It is at peace with death and knows you need to be fooled sometimes be happy, so it stays silent and smiles along with you as your dreams are fill with passed loved ones and pets and lets you fill your head with bittersweet fantasies, Rest in Peace James, you will never be forgotten.
"The writers are very smart, and I'm very lucky to be in the position" I'm sure they were very lucky to have you fill the role of Tony Soprano. Such a great actor. R.I.P.
I miss you terribly Mr. Gandolfini. I never felt true love for an actor until I saw The Sopranos. May you rest in the most peaceful Peace for all of eternity.
All I heard during this interview was "this says with pulp.... not this much - i like it when it says *some* pulp. the FUCK was that faww??" Approaching 3 years and still mourning one of the most remarkable actors of this era. RIP James.
James Gandolfini is huge and he is the perfect choice for Tony Soprano. I watched the Sopranos in his honor and his son Michael played Young Tony Soprano and he did a great job. I wanted to see more of the Many Saints Of Newark. and I miss this show and I didn't want it to end. RIP James John Gandolfini. You are so missed.
