May is Mouth Breathing Awareness Month!
That means over the next month, I'll posting on social media trying to spread the word, and I've asked my amazing MyoMentor Graduates to help me out.
MyoMentor students and graduates are some of the most passionate dental and healthcare professionals I know, and many of them have struggled with their own myofunctional symptoms - mouth breathing, tongue-tie, sleep disordered breathing, and more.
So I'll be interviewing THEM to share their stories and highlight what they are doing in their practices and communities to help their patients.
Today I interviewed Stephanie Kleinbrook, a dental hygienist and myofunctional therapist from Bellingham, Washington. She shared the story of her two daughters each of their individual struggles with myofunctional symptoms.
It started with her youngest having breastfeeding issues, which led to the discovery of a tongue-tie. Next, Stephanie noticed that her older daughter was grinding her teeth at night and the dentist she worked for brought up the connection between teeth grinding and breathing issues at night.
Eventually Stephanie took her daughter to meet Dr Rebecca Bockow in Seattle, and discovered that she herself need myofunctional therapy and a tongue-tie release and that's how her professional journey into getting training began.
I love how Stephanie's story connects so many dots. She is another example of a whole family needing all aspects of this treatment, including her husband.
I'm very excited for people to hear her story and get in touch with Stephanie. She's just starting her myofunctional therapy practice but where you can find her:
