I love watching folks react to this show who are not familiar with Anne Rice's incredible books. While the series has changed many things, I do believe the heart of her tale oozes off the screen. AS for what is to come all I can say is buckle up buttercup things are just getting started!

Louis and Lestat are indeed lovers, it's toxic as hell but they have an eternal bond and a deep connection. The Vampire Chronicles are actually a books series of 13 books, focusing on Lestat, but this season and probably season 2 as well is based on the first book where it's Louis who tells the story to Daniel, the journalist. You should watch the Brad Pitt/Tom Cruise movie from 1994 based on the same book, it's a masterpiece (despite the changes made) and it will give you some clue what to expect and you'll notice how it differs from the show, although the gay subtext is almost non-existent (different times back then). Lestat kills Lily after Louis pulls back from him out of spite because he doesn't like to be ignored, Lestat is used to getting what he wants, and he has a very volatile temper. But he did not kill Paul. Louis' brother had mental problems and killed himself.

Lily was alive the night after Louis' and Lestat's night together, you can see her the next morning putting her hand on Louis' shoulder, when he is making the decision to forget that night out of fear of being discovered as a gay man. Lestat killed her out of frustration after waiting for Louis to come back to him. You can hear him allude to it during the funeral march, saying that Lily proved to be a poor substitute. My opinion on the reasons why it's not blowing up as other shows that are simply not on the same lvl as this one are: -Racism/Homophobia: You have a queer black main lead in a relationship with a "french white" main lead -book loyalists/purists: who say, they don't like the changes they made in this adaptation -you need to pay for it either with a subscription directly to amc+ or via amazon prime. With all the other channels, it gets quickly expensive and u might want to wait until all the episodes are out, so u only need to pay one month Thanks for reacting, it's a brilliant show. Season 2 has already been renewed before the first episode was out, because the first season was that good and critics/reviewer loved it.

"Did we have prostitutes back in the early 1900s?" Fun fact: Prostitution is often referred to as "the world's oldest profession", because as long as there have been human societies there have been sex workers. So yes, prostitutes definitely existed in the early 1900s, as well as back in biblical times and long before that too.
@ekaterinanyx4598
@ekaterinanyx4598 Год назад
again sexist men with this "the world's oldest profession". No, the oldest profession for women is actually midwifery, but misogynistic men made up a lie about prostitution being the oldest profession as a justification to rape women more. Prostitution aka enslaving and raping women and using their bodies for money is not an oldest profession at all.
@heathenpotato
@heathenpotato Год назад
@@ekaterinanyx4598 You're certainly right that there are professions older than sex work; midwifery and farming being among them. My only intention with my comment was to point out that sex work is ancient, and I used the shorthand of "world's oldest profession" to do that, which I suppose in retrospect might have been careless of me. I do feel the need to point out that I never once implied that sex work is something only done by women, or that rape of any sex worker is in any way acceptable, though. Sex work is something engaged in by people of all genders, and they all deserve to be treated with respect, in case that wasn't crystal fucking clear. Don't get me wrong, it absolutely has the potential to be incredibly exploitative, but I don't personally believe it's inherently so. Also, I'm not a man, just fyi.

To be honest I really liked your reaction/review. It's a good show. Yeah its different. The book purists don't think it's close enough to the book, but as a stand-alone show its really good. What I also liked about your review was when you discovered the main character is gay, you moved past it. Theres been a few reviewers who linger on that and say things like "this is gay erotica, and I don't like that". It's no more erotic than any other hetero show on these streaming services, that doesn't make it "erotica". And like I said, you sounded like you enjoyed the show as a whole. And that's really what it's all about. Telling a story that entertains. Thanks! Subscribed.

It's not Lestat's business card, it's what's known as a calling card. During the eighteenth century upper class and aristocratic members of European society used calling cards to announce themselves to others socially. When someone would visit the home of a friend or acquaintance if they weren't at home you would leave your card so they knew you had called on them and per the rules of polite society, it was now their turn to call on you.

I'd like to give people the benefit of the doubt. I've not seen any advertising, or I'd have watched it when it came out. It's been a long time since I read the books, but I seem to remember that they were gay in the book? I think the people who might object probably do so because they watched the movie, not knowing the book, and didn't realise. People object to changes from original books just to cater to 'wokism,' especially if they are fans, but most fans of the movie haven't read the book, so wouldn't know that it was actually the movie that changed/dumbed down quite a lot from the book. I think if people have read the book, they will be happy with the gay characters, but less so if they're fans of the movie where it wasn't made explicit. Does that make sense? I'm looking forward to seeing where they take this series. I liked the book and the movie.

going to try answering some of the stuff you questioned! 1. lily didn't die during that night, we see her leaving the same time louis does. im pretty sure her and lestat met up a few more times before lestat got bored and killed her 1.5. i think its funny how even after the clear implications that louis is a deeply suppressed gay man who lies to himself saying that he likes miss lily you still seemed to genuinely believe that he had feelings for her LOL, i think you missed that while watching 2. lestat biting louis that first time wasnt turning him into a vampire, it's just how vampires do That act, if you know what i mean 3. pauls death wasn't lestats doing, i think it was shown perfectly how unpredictable a person struggling similarly to paul can do something like that. 4. yes, louis and lestat are endgame, but its important to understand that this couple is completely toxic, a lot of people enjoy the toxicity of it, but due to a nasty fight in a future episode it is 100% understandable for you to want them to be separated, that's how i feel at least. 5. The original story is by anne rice, there are i think 13 books of this, so this show can go on for at least a decade! there is also a 1994 movie starring brad pitt and tom cruise which only covers the first books. in my opinion, the show is a lot better, but you should check out the movie if youre interested. there is also another movie based on another book in the series called "queen of the damned" which... i definitely think couldve been better. great reaction & review! this will be very interesting since you're new to the story, excited to watch the rest of your reactions! sorry if some of these questions were already answered, i hope i helped you understand things a little better!

Sorry, late to this one, I’m so glad you decided to do this series. You got answers already to your question, what is this? Personal experience: The Vampire Chronicles were an essential highlight of southern Gen X Goth Romantic teenagers’ reading lists. I read TVL when it was first published and was entranced w it, then backed up to Interview, and thereafter was dying for the next book to come out, then the next. I read the first couple of Mayfair Witches books at that time also. They are also coming out as a tv series late this year or early next, I can’t remember. I lost track of both book series by the late 80s though. Too busy reading real life stuff for school and work. Didn’t realize Rice kept going, and there are far more books I haven’t read than have. I am so excited. The book set is on my Christmas list.

It broke records for AMC+. It's just not GOT level popular, but AMC is also a much smaller cable network. This show also got a lot of hate before release due to changes from the book, and the "woke" hating bandwagon crowd. Once it premiered, people realized it's a very well executed, well written show. I think it's going to be a sleeper hit. The executive producer of Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul is behind this so I am not surprised it's good.

I think this show is gonna kick your ass in the best way if you're willing to look at the rest of the season. Edited to add - "he knows know to play the room" should be Lestat's middle name!

😏..💭You think Lestat did all that just to have a strong bond with him... lol ~ No, He wanted Louis to be his lover, man, companion, husband!... (He stalked Louis before they met, Went to all his regular hang-out spots so he could be around him, etc.)

➡; Lily was a woman that Louis would regularly visit, Lestat was stalking Louis before they met and he would be at all of Louis's regular hang-out spots before he got there!., *Lestat glancing back before Louis came in at the card game... (12:03) he was trying to shoot his shot, and brainwash Louis every chance he could. ~Lestat also used Ms. Lily to get Louis in his house for a 3-way, (he killed her.) Louis counted that as a one time thing and Didn't plan on going back. (So Lestat basically forced Louis into the relationship., under duress!) js. 😏

I think there are a few reasons this has not completely blown up-first is sad to say, homophobia. Second is this is based on a 1973 book that have been made into a movie with Brad Pitt and Tom cruise, and a musical. So ppl are butt hurt that they made Louis and Claudia black, some ppl hate that they made some. Changes from the book. That almost always happens when you base a show on a book, it is really decisive between the book ppl and the show ppl, and in this case also the movie ppl. I think if ppl watched it with an open mind they would love it.

@@mynameisnoonesbusiness4488 Isn't it a strange world we live in. Last time the adapted this, they couldn't show the gay stuff, this time around they don't feel they can introduce a child into the mix. Claudia was meant to be a child, that was a huge part of the horror of her character, so I admit I am a bit miffed. But I will watch it anyway.

I kinda love that Louis had the interview in 1973 but Daniel and seems to have then fully fucked all the off until 2022 when he’s sort of bored in quarantine and wax poetic about is messy ex boyfriend with Daniel and Daniel is like are I serious right now? But also like hey look imma mosey bitch and I gots to know wtf is up Louis? What’s the real story here?

📌; Lestat was Stalking Louis before they ever met, That's why he was there with Lily, (Lily was a woman Louis would regularly go talk to and stuff, She worked at a bigger Brothel.) and Lestat used her to get Louis in his house for that 3-some. (then he killed her.) AND he was also a Louis card game etc. Trying to get with him. *He was always trying to impress Louis, doing tricks etc. (I know they are in New Orleans, but he wouldn't had to tell me something after those tricks!) js. 🛑 I think Lestat used his vampire mind control on Louis at his house for the 3-some, AND at the church!

💭; He didn't turn Louis that first time, He thought Louis was coming back, But Louis said he didn't want to go back there again!... So Lestat went crazy and started mentally stalking Louis, and killed people he used to confide in... ~Louis was basically forced into the relationship after Lestat busted in the church and killed the priest.

@Reacting A Fool, finally...my show. It saddens me that you show the ultraviolence, yet blur out the human body. What message does it send? Just a thought. Adieu, Mon Ami 🖤🌹🖤
@christinamoxon
@christinamoxon Год назад
RU-vid would ban it if he showed the nudity. It's not necessarily his decision. The ultra-violence should be blurred out too, or allow age ratings to show both. I agree it's sending the wrong message, but that's RU-vid fault, not 'Reacting A Fool's.'

Did you consider trying the book? I think you'll find the series is much closer to the original book. The movie was amazing, no doubt about it, but try to keep an open mind. Comparisons should be made between the adaptations and the book, rather than each other. They're both showing their own, unique spin on things - and the series will have more time and scope, which isn't possible to fit into a single movie.
