Your comment about Louis not intervening really got to me. I was disappointed in him. Taking back Lestat was Louis's choice, so it's sad that he couldn't use his power over Lestat to force him to let Claudia go. Of course, Louis is still healing himself, figuring out what he wants, and doesn't actually want Claudia to leave even if he's willing to lovingly let her go. It's wonderfully conflicted. And could we love Louis without his flaws? At the risk of projecting too much, I'm a Black guy married to a white dude, and my hub is more assertive and less conflict-averse than I am. So many times he'll end a tedious social engagement in a way that I find rude. And yet I recognize that I sometimes benefit from him being the rude one, the bad cop, because I also have been spared the engagement without having to be rude myself. I'm rude by proxy. So Lestat being Louis-by-proxy is an element, too. Though Claudia is too much her father's daughter (Lestat) to take this lying down.

Yo.... I didn't realize this either. That adds another layer of ick that I wasn't anticipating. So technically Louis's form of abuse is very indirect, which now that I am thinking about it has been consistancec since the first ep. even though he feels alltogether different now, he is the same person who in the coffessional unloads to the priest how he actaully realize the damage his proffesion does, but he does it anyway. ICKY!!!!!! But the pieces are coming together in such an unexpectedly amazing way.
@davon1650
@davon1650 Год назад
@@remholloway2579 I mean, of Louis’s flaws, and I say this as a Louis-lover, he’s complicit, hypocritical, passive-aggressive and remarkably oblivious about himself for a man who ponders and navel-gazes so much. But Louis is oblivious to his own charms as well, which is what makes him so compelling to others. Even Lestat says that he can forgive Louis the “vanity” of the “lies” he tells about Lestat because Louis had so little vanity anyway. As to Louis’s abuse of Claudia, I don’t know if I would go super far there. I think we have the rather common abused spouse dynamic where they don’t adequately protect the children from the abuser. Louis might berate Lestat for making Claudia watch Charlie burn but he doesn’t stop it. And, notably, the one time we see Louis definitively stand up for Claudia, he gets the beat-down of his life. And I’ve no doubt Louis would do it all over again as Lestat had crossed a red line for him.

I think Lestat loves her deep down he's her maker after all. And the vamps in Europe combines with the N*zis during WW2 would have made for a tragic European 'holiday' So indirectly he was saving Claudia although his main motive was to keep Louis happy. Great reaction as always. So much fun to watch. Can't pick a favorite moment on this episode. I love every scene from start to finish, it sets up everything for the finale. Highlights for me are Louis's rehabilitation with Claudia, the coffin drop, the thought of Louis swimming the Mississippi river, the look on Lestat's face when Louis barged in the room (he was ready),Louis telling Antoinnette to GTFO, seeing Louis manhandle Lestat (he more than deserves it), hearing a little bit of Lestat's backstory, Louis asking Lestat about Paul, Louis letting go of Claudia😭 Lestat's little hop in the train, the whole train scene and the chess scene. So many highlights for me. I can't wait for the finale.

Okay. So Lestat may be a violent sadistic asshole, but Louis is not innocent in all this and he knows it too. "I am not a victim." That's right. Better get off your high horse because yes, Lestat did him wrong but he is gonna do Lestat even dirtier, and two wrongs don't make it right. I'd say murder is way worse than a beating, and Louis even beat up Lestat in this episode, so pot meet kettle. Louis is also not setting Lestat free. The man has asked to be released twice but Louis won't say the words. And we know Lestat is capable of letting go because he did let Nicki go, so he's actually given Louis the opportunity to end it in a peaceful way now with the potential to maybe reunite later down the line when they have both lived longer and become hopefully wiser, but no... instead Louis is like: "I'll just kill him instead." That is messed up. They honestly deserve each other. By the way, the story Lestat told about Magnus is absolutely true, he did kill himself and all the people Lestat has ever cared about have left him, including his mother and Nicki. Also, the cloud gift is the last ability the vampires gain, it takes a lot of time for it to show up, Lestat has it despite his "young" age because he fed off an ancient vampire once. It's also the reason he is as powerful as he is. If you drink from the ancients you become stronger. You can kill a vampire in many ways; sunlight, fire, dead blood, so Claudia has options... it's all about outsmarting Lestat, we'll see what they end up doing. I understand why Claudia wants to kill Lestat after that scene on the train, that was all kinds of fucked up, but Lestat is actually doing it out of his love for Louis. He doesn't want her but he knows Louis won't last long without her so he needs to bring her back to save Louis. It's twisted but its love. Lestat wouldn't actually kill Claudia, he knows that's a crime in the vampire world, but he needs to scare her into staying put. There's a VERY GOOD reason Lestat does not want them to go back to Europe and it's all about their safety. Regarding this murder plot and Louis... he is just not right in the head at this point in time, he wants Lestat dead but at the same time, he wants him all to himself. It's that "can't live with you, can't live without you" kind of thing. Right now I am more curious about Rashid. Who he is, WHAT he is, why he is such a simp for Louis. I'm intrigued. Also, I think Antoinette is actually a genderbent Antoine. Their names are so alike and their storylines seem to be too. In that case, she is more than just a side chick. This is a more than decade-long relationship and Lestat does not keep "toys" around for that long. He might actually love her, but not in the all-consuming way he loves Louis. In the books Lestat falls in love with many people, has many lovers and all the relationships sort of overlap in a very polyamorous way, but that's also just the very vampire way, it's not just Lestat who is like that, they are all very passionate creatures ruled by emotion. Louis is simply the odd one out, they call him the "human" vampire, the others... that's the thing about him that makes him unique and why so many including Lestat are so fascinated with him... but he's too young and inexperienced and Lestat's kept him away from the others so he doesn't really know how it all works. But you can tell from present Louis, that he knows now, he is wiser and he has regrets, especially about Lestat. Just the way he recants his original story and the way he reacted to the song being played in present-day says a lot. He knows Lestat was not as bad as he made him out to be, especially not compared to the others out there, and he misses him.

@@jaysotho Honestly, it was more like a fight than someone just being beat up. Lestat may have been rough with Claudia but he wasn't going to kill her, and Louis overreacted and pounced on Lestat first. You can see him attacking Lestat too, Lestat even tells him they should stop fighting. The reason Louis is so badly injured is because Lestat is so much more powerful than him, had they been equal in power, I am sure he would have given Lestat a good ass-kicking too. There is no reason for them to kill him, all Lestat needs to hear is; "I don't love you and I never will." He asks for this repeatedly. But Louis can't say it because he does love him.
@remholloway2579
@remholloway2579 Год назад
@@KiannaKitter Well for Claudia there is more of a reason I suppose. In ep. 5 after learning the hard way of what Lestat was saying to her all along she came back and was following both of them for awhile, even though at this point I think she very much still resent the both of them. But "because meaning ceased to exist without them." when she saw what happend between Louis and his sister I think thats when she shifted her resentment to Lestat and decided to absolve Louis to a certain degree, because mind you Lestat has been keeping secrets this entire time, since she isn't blinded by the love that Louis feels this adds to her resentment, which is an element from the books. What turned resentment into hate is watching what happened between Lestat and Louis. What adds to that even more was how easily Louis took Lestat back into their lives, and then when she was trying to break free of the cycle of abuse she was dragged right back in. On Louis part from my perspective it seems like he is at a point where he basically feels he can't live with Lestat, if Claudia isn't there; but he also can't live without him as well. Which I kind of find reminiscent of the book (at least the first one, I haven't finished it lol) its toxic love as well as toxic codependant. Also someone pointed out earlier I don't know if it was this video or on another channel, but Lestat basically listens to everything Louis says, so if he would have told Lestat to let Claudia go he probably would have; so in essance he is using Lestat to keep Claudia around. Indirect abuse I feel like this is Louis's way.
@KiannaKitter
@KiannaKitter Год назад
@@remholloway2579 I don't think Louis took Lestat back easily, it took 6 years for him to break, it's not like it was just a few weeks. It says a lot about how hard he actually tried to bury his love for Lestat, but just can't. And that Lestat never gave up says a lot too, most would have moved on by then, but he can't let go either. It's what makes it so hard to not ship it because... yeah, they're toxic as hell but damn it if they aren't soulmates as well. What they have is REAL no matter how dysfunctional it is. Claudia, where to start with her... the way she clings on to wanting to find the others despite what Lestat has told her, despite what Lestat is (and he is from there) and despite her own bad experiences really frustrates me. "They can't all be like him... or him." Um yeah, they can... and worse. But she is gonna have to learn it the hard way, I guess. Louis was always her favorite (and who can blame her) so it's easy and more convenient for her to just shift all her love onto him and all the blame onto Lestat, even though they're both equally to blame. Louis shouldn't have begged Lestat to turn her and Lestat should have known better than to give in but as you've said... despite the power dynamic seemingly tilting in his direction with Louis being the more calm submissive one (outwardly), in a more subtle way Lestat is more or less under Louis' spell. He really does do everything for him, as he's stated. He bought the Azalea even though he thought it was a bad idea (and it did end badly), he turned Claudia for him even though he knew it was a bad idea (and it did end badly), he is going against all his instincts... trying so desperately to make Louis happy; but I don't actually think Louis is capable of true happiness, he is way too tortured for that. Those 7 years in that hoarder house really should have told Lestat that but he still stayed, even after the fight, he returned ready to take the blame for it, ready to let Louis beat him up, ready to answer their questions. He forces Claudia to stay because of him, Louis' wellbeing. He is so in love with that man, it's ridiculous, and I don't understand how people can't see it.

I don’t know if anyone answered or told you this, about when was Lestat made into a vampire. It was I think 1781 or smth like some 8 years before the French Revolution (I always remember dates better near big events). Here I guess it’s the same. But in the books he’s been a vampire for only 10 years when he met Louis. (Cuz the story was set in 1790s and forward.) So it’s rather funny when you read and you have the feeling that he is ancient and he’s just a baby. On top of that he’s like 6 years older than Louis and it’s like they’re like peers. 🤣 But ofc you can’t ignore his experience. What he said about Magnus is true and oh my god yeah… He does have a shit ton of experience with everyone and everything in this area. Also, here, in the series, being 200 y.o against some 30yo dude, like he tells them over and over again about the viciousness. But because he does it this way, they don’t want to believe him. Ohh how they’ll regret it!

Very risky idea. What I don’t get is why Lestat isn’t being nicer. He should know better at this point that he’s being abusive, overplaying his power, and it’s not gonna have a good outcome.

I don't think he *CAN* stop himself! Vampires can mature and change in some way, but they have to want it.

He’d probably be nicer if it weren’t for Claudia. He seems like he hates her, but also in ep 5 he tells her “it was never you,” so idk what the hell he thinks.

@@carmelito2373 Oh, I interpreted it as “my problem was never with you,” but yours makes more sense ahaha. And yeah, he does need Claudia for Louis. I feel like that makes his dislike for her even stronger, because that means Lestat alone isn’t enough to make him happy.
