Wow, Disney made an episode of a documentary series that actually delves deep into it's subject matter? Well color me shocked.

Not to mention,Katsushi Murakami is the father of Machine Robo/Gobots. Majority of the designs were by him including the Battlehackers and Revenge of Cronos toys.

I came I with low expectations but by the end I was so happy to see stan lee speak so highly about the genere as a whole.

Absolutely fantastic video! I felt that it was a great love letter to Japanese Spider-Man & Tokusatsu as well! Loving the content, keep it coming!

I think I watched this around the same time as you did, and I have to agree. I've rarely seen such love, nostalgia, and reverence for a show presented in a mainstream documentary. The big highlight for me was... pretty much every single word that Shinji Todo said. When his lip started to quiver, I teared right up with him. Thanks for providing your insights as always!

I'm a Tokusatsu fan and a Spider-Man fan, and I'd watched Disney+ original Documentary series Marvel 616 episode Japanese Spider-Man.

I had the pleasure of viewing it and was also moved by the love shown from the people who were involved.

I'm just sad they didn't get Yukie Kagawa for it considering she's still alive and well.

To be fair, Japanese Spiderman is a complete fever dream. But then the 70's US one was also pretty insane as well.

I have the Spaida-man show on DVD. It is too bad they didn't follow up with another TV show.

Great work as usual! I am so loving this short vid, and I'm as happy as you are on how they handled it. And yes, auditory relief from the guests (but thankfully I dodged Nonaka's interview the 2nd time, but not the 1st and I was like "aaaaahhhhh!!!! Voice-over translations! THE PAIN! THE MENTAL PAIN!!!! ARGH!!!" when I didn't dodge that due to watching it live the 1st time minutes ago) because they got to talk subbed, no holds barred. That said if Supaidaman (and by extension, Battle Fever J) comes out on Disney+ (that also applies to Pepper Ann, since that show is the last of the One Saturday Morning shows that's not on the service), I'd happily subscribe. Also on a sad case, Disney+ stopped offering free trials for the service, and you can blame Hamilton for that. All in all, good vid, will look forward to more!

Yeah, Japanese Spiderman on Disney+. Not impossible... but I'm not holding my breath either. Though I do hope I'll see it.

They gotta bring him back in a no way home sequel, or a straight up live action spiderman movie

Update: the episode is now gone from Disney+ as well as the rest of the 616 series as the show was part of the big Disney+ purge. Good luck finding this episode now in some way.

I mean......with everything Disney has done to destroy my childhood in recent memory, I don't think even the Japanese Spiderman can sway me. But I'm glad to hear they are shining some light toku.

While this is a decent review of the episode I don't really get why you thought there was disdain for the show in the west. Its good that it got a decent episode about its history but the general feeling for that show was that it was a meme even in japan this show is a meme.

Heck, I was thrilled to see the American Spider-Man represented (however briefly) and without snark.
