People are pointing out the stupidity of the Pet comment while trying to pull Mark to his side, to me I think it's because he's trying to lie to himself as much as Mark
Exactly. This whole episode was Nolan vs Omni-Man as much as it was Omni-Man vs Mark. It's totally shown by how conflicted Nolan is when he leaves the planet.
The baseball flashback confirms it. That's why he went so hard with murdering innocent people. He wasn't just trying to harden Mark, he was trying to snuff out the humanity in himself
@@SnakeRoadComicsOfficial3677 why did he marry her and make a kid with her in the first place then? that was a really dumb thing to do if he didn't want to fall in love.
His voice cracking while crying is too real but that "I don't give a SHIT about viltrum and I don't care if I live a fucking million years" really hit home
Yeah you know in universe the whole argument kinda doesn’t work when you realize the Immortal apparently has been doing this hero thing already for thousands of years without any issues...other than losing his head on occasion
There's a lot of stuff he could have said differently that would have made this easier. When Mark says he won't let him destroy earth, he could have corrected him by saying it's not their job to destroy worlds, but improve them. That enslaving a world typically means imposing oppressive rule and exploiting its people but the difference is the Empire offers the means for a better quality of life, peace, and stability in return for becoming part of it. That while they live for millenia, the people they meet in life will exist only briefly for them, but they can still make a difference to them in that time, witness generations of people thrive thanks to them. All of that may have sounded more appealing, but Omni-Man has this perception of infallibility and freedom of consequence that actually hinders his efforts, sure he can still achieve his goals the hard way by acting like a prick, but why want to?
What he should have said "I do love your mother, but we'll both outlive her a thousand times over." What he actually said "I love your mom like id love my dog"
And that’s the difference between you; a sane person who can understand complex emotional relationships vs Omni Man; a sociopath from a planet of sociopaths who don’t value someone’s life beyond their superiority to another life
Omni-Man: I need to gently bring my son to my side in order for my plan to succeed. Also Omni-Man: I'm gonna say that I see my wife and his mother as a pet.
@@comedygod522 yeah he's a psychotic monster, but from his perspective he's just stepping on a group of ants, he genuinely cared for his wife but he lived far longer with his people, in comparison she's pretty much an insect and he's a child who got attached to it knowing that it won't live more than a few days
Omniman: “I don’t want you to have to watch everyone you love grow old and die... so we’re gonna just go kill them all now instead, rip the bandaid off”
@@alex939709 considering they constantly murdered their own kind to create a super race I don’t think their idea of a peaceful annexation would leave many humans alive.
@@biker3982 In a way, it does. The comic's, and subsequently the show's main theme is optimism. Something you might sorely need in a world, or galaxy like theirs.
Well, have this in consideration: Nolan is a Viltrumite: other planet, other culture, other moral code and deffinitely other "etiquette". For him, calling his wife "a pet" didn't sounded that bad in his mind; and actually, it has sense since his wife will be gone in a blink compared of what Nolan will live. Yeah, it's inhuman... and Nolan is deffinitely NOT human.
Marks VA is incredible. I knew it ever since the first(?) episode during his and his dad's first training - the way he made his voice sound after Nolan knocked the wind out of him was so convincing
Honestly some of the most organically executed dialogue ive ever heard in something animated, not to mention the actual way things are worded. Big props to everyone involved
@@SaturnsFlowersthis is an old comment but I wanted to say the same thing. The voice actors nailed this more than any other animated thing I've ever seen. They really made these feel like real people REALLY having this conversation. It was so intense and so passionately voiced in some of these scenes, especially in the finale episodes.
I just realized something pretty big... What Nolan meant by making sure Mark was human... it has so much meaning. Because when Mark was confirmed to be a Viltrumite. He HAD to go through with the plan... but why? And then it hit me. If Mark was human, Nolan would have likely waited a hundred years before starting the conquest. He would have let Debbie and Mark live their life to their fullest and then once they were gone. Go through with the plan. It just makes much more sense to me considering all the other alternatives. As he was clearly shocked and conflicted at finding out his sons powers... On one hand, his son was to him... gonna be with him far longer then he believed but on the other. It also meant that his plan to wait things out wasn’t possible anymore. Since Mark was gonna be alive by then. Mind blown.
@@thebigquack6945no lol. The above comment is wrong on so many levels. I don’t know why people think that the pet quote Omni Man made would change the outcome any better. Literally he wasn’t lying to himself or made a mistake, he actually do meant that. I can debate if anybody want to try. Now as for this comment. If Mark didn’t have his powers, eventually he would do exactly what he was meant to do. You said he will have waited for hundreds of years before starting the conquest? Because he care about Mark and Debbie? Well that is wrong. He literally beat up his son and nearly killed him before experiencing the “this is what it feels like to be a dad”. If he didn’t experience that, he would have killed Mark. So this make sense considering all the other alternatives. He was clearly shock and disappointed the moment he realize he should have trained his son earlier. Rather than treating him as a human. Him being shocked of his sons powers can mean many things, so when you said he was shock because of mark powers, you were just guessing. On one hand you then said that he got his son? Well what about it? If Mark didn’t have his powers, Omni Man would have to continue on with his plan on conquering Earth. Season 2 proves this because it took place a few months after Mark join Nolan. Meaning if Mark didn’t make Nolan feel so emotional, Omni Man would have gone with the plan without him a few months later. If he did have his powers but Nolan convinces Mark to join him, Season 2 proves this to be the case. Mark did in fact join him. So the whole comment about the show is wrong and pretty outdated considering the comment was 5 months ago before season 2. But it was a bad guess I suppose.
Gotta hand it to Mark he refused to conquer earth with his old man, and chose to do what is right despite getting beaten to pulp. Just shows how much of a great superhero he is even if he's imperfect.
To be honest mark was probably thinking hard at you can see the gears turning when the screen looks at him as he silently sits there processing everything
1:57 always gives me the chills. Marks speech here is so powerful and shows his true unbreakable will. That’s why he’s called invincible, he has a invincible will power and determination not bc he’s actually invincible and I think a lot of people miss that and make fun of his name.
When omni man said he loved marks mom like a pet, it played out similarly like when Ego told Quill that he put the tumor inside his mom. They both snapped out of it. Its definitely not the same, just has a similar feel.
This reminds me of that scene in Guardians of the Galaxy 2 where Ego reveals the truth to Starlord about his mother's death. But the results were a lot different.
Goddamn Steven Yeun’s voice work and direction here is immaculate. His voice breaking and utter disbelief when he says “A pet?” and “Don’t touch me” and his other line deliveries are just great. Nicely done.
=BUT.........WHAT'S ABOUT RELATIONS OF VEGETA AND BULMA THEN=??????............. =THAT "INVINCIBLE" IS BASICALLY A RIPOFF OF DRAGON BALL Z.....WHICH WAS BLENDED WITH DC STYLE.........ISNT THAT
@@robotnikkkk001 Saiyans still age to death in the same amount of time humans do, they just retain their looks and youth for much longer to be better fighters. Once they hit like 80 it will begin to catch up to them quickly, iirc.
@@delta2372 Would he? I can understand Mark sympathizing with his perspective, but actually going along with the subjugation of Earth and the enormous death-toll that would necessarily incur seems a bit of a stretch.
@@MasteringJohn SPOILERS Yes he likely would, there are multiple alternative dimensions where he did join his dad and took over the world. Robot is usually the force of resistance.
Nolan's argument about lifespan is not that strong when you realize that there was one hero who lived thousands of years already: the Immortal. The guy outlived his loved ones time and time again, and STILL tries to protect people, and STILL maintains friendships with those he'll outlive.
=HMPH.........DON'T YOU NOTICE STRONG DRAGON BALL Z VIBES HERE,NOPE????? =JUST MAKING A STATEMENT THAT SAIYANS WERE ABOUT TO SPREAD THEIR NEWBORN CHILDREN TO PLANETS...THEN CHILDREN WERE GROWING UP,GROWN STRONGER,DESTROYED ALL PLANET'S MILITARY TO MAKE A EASY PREY...AND GOKU JUST WAS BRAIN DAMAGED...
To the people saying they understand why omniman called his wife his pet, keep in mind the immortal exist in this show. Someone who’s lived for THOUSANDS of years just as Omniman has. He has watched wife after wife, child after child die. And even in the comics after his most recent wife died from old age he is broken by it.
Think about it, Omni man has potentially lived for thousands of years. He's seen wars, he's killed many, he's possibly loved many, he's also potentially outlived every single living being he's ever met that wasn't another viltrumite. He's seen this happen before, he's seen other beings, potentially great beings, beings that he may have on some level cared for just pass. Again and again and again. Just like with pets you mourn for a bit, but eventually you move on. It's just a fact of life that any animal (besides a fucking turtle or some shit) you bring into your life will be outlived by you by multiple lifespans. We just accept it. Omni man has done that, except with basically all life besides viltrumites.
This is some of the greatest voice-acting I’ve ever heard in any show ever. It sounds so genuine and flows extremely well. I cant wait for the next season.
Can we just take a second to appreciate the excellent performance we're getting from Simmons and Yeun? Haven't seen these guys since Spider Man and TWD and *wow* what a comeback!
I think one of the reasons Omni-Man didn't get too attached to Debbie is because... well... he's effectively immortal compared to normal humans. By the time Debbie dies of old age, Nolan would barely age a year by Viltrumite standards. So that's probably why he forced himself to love Debbie as a "pet" rather than an equal... because while we love our pets, sometimes dearly, we know that they won't last long.
I get what your saying. As a relatively immortal person getting attached to a person with a shorter life span would lead to heartache. Even so I think the pain is worth it, since I would remember them and the short amount of time makes every moment more precious
Omni man couldn’t even say he didn’t love Debbie he had to try explain to mark why he didn’t care but really he was telling himself why he shouldn’t care
This is some of the best voice acting I've ever heard. The "I don't give a shit about Viltrum and I don't care if I live a fuckin million years." Line is so convincing in its delivery.
Omni man: Your mother is like a pet to me. . . Tony Stark: You screwed the pooch hard. Big time. But then you did the right thing: you didn’t take the dog to the free clinic, but you raised the hybrid puppies...
When omni man called marks mom a pet it was taking the knife and just twisting it further and further in. Fuck man. Fuck that was horrible. And steve's response is so good. Man the voice acting is on point. Yeuns giving one hell of a performance. Chalked to the brim with emotion. And jk simmons is so flat. The contrast is so good. Because it's also nolan lying to himself. Because deep down he knows he loves them both deeply but he just can't be shown as weak because it's so imbedded in his dna and his way of thinking. As much as nolan wants to deny it he's come to appreciate the little moments. It's because life for humans is so short that it's so precious. It gives everything you do deeper meaning. Nolan felt that and deep down he knows it's changed him.
I feel so bad for Omni-man. He just wanted to bring a better life to the people of earth but his own son chose the friends he grew up with over the viltrimites, his pet Debbie didn't believe in him, and he was so sad he flew away. Clearly the true victim.
The pet comment reminds me of Doctor Who. Like he clearly does love her but there's a certain detachment he has to have because he knows his time with her is brief. Omniman clearly tries to avoid pain and emotions as much as can as a way of dealing with trauma he's experienced from living that long.
You know the way Nolan describes the benefits of being under Vitlrum rule sound pretty sweet. But the thing is, since Nolan has basically been fed propaganda his whole life (for thousands of years basically) it's probably not as nice as he's making It sound.
What an absolute legendary combination of voice actors lol, I cant even decide which one of the two is better The way Steven Yeun's voice cracks on "THIS IS MY LIFE" and the way J.K. Simmons just.. says anything? Spectacular.
2:11 “I’m not scared of death, and I’m not afraid of death, I’m not scared of You, Or Your People, anybody but God, And I don’t care if I surrender for death or Not, THIS IS OUR LAND, and I WON’T LET YOU DESTROY IT”
Omniman oddly reminds me alot about CLU, ( CLU is the main villain in tron ) both are very careless and emotionless, they also both have dark intentions, CLU wanted to conquer “The Grid” while Omniman wants to conquer earth.
this would be a funny sence to have superman watching this show and batman walk in, and thinking nope this is not a show for you, it might give you ideas.
0:44 The look on Omni-Man's face says that he truly loves Mark and his mother. When he turns back to Mark its the Viltrum side of him that's in control of his actions.
"I don't give a shit about Viltrum! And I don't care if I live a fuckin MILLION years! This is my home and I won't let you destroy it!" -A real fuckin hero
Omni was honestly making a good point and it would’ve actually worked but he’s making it sound much more villainous( but he didn’t have to hurt his boy)
I haven't watched the show at all, but Omni-man seems to be the more reasonable person. Invincible seems like a brash teenager that really doesn't know what he is doing. Unless, that is, there is a way to just, ya know, let Earth decide what it wants to do. I'm assuming the situation somehow requires Earth's involvement.
Well, pets are a good way to convey the concept of immortality on someone. An average dog-owner will have out lived several dogs in their lifetime. Dogs are only really expected to live about 12 years, where as people live to be about 90.
Omni-Man could have easily taken over the world if he wanted too, I couldn't imagine being so strong to the point even the governments strongest weapons couldn't even scratch you SPOILERS: Worse part is, Omni-Man is far from the strongest being in the galaxy 😨
It's no coincidence that the next thing Nolan talks about after saying he had to make sure Mark was a Viltrumite... is Viltrumite lifespan. No, Mark being human wouldn't have meant he'd be "just another human to conquer". Mark being human would mean he could live his whole lifespan without him ever having to know the awful truth about his father. Nolan had a very, _very_ lenient deadline for conquering Earth. Taking another century wouldn't have been a problem. That's what Nolan wanted. That's why Nolan didn't want to tell Mark the truth until it became clear Nolan wouldn't outlive him.
This scene really improved my view on Mark. At first, he seemed like a brat who just got his powers and want to be a hero to be famous. But here, we see that Nolan raised Mark well, perhaps too well, considering Nolan’s goal. If Mark was just a brat, when given the power, he would most likely develop a superior complex and at the very least would consider Nolan’s offer of standing above humans. But no, without a hint of hesitation, he refused. And during the following fight, we see that Mark truly is a hero who just want to help people. Perhaps Nolan was a better man than he thought for he raised a great son and hero.
Everybody freaking out over the Igdaf about Viltrum line, like I think the beauty of this moment is when Nolan tells him he doesn't know what he's saying and he responds with "I know exactly what I'm saying," before throwing his hands up
