iPhones that use OLED displays such as the iPhone X, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max are all potentially prone to screen burn-in or ghosting of the image on the iPhone display. In this video I show you an iPhone X that has been used ever since the release date a few years ago and see if it has burn-in. I also show you the iPhone 11 Pro Max as well. #iPhone #apple #iphone11pro

Have you noticed any changes or burn-in on your OLED display? iPhone LCD displays should not have this issue, so it should only affect iPhone X, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max if you have it at all. Thanks for watching!

I had the ghosting on my Iphone Xs about 6 months ago, which was bad enough that I could see several desktop icons. I posted on your Instagram a question about it. My Apple 1 year warranty was a week from being out, and I took it in and they determined it to be a bad screen, and replaced it at no cost. Just after that an Ios update came out that drops my screen brightness down every night and I believe that will help it not ghosting again.

I haven’t seen any signs of burn-in either on my Series 6 Apple Watch from when it was New in 2020, but then I haven’t always been using its ‘always on’ display function so as to conserve battery power. I have a question about the battery health. I have an iPhone X that I had bought a year ago last February used with 99% health. Just under a year later it is now already at 86% which seems not normal. I have not updated it since I got it so it is still running iOS 12.1.1. It seems very odd for it to have dropped that much in that short amount of time. Just want to get your thoughts on this?

Burn in does not just mean ghosting and burned in Icons etc. Burn in is also "shown" with screens that get dimmer over time and become worse in color accuracy because blue subpixels are "dying" faster than red and green. Which means burn in also can be shown as a slight red or green shift. Shifting icons slightly doesn't prevent burn in. It just decreases the chance of sharper burned in lines etc. My iPhone X probably had some problems but Idk if it's thanks to burn in. When I'm dimming the Display all the way down and then show a gray picture, the screen gets darker from top to bottom and is almost black at the bottom.
@zollotech
@zollotech 4 года назад
I wouldn’t call that burn-in that is just normal OLED screen degradation over time as the green pixels get dimmer and lighting changes.
@Raja995mh33

Most of the used oled phones (on ebay, swappa) will have pretty significant burn-ins. The fact that your phone still has 90% after 2.5 years tells that it was very lightly used or it was used very carefully. 1:48 - pixel orbiting doesn't help that much.... Just let a static image with max brightness for 1-2 hours on any of your oled iphones and it will look horrible after.

That’s why even the time, signal, wifi/LTE, and battery bar blurs, moves, or disappears when you, say, switch between apps, open the multi-app viewer, and open the notification bar. It’s to avoid image retention and burn-in. The blurs behind Safari’s search bar and likes reduces screen retention too! Heck, even games nowadays have their own method of reducing screen-burn in. From moving the hud back forth (common in racing games), auto-dimming the screen, and doing its “screensaver-like” thingy (like in GTSPORT where the game hides the menu UI leaving the dynamic background to move).

Yep. LCDs are more refined and evolved compared to OLEDs. OLED are a gimmick imo. Companies wants people to think OLEDs are indefinitely better than LCDs. Yes, OLEDs displays vivid colors compared to LCDs and are power efficient but it's issues like the God awful burn in, pwm flickering that could cause headache for the user and uneven color degradation are reasons enough avoid OLEDs. I hear tons of OLED users screaming about how amazing OLEDs are and that you just have to "take care" of the displays. I shouldn't have to. That's the point. A smartphone is a tool not a baby that you have to care for 24/7. You need to watch RU-vid video on max brightness? Then you should be able to just open that up and watch the damn thing. Want to play a game for 5 hrs straight? You should be able to do that with no worries. "I can't play for 5hrs cuz the in game HUD will get burned on to the screen" shouldn't be a thing. Using the phone less frequently or having to change YOUR habits to extend your phone's life is counterintuitive.

@@dantedijon1 It is going to happen to everyone. It's just the tech. With Older LCDs, the backlight gets dimmed down as it ages, but on OLED, since every pixel consists of 3 light bulbs or 2 and a half (Pentile), each of the wear out depending on how it is used (what is being displayed).

Just display a full white background at max brightness for the first few working hours of the panel. The luminance decay is not linear but it's the most aggressive when the phone is new. I love high brightness and doing that has prevented my last three Samsung phones from getting screen burn. You're welcome! Oh, and a black background never helps, you need less contrast, not more.

I just checked on my oldest actively used OLED device, a tablet from 2015. No noticeable burn-in there. But I use it mostly for watching videos on auto brightness. So it's not prone to burn-in at all. I've used OLED smartphones for a long time. Up until I bought an LCD iPhone last year, every smartphone I had was OLED: Samsung Wave (strong burn-in on the status bar items and the home screen page indicator dots) Samsung Galaxy S4 (slight burn-in on the status bar items) Samsung Galaxy Note4 (no noticeable burn-in) Huawei P9 Plus (no noticeable burn-in) So like you said technology improved over the years and OLED is completely safe to use now on phones

Honestly I'm sure some people have burn in on their screen, but I really don't think people use their phone correctly. Screen Burn-in can be avoided by a software feature that moves static images if they stay for longer than 1 hour , Status bar for example can be moved from static position automatically every hour for about 0.3 mm on the screen and change color periodically from white to black or oposite , But manufacturers just don't want to make it
