Back when Landsdowne rd was full of real rugby people. Now its just full of social climbers who only started showing up the team started winning regularly.
this result actually did for the Lions tour of new Zealand because all the celtic nations started crowing and demanding greater representation in the Lions squad. Cue useless Scots players in the squad including Scottish tighthead Peter Wright ahead of Englands Jeff Probyn. The situation was so bad that Jason leonard had to be moved across to tight-head for the test matches..
Yeah England were "full of themselves" that day. Really? In 1993 England had fluked a one point win over France at Twickenham, and lost to Wales in Cardiff, they then lost to Ireland in this game....and finished with a good win v. Scotland. They were average at best this year...
Sorry but have to disagree massively with you there. England were overwhelming favourites going into this game. They had lost by a point in Cardiff but had beaten France and soundly beaten a very good Scottish team (which had won the Grand Slam 3 years earlier). In addition, England had won the Grand Slam both of the previous two seasons. The Irish at the time were in the Doldrums having one just one match in the previous three seasons - during which time England had lost just one. As a result of this match England had lost two that year but going into the game their record was very impressive. A look at the '93 Lions squad will confirm it - 17 English, 4 Irish which, amazingly, didn't include Simon Geoghegan who responded by skinning the players picked ahead of him the following year for the match-winning try at Twickenham. The fact that he was never selected for a Lions tour is a very sore point in Ireland...as you may have noticed! I was at the game and, as always in rugby, the fans were pleasant and fun but the English definitely expected to win...which given the form of the two teams is pretty understandable.
@@conormaloney4796 The fact that Mick Galway was picked over Tim Rodber was joke. But Geoghan should have gone. Popplewell was the only Irish player who lefts that tour with any credit and indeed was the only test player. Far too many useless Scots.
@@conormaloney4796 The BBC interviewed a young girl on Grafton Street and asked her who was going to win. She replied in a soft charming naive voice: "Ireland", much to the amusement of the reporters!!! England scored 3 points because the ref reversed a penalty and that was it. Good Times!!!!
