Irish comic and long-time favourite in his adopted homeland of Australia, Jimeoin (James Eoin Stephen Paul McKeown) in his US TV debut on “Late Night with Conan O’Brien”, 1997.
After six minutes of standup, Jimeoin talks with Conan about the strangeness of Australia and Australians.
Apologies for the video quality. This is from a VHS tape, transferred to DVD in the 00's and now converted to MKV format.

It’s nice to have a comment on here about Jimeoin doing an old routine, but looking forward to it! The number of trolls that have left smart-arse comments about him doing the same old stuff today (all deleted by me, why do they bother), had me considering blocking comments from being added but it would stop the fans leaving praise so I’ll just keep deleting and wondering how these morons have so much time on their hands and why they don’t use it for positivity. For God’s sake Bob Newhart has been doing many of HIS routines for over 60 years and fans love it!

around 5 years ago or a bit more his profile in the Irish/UK scene started to gain traction, he did some Live At The Apollo on BBC and others. He did parts of this routine but ofcourse far better as he had polished it and had his timing down perfectly by then, was a bit rushed there. Thats understandable ofcourse cuz this show was a big chance for him. 100% he has his own style, can't say that about alot of comics so fair fucks to ya Jim - keep it lit auld hand

When Conan introduced him, I thought he was going to say Jimeoin was from Australia, because he is extremely popular here, not sure if he still lives here, but is a household name down-under.
@BabyFaceBren
@BabyFaceBren 2 месяца назад
He was actually famous in Australia (where he was working as a gardener before he tried standup) before he become known in the UK. He still lives in Australia and has been an Aussie citizen for years. I used to get so many people arguing about this topic and giving me crap for calling him “Irish-Aussie” in the title that I blocked comments for a while, but as per his Wikipedia page: “Jimeoin married Catherine Arena in 2000, and they reside in Melbourne with their four children. He is a fan of Australian football team South Melbourne FC. He said in a 2009 interview that he is "not really into that nationality thing" but revealed that he supports the Australian national football (soccer) tram as well as supporting Australia in other sports, because "Ireland's shit at everything". Conan may have introduced him as Irish, instead of Australian so the audience wouldn’t be distracted from his act when he started talking, thinking “Australian? He sounds Irish!”

The footwear has been known by historians as “thong sandals” for centuries. It is because of the thin “thong” that goes between the toes and holds them on the foot. Invented by the Egyptians and popular throughout the Middle East and Asia for millennia, the Australian name is quite logical. The underwear came later, and the name comes from the resemblance to the thong part of the thong sandal so it is also logical but it means thong underwear often gets called a gee-string as well as a thong there.

As an American, I apologize for all my stupid countrymen. I don’t mean they’re all stupid, but I do apologize for the stupid ones.... so 85% of my countrymen. I was once conversing with a friend’s teenage co-worker at some company party and somehow the topic of history came up and I made some comment about the Vietnam War. The child said, “I don’t really know anything about it.” I was stunned. I said, “Do they not teach you about it in school?” “No” they replied. “So, what do they teach you in history class then?” Well, they teach us American history, a little bit about world history, like WWII, and such and then current events.” I was gob smacked. As an Aussie, it always makes me laugh when I hear an American talk about their "big fanny" or whatever, but it also reminds me of being severely punished as a kid at school (and being the 1960s, that meant being caned), when one of my teachers asked an inattentive girl in my class "what are you doing?". This has been explained many times, but once more, Jimeoin moved to Australia as a young man, before he started doing comedy. He worked on building sites and did other jobs, has lived in Australia for more of his life than anywhere else. He became an Australian citizen, married an Australian, has Australian kids and considers himself an Australian, as do I and his fellow Aussies. You sound like if you adopted a kid you'd scream at him or her every day "you are NOT one of us!!".

I hope this doesn't make your head doesn't explode (hmm, on second thoughts), but, according to Wikipedia, Jimeoin was born in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, England, so I suppose, going by your rules, he's English. Deal with that. (and John Mcevoy was never heard from again)
