Irish Signal Box Wicklow 

Sorry, I believe the box is now closed and the line converted to central control. This was from 2005 when Wicklow to Rosslare was still manual boxes.

andy elliott Not sure exactly what all the phones are in the video, but here are some educated guesses. If you freeze frame the video on the panel with all the phones, the top one is possibly a direct line to the "train dispatcher" or "movement office", not sure what the correct Irish term is, but the central control office for operatons. Or it may be a "party line" that connects all the boxes on one route. The next phone underneath with all the buttons would be the "outside line", a phone connected to the national telephone network. The phone receiver on the shelf directly below is for the fax machine. The two yellow phones to the right look like "emergency" type phones, probably one for the next adjacent signal box in each direction. Probably battery operated in case of power failure, and perhaps with a radio or microwave link in case of copper line failure. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who can confirm or deny these guesses.

You are not far wrong my friend. Normally in manual Boxes, the signal post telephones at lineside for the drivers use would have there own corresponding telephone handset in the Signalbox. If there was numerous signals controlled then they would be connected to a type of indicator panel with only one handset and a number of light indicators so the signalman would know exactly where the call was being made from.

Would them phones be connected to the Level Crossing emergency Phones

The signal box is still there same colour aerials in place but the 10th wooden slat by the window has come loose and is hanging slightly to the right. Very sad to see😓
