As the high schoole golf season continues we are fixing an old Callaway iron bore thru. I show how to get to the finished product and the specifics for installation.
Hi Jim I had my 8 repaired, when I picked it up, it had the shaft length of a wedge, After watching your instructions I took the head off my 3 iron and replaced it with the 8 iron head cut to the appropriate length. Thank you for decimating your knowledge and know-how which gave me the confidence to undertake this task. Kind regards Chris
SUPERB JOB!!!!! AN OLDER CLUBMAKER SHOWED ME ANOTHER WAY, WHATEVER THE TOP HALF OF THE HOSEL DIAMETER IS, GET THE SAME SIZE DRILL BIT AND JUST BORE IT OUT THAT LAST HALF OF THE HOSEL. A PARALLEL SHAFT WILL THEN FIT PERFECTLY. TRUE , YOU DON'T HAVE THE FACTORY SPLITS IN THE BOTTOM OF THE SHAFT, BUT IT LOOKS AND FUNCTIONS GREAT.
That is what I am planning to do. I have a set of Dyna-power and want to install modern 335 taper tip shafts. I was planning to drill out the hosel with a tapered reamer and put the 335 shaft 1-1/8or possibly 1-1/2 inches in. No idea if it will work properly but I assume given drilling the hosel that the shaft will still be seated. Question I have is how to fill that space between the bottom of the shaft and the base of the club? Epoxy? i.e without a pin.
My X18 PW club head was loose.. took it off, but I couldn't find the plastic black tips that you showed... so used a wood dowel. Seems solid so far, hopefully it lasts!
Great video! What if I have a steel shaft that has a bore thru tip and would want to fit it in a non bore thru irons. Can I just cut the tip to make it flat and insert into the iron head. Thanks!
Hi sorry i cant quite understand what your saying the name of the plastic product you use to fill with the shaft once you've used epoxy to set the clubhead. Are you saying tip pin?? Im new to refurbishment and have found your videos the best on RU-vid by a mile . Thank you from Scotland keep up the brilliant videos mate.
Great vid so thanks, I have an old set of wilson dynapower blades that I want to get refinished but chroming company want the heads off, I have done reshafting on standard glue in type clubs but have no idea how to get theses heads off, any idea??
I’m about to do a set of these very clubs for a friend of mine. Never done a through bore before. He only wants new ferrules. Is using the same shafts acceptable? Also, should the shaft end definitely be visible once finished? On his existing irons you only see the plastic plug I’m sure and not the end of the shaft. Is it possible the shaft has been inserted a fraction short?
McGolf-------when tip trimming do you allow for the bore thru making the club a bit stiffer or do you tip trim just like a non bore thru iron? thx!!!!!!
Hi Jim - have you ever installed a standard 335 or 370 shaft into a bore thru head? i.e. by drilling out the hosel? How deep would you drill and how would you fill the gap in the bore-thru without using a pin?
Looks like I have not one but two items I need to purchase to make my lob wedge a lob wedge. I didn't even think about buying some kind of plug to insert into the shaft.
Hi, have a set of x14 pro callys that i want to put the nippon 8950 in. Do i still order the designated iron shaft since nippon come pre cut lengths even though it's bore thru?
