No disrespect to Blaze Bailey, but Bruce Dickinson kills! He's showing Blaze how it's supposed to be done! It's just not the same on the studio album with Blaze on vocals. Same thing with Sign of the cross and Lord of the flies on the Death of the road tour. Bruce Dickinson is amazing!
Damn, the power of this performance is like a fine whisky to me: it gets your blood pumping and fills your heart with energy. Makes even a bloody lowlander like me - I'm from the Netherlands, it doesn't get much flatter than that - to become a Highland Clansman too.
We are all becoming Highlanders when listening to this song. No matter where you were born, if you feel the power of this masterpiece, you become a clansman!

I saw Iron Maiden for the first time in that tour. They were to headline the rockwave festival in Greece in the summer of 2000 but they cancelled (Dream Theater, with Metropolis 2, filled in the gap - perfect!!! I must say - they even closed the show with Trooper! - respect to DM). I had to travel almost 800km to see Iron.... And then, they came later that year somewhere near in the sea of Pireaus (somewhere near in the sea anyway, if I remember correctly)...And I had travelled again almost 800km of course...I was 18, and as I listen to this , and the whole Rock in Rio, the tears still dropping...UP THE IRONS!!!

When I listen to this version of "The clansman" I feel an unstoppable and invincinble power running through me and I imagine myself running and fighting with William Wallace. Unspeakable. A religious and mystical experience. A unsurpassed version of this masterpiece of my most beloved band ever. 🇬🇧🇬🇧

It may be about the freedom of the Scot's, but this is also so very true of todays powers that be and the masses. The USA founding fathers fought for those very freedoms, but we are the least free country in the world today. As to Iron Maiden not aging, I met the band backstage in Nashville, TN USA in '84. No drugs, no groupies. There was a barrel of iced down beer, but only a few were drinking. Most were drinking water. Whole topic of conversation was music, gear, and time away from families when on tour overseas.
Epic awesomeness. Flawless, effortless... pure music craftsmanship. If any day there would be a music band live performance textbook... well this would be it. Kids, watch and learn how it's done.
