The All-Clad skillet is a legendary piece of cooking equipment. Valued for it's durability, consistency, and brand reliability, there's a reason these pans have so much acclaim. But is the All-Clad D5 skillet the right pan for you?
In this video, I do my best to showcase the important features, the pan's pros and cons, and also touch on who I think should be buying a pan like this. Hope it helps! If you found any value or there's another question you'd like answered about this pan, I do my best to answer every comment. Thanks!
Happy eating,
Ajay

If you live near a T.J. Maxx, Marshalls, or HomeGoods you can get All-Clad pans for close to half price. Often, they get further marked down if they haven't sold in a month. The red tag markdown can be almost half the price of the T.J. Maxx price. I've acquired more than a dozen pieces at red tag that cost me about a fourth of the cost of new. Most all of them with lids. The same goes for Le Creuset dutch ovens and skillets as well. FYI: Lodge glass lids fit quite well on the All-Clad "frying" pans.

@@TheCultureofCookery For us living in Vancouver, HomeSense is the spot. Specifically the one in Cambie Village, upstairs with the entrance off West 8th. I've seen All-Clad sauce pans and frying pans there more than a few times. I also purchased my Le Creuset dutch oven from that exact spot, half the price you'd pay at The Bay or Gourmet Warehouse.

Went to the all-clad factory sale around christmas time and picked up 10 a 10 piece d5 set for $600. Well worth the money and I'm only just getting started using them.

I'm currently coping with my purchase by trawling around and watching reviews and such, I just purchased this exact pan ($150). I have to be honest, one of the deciding factors for me when picking the D5 was the brushed stainless look, I'm so much more about that vibe over polished. Petty? Maybe, but I want it to look good if I'm paying this much for a pan, dang it! Dig the channel! Surprised that you only have ~3K subs! Let me be another +1 for ya!

Thank you! Someone else that thinks like me! 😅 I have to say the lack of a lid is a bit of a downer, but still great all in all!

Hey bro, shoutout from Vancouver! I'm also living in Van. Not a pro chef, but a home "chef" and looking at buying an All-Clad, so found this video. Very helpful and informative thanks so much.

Once you cook with it, you'll understand why it's worth the money. Second, it lasts a life time - so if you add all the money from pans you buy and throw over the yrs, it truly is worth it.

You should also mention there is an All-Clad D3 line. They have three layers instead of five and cost considerably less. I bought a full set of All-Clad pots and pans back in 2000 and they are all cooking just fine to this day. One other thing, you can pick up a 10" D3 with lid for around $100.

Good point! Yeah, according to America's Test Kitchen, there doesn't seem to be much of a difference in performance between D3 and D5. I just liked the brushed steel haha

Yes, it's sad that All Clad does not include a lid for this price. However, if you have a 10-inch lid from another pot or pan, it should work with this pan.

Good point! In a way it's nice not to have more lids to store 🤷🏻‍♂️

Awesome video! Is it normal for these pans to get scratched up a bit? I have some cheaper stainless steel ones that are pretty scratched up - i guess from using metal utensils and a heavy duty scrubber. My understanding is that's normal and harmless but I'm curious if the same happens on a pricier all clad pan.

All clad will scratch as well, they are stainless steel in the end.

It's a Great Price. Especially if you take into consideration that that pan will last you the rest of your life if taken care of. You can't say that for a 60 to 200 dollar Teflon pan. Treat it like cast iron and that pan will be around forever.

There are plenty of quality Clad Stainless Steel cookware options on the market that are half the price of D5 All Clad line and do exactly the same thing. Paying full retail price is sorta crazy in 2024 when store's like Home Goods, TJ Maxx, Marshalls & Ross exist where savings are 35-65%... $200 for one pan is outrageous especially without a lid...there are 10pc Sets of Clad Stainless Steel Cookware Available for that Amount @ Sam's Club and Costco

With this is it true you have to keep them “seasoned” that if you burn something or it sticks you can ruin the pan easily?
@TheCultureofCookery
@TheCultureofCookery 2 месяца назад
Good question! There's some debate over this - you could check out Tom Wade's video on all clad pans if you want more info. I've never seasoned mine, and as long as we heat the pan properly before cooking we haven't had problems with sticking. That said, we have burnt/had food stick before, but we've been able to clean it out using some Barkeeper's Friend and the pan was good as new. Hope that helps!
