Hey Josh. Quick safety tip. Never touch your PTO with the engine running. It only takes a few seconds to turn off that engine, connect the PTO and start up again. The arms you save may be your own.

The very first vehicle I ever drove was a 1975 MF135. I was 8yrs old and my friends dad, who owned the farm, asked if I could drive. I said no so he said in less than an hour I’ll have you driving and operating the bail grab to stack bails. That summer of 1975 was just magical for a 8yr old ex city boy. By the end of that harvest I’d driven the MF135, MF165, MF575 and ended on a huge MF4880 4WD monster. At least it looked huge back in 78 to an 8yr old. I’ll never forget those times in 1978/79 Wish I could do it over again.

Good Stuff- just bought an old 75 MF165 today… So excited to get out there & start plowing & filling up a future garden. Actually have several more projects to do before I get to that point, but we have a few acres that’s not being properly utilized, the tractor will allow me to work the land much more efficiently.

My grandfather, a WW2 veteran who survived the sinking of the USS INDIANAPOLIS, came home and was given 72 acres of land by the state of North Carolina, with an old cabin on it to farm. He had 6 different tractors on it...one an old steel steam tractor....but he had just like yours only a bit older...and old 60s model Ford blue one was probably his newest one that he traded stuff for....when I saw your tractor, it reminded me of memories when I was young kid....as I got older, us grandsons spent our summers helping run the farm, especially harvest time...the things I learned on the farm helped me in my own 23 year Marine Corps career....thanks for the videos...farming is a "lost art"... but our President is gonna change that with the deregulations...thanks again...

Hi we usually plow then let it sitt for a week. Or so and plow again and plant.whatever grass or weeds you have there after you plow once they will try hard to survive and comeback but when you get them the second time they have a much harder time coming back.just sharing our way.all the best.

Always do left arm first, then right arm cause it's adjustable, then the top link, PTO last.

Josh ! Here comes JC's safety tip---> Never hook up a PTO shaft with the tractor engine running. Sometimes it may be half engaged and the slightest rotation will put it in power rotation. In other words, You dont want to be sucked into a machine.
@TheDIADUIT
@TheDIADUIT 5 лет назад
you have pto shaft working on machine,without any safety guards, to prevent anyone getting caught in it when its spinning, and when you were attaching the rotavater you should attach the lower arms first, not the top link, and you were in too high a gear, when you were using it in field, you need to slow down on your passes,

I purchased a 3 point tiller several weeks ago and worked our garden already. It took longer to hook it to the tractor than to till it! Saves a lot of time and hard work. I purchased the tiller used, a Landpride RTR 2570, it’s 70” wide, reverse rotation, weighs 874 lbs. It works my Ford 3600 diesel a bit but it all works well together. The tiller was on my list to buy for years, glad I finally got one!

You need to attach the lower links first. One side first, then move the tractor forward or back and adjust the lift up or down to attach the other side lower link, then use the lift for adjustment to attach the upper link. Believe me, after 50 years of hooking up implements to tractors, this is the easy way, and the way that Harry Ferguson meant it to be. PTO shaft last without the engine running. You need a guard over that shaft as well. Get your shorts or trousers hooked up in that shaft and you can count the 540 RPM's yourself.

I also have a 5 foot Muratori tiller and it works great. In the fall, I brush hog the tall foliage in the garden and then till it in, pulling an 8 foot cultipacker behind it. That gives all winter for the vegetation to decompose and be ready for spring planting.
@mattschwartz915

Nice video. I have a 1967 MF 135 and run a 6 ft tiller with it. Great tractor. Many parts available since they were so popular back in the 60's and 70's. It works hard to run the tiller in virgin ground but in worked ground its effortless. Mine has the gas engine. I wish it had the diesel. Can't beat the sound and smell of an old diesel tractor. I agree, the tractor and tiller are a great investment. I used to till our garden but stopped because of the hard pan created by the tiller. Our soil is pretty high in clay content and a couple runs of the tiller would create a hard pan so hard I could barely get a shovel through it. In 2018 we changed to permanent beds and a no-till plan. I set up the beds in rows so I can still drive the tractor in on the aisle ways to tilth the beds with the tiller. Tilthing is really just tilling but only about 2 inches deep. Most "no-till" farmers tilth in one way or another. It doesn't create the hard pan that deep tilling or plowing does. And it doesn't kill as many earth worms. We put weed fabric mulch over the beds and walk ways. We don't use any herbicides and the weeds have been suppressed 95%. Heavy duty reusable weed fabric is also a great investment. It's worked great for us this year. I still use the tiller for my deer food plots. It works great for preparing the seed bed and also for tilling in those seeds that like to be deeper. Follow up the seeding with a 6 ft cultipacker and I have very nice results. I keep an eye on soil compaction in the food plots. I have a single row subsoiler that I put on the MF 135 and it does a great job of breaking the hard pan.

try hooking up two point arms first then three point arm, then the pto. you can lift arm or lower so the third link will line up. Think about large implements where you are unable to move implement by hand, it has to be all done with the tractor on larger implements.

I used to change the implements on my dad's Massey Ferguson all the time by myself when I was a kid. Those through pins are easy like the ones on my dad's box scraper. His Howard tiller had rigid pins and we had to move the lift arms sideways to attach them. Push two buttons on the drive shaft and slide it onto the PTO shaft. His Bush hog only had one button on the drive shaft. 😀 I miss his old tractors. I had a New Holland for a while with a bush hog and rototiller but the Newholland turned out to be a piece of junk. I ended up selling it all it was not paying for itself. I love the two stage clutch on most farming equipment. I ran a hay baler on a small 9N tractor one Summer and you had to leave the tractor in neutral while you put the hay baler in gear and get it going and then with the flywheel keeping that going for a seconds you could put the tractor in gear and start moving. What a pain. I love old equipment from the 40s 50s and 60s and 70s.

That little feller will handle a 6 foot bush hog. I also suggest getting a 2 bottom with 16" plows (not 14"). It will pu;ll 3 bottom plow. I learned to plow on a 135 (Still have it) and a 7 foot lift type disk. With the 2 stage clutch on that tractor, I would lower the implement almost to the ground, engage the PTO so that the U Joints won't ratttle.

I like the videos. Suggestion on hooking up the 3pt hitch and PTO. Start with the lift arms, then top link and like you did the PTO shaft last. Once lift arms are connected the top link is simple just lift or lower to line it up. I usually start with the lowest lift arms first then left for the second. Maybe that will make it a bit easier. I am sure it was very nice to have Mrs. Stoneyridge help guide the lift arms.

Hey stoney ridge farmer just some friendly tips when u hook up a tiller or any other tool on the back of a tractor always hook your lower hitch arms on 1st then your top link and unhook your top 1st and lower hitch arms last that way u have control over your implement using the hydraulics of the tractor to help get your pins in or out and please next time u hook up a tiller make sure your lovey wife doesn't come from behind or stand between implement and tractor to hook up they can fall forward or back quite easy just simple things the old man drummed into me that keeped me safe over the years hope it can for you to all the best and keep the videos coming I enjoy watching them

John, I tend to disagree. What works best for me is to hook up top link first and with the tractor in neutral use the turnbuckle to move the tractor forward or back to align the bottom two links. And I never attach any of them with the tractor running. I friend of mine lost an arm attaching a pto shaft when the pto wasn't engaged until he tried to hook it up, but that's a different story.

Totally agree with Lazy. I've been hooking up and unhooking implements since I was a teenager on our two Cane farms in Queensland Australia, and i'm 52 now and that's how we did it. Except we would ensure the tractor was in the center and at least one lifting arm was spot on, put in the pin hook up the center bar and wind the center bar in or out to line up the other lift arm however the park brake was always on this enabled the implement only to move back and forward. Sad about some of those older Massey Fergusons was the dry disc brakes hopeless.The newer 168,185 and 188 all had oil disc brakes. The multi power was good but in low it would not hold on down hill runs so you could not use a rotary hoe in low on the multi power. There were a few scary moments for people hauling harvested sugar cane with over 8 tons pushing them you quickly learned not to use the multi power in low going down hill.

Yep ,& then you can jockey around a bit .I was hooking up mowers ,trailers ,discs ,graders when l was 12 years old.by the amount of smoke that was puffing ,could have used a lower gear.Only a 35 Horse tractor Now

Nice Massey, and another great video! We have a 1964 MF65, I have some videos of it on my channel mainly plowing and snow blowing, but we are looking for a rotoriller for our field because we let someone borrow our plows and my Father thinks we can skip the ploughing and just use a rototiller because we a derocked the field a few times way back when.

you need an adjustable top link. hook the bottom links first, then adjust the top link as needed to hook it, then adjust your implement's angle.

When hooking a 3point hitch the easy way is to hook the 2 lift arms first then the top link then the pto shaft

My granddaddy had a 1951(I think) Ferguson (before Massey and Ferguson got together) when he sold it(it's been at least 15 year's ago) it still plowed his garden and bush hogged like a champ

I grew up with Massey Ferguson's My dad had a 35 , 65 , 135, 165, 175, 255, 265, 275, 285, 461 , 471 Massey Ferguson. Before the Massey Ferguson's my dad owned a Allis Chamber and a 9N Ford. I have 3 brothers that has Massey Ferguson's a 35 MF , 451 MF , 471 MF. I have a 539 IMT it the the same as a 35 MF I own it for 13 yrs , rebuilt the 3 cly Diesel engine a year after owning it, I have a little over 2,500 hrs on it now. It's great on fuel efficiency in light work it uses 3/4 gal per hr. such raking hay or using a sickle bar mower, doing heavy load work such as Bushhogging and plowing it will use 1 1/4 gal. These old 135 Massey Ferguson's are great tractors they are good for many different uses.

Your soil looks pretty good. My garden has been planted since Good Friday. So far everything looks good and finally got some rain. My sweet corn is about a foot tall and tomatoes about 2 foot with a few small tomatoes. Zucchini and squash have blooms. Cantaloupes are kinda slow but now with the warmer weather and the rain should start to take off. Purple hull peas and sweet peas doing really well.

I was a massey Fergus dealer from 1986 till 2002 the 135 massey was with a doubt the best tractor massey ever built I kept one when I sold the business I plan on doing a complete restoration on it soon that tractor will give you years of trouble free service !!! The engine is a perkins AD3 "152" there where thousands of those engines build over a span of 50 years and are still built today they where used in welders and generators all over the world ! Always change the hydraulic/transmission fluid at least once per year
