GM dropped a bomb on the Full-size truck market by dropping a 2.7 Liter turbocharged 4 cylinder engine in 2019 Silverado LT and RST trims. This is my review on the engine and I have to say. It's not what I expected. A 4 cylinder Silverado may be in your future.

@@craigholcombe1901 I just bought a new 2022 Silverado 1500 Custom 2.7 in January and I got to use the mother in-laws GM discount and paid $ 34k for it and the sticker was not quite $ 42k and it runs like a champ with plenty of power and I compare it with the 2014 F 150 I had that had the 3.5 Ecoboost 6 banger in it, even though the Ford had 50 more HP. Of course it is to early to tell how long the motors will last, but the 2.7 does not struggle at all, in fact it does not even work hard pushing the truck down the road without a load. I have had cars with undersized motors in the past, and this is not one of them and I think people automatically think more pistons means more power and that is not the case.

Whoever said GM can't make 4 cylinders has lost his or her mind. I build high HP engines for a living. In order to get more power you can add more cylinder, bigger cylinders or stuff more air in the same cylinder. The first two are good options for longevity...the last one is not. I don't care what Chevy says...adding a turbo is a terrible idea in a truck that's expected to actually "work". I can't wait to see some of these trucks once they hit the 120k mark or so. Whereas I've had 5.3's last 250+k I highly doubt you'll see the same thing from these little turbos. These are meant to last for the duration of the original owner who will buy then sell before 100k. The USED market will see the brunt of the issues for sure in this truck.

The only way I'd got for a it is if it were an opposed piston engine...bigger more efficient pistons no valve train, simple design (dual cranks geared to a single flywheel). Heavier duty than a normal turbo gas engine. This engine comparatively has an extremely complex valve train, complex design and puts more stress on a single crank as well as having an excessively complex turbo system.

GM just announced that they will be making the 6.2L available in the LT and RST trims, as well as the Trail Boss starting next year. I'm really excited to hear that news, since I always believed that you shouldn't have to pay through the nose for an LTZ or High Country if you want the 6.2 in a Silverado. The LT 6.2 will start at just over $43k, according to the article I read. 🙂
@amprg

Something that people forget when they fall in love with 6.2L is type of gas. That monster is thirsty 91 octane. Unless you really need heavy tow, it's not worth it for daily commute.

@diacom496
@diacom496 5 лет назад
@@amprg I'm not saying you can't tow with the 6.2, just that it wasn't put into 1500 series as a towing motor, otherwise it would also have been offered into the higher series trucks. The design of the 6.2 does not promote it as a long term tow motor, like the 6.0 does. This is why GM did not push it as such and put it in the 2500 or 3500.

A lot of these companies are in it for the short run. They don't seem to care very much about the Integrity of their product other than avoiding recalls and complaints. I'm not saying they don't care at all about their products but they could definitely do more to make them last longer. Ultimately if their products last longer they'll probably make less money off of sales.

Chevy dude. Another thing for you to understand. The 5.3 tq curve is very flat. Sure max tq is at 4 to 5k rpm but it starts well over 200 at 2k rpm and rises fast. Tq curves is just as important especially in trucks.

Technology has come a long way and smaller displacemen motors are now packing a pretty good punch. By the way, the 2.7 can do 0 to 60 in 6.4 seconds.
@thatmarred_mustang
@thatmarred_mustang 5 лет назад
The technology has been around for a while. Rally cars have 600hp turbo 4 cylinders, and go from 0-60 1.9 seconds. But they do not last long at all, because of the stress that has to be put onto the smaller engines. Like, the rally cars engines have to be rebuilt after every race.
@elche1976
@elche1976 2 года назад
@Bronco Burgess your average driver doesn't kill the engine as rally car drivers do. If they do, they also deserve to suffer the consequences of a destroyed engine. Abuse anything and it won't stand.

@@elche1976 The turbo 4-cylinder Volkswagen in our family has had its share of issues and has burned a lot of oil for years, turns the oil black quickly, etc. The difference in the oil analysis reports between that and my normally aspirated Mazda were pretty dramatic. I wish Chevy would go back in the archives and raise that Chevy spirit back up where it belongs. I have a 94' K1500 and I love it. "Like A Rock" - I miss those days. Still a very good truck I'm sure.
