Anime isn’t even a genre, it’s a medium

It's like asking, "Are books gay?" "Is music gay?" "Is cooking gay?" The answer is "Which one?" Some definitely are. Some definitely are not. But Matt is just messing around looking for a reaction, because he knows he can get one super easy. It's just deadpan humor.

Most of my friends can go from talking about Neon Genesis Evangelion to philosophy and theology. Some anime is actually pretty interesting, entertaining, and funny, but like western media you also have trash. Overall there’s a reason why people are moving away from woke western comics, shows, and movies to manga or or anime. Don’t knock anime as a medium. It’s full of many different genres and has a lot of potential among those on the right. Anime is just an adaptation of western animation, so I consider it fair game >:)

My favorite episode of the Simpsons is when Homer bought a sax for Lisa. Saxamaphone was great because it had a perfect balance of humor and sweetness. Homer at his best is an endearing character who clearly loves his family. Great episode

Is cinema gay? Depends on the movie. Is anime gay? Depends on the show. There are so many different kinds of anime that it doesn't make sense to generalise.

I think the most dangerous thing with anime is that you have a whole variety of genres (some not safe for childre) that are still animated like the ones that are safe. So you have a situation where it is very easy for children to get exposed to adult content, if they and their parents are not warned of this. Each individual show needs to be previewed in my opinion

The original premise is off. Matt never equated Anime to being gay, he equated it to being Satanic. Moreover, Matt went further by clarifying that he had no real basis/context for saying so, but just felt that anime was Satanic, and that adults in general had no reason/purpose to be watching cartoons in any fashion except in very few/specific circumstances. The context is not very prone to suggesting a troll as Seamus alludes to, as Matt's reasoning is much more thought out (a simple troll would be if Matt just said "Anime is Satanic" and that's it; the fact that he went on to explain why suggests it's not a troll). Putting aside the troll vs serious debate, it's clear Matt has minimal if no context on Anime, his opinions on the matter are relatively poor and should not be paid attention to. The problem is, given his platform and popularity, his fans have a tendency to flock to his defense and "yes-man" his arguments, whatever he says. When Fradd says "it doesn't mean you have to go along with everything [Matt Walsh] says" sounds great, but this is 2023 where social media (Twitter) is a thing, and Matt Walsh has been very clear that part of his messaging is to rile up the base into aggressive action (he's not interested in reasonable dialogue, he's not interested in debates/niceties, he's interested in being firm and in your face to cater to the base) and that stokes a very specific reaction from the people who follow him. His large following will, and often does, come to agree with him, regardless of what he says, without thinking if it's good or bad, it's just about supporting him because the alternative is the fringe, destructive opposition we see from the Left. It's a stark, and pretty scary dichotomy that is offered by that frame of logic (if you doubt me, Matt recently went to Twitter saying any so-called conservatives who don't support his views on key issues are 100% useless and should be cast aside, which is ironic given how he's often lambasted people like Trump for being too divisive and unsavory for independent voters). It's one of the reasons I don't subscribe to the Daily Wire.

SpongeBob used to be a subtle nuanced sophisticated humor, which quickly turned into gag jokes and slapstick comedy. I think a lot of these shows declining in quality has more to do with bad writing then a social commentary about the state of things. Look at Rick and Morty, family, Guy, South Park, there are still great animation shows being produced.

Lol,as a Catholic Otaku,anime isn't inherently gay,exist in Japanese manga industry its very "progressive",so the niche market for gay romance it's big(called Yayoi(Gay)and Yuri(Lesbian) especificaly),but mainstream anime don't have much homossexual stuff. Manga/Anime infustry has bigger moral problems that "gay" stuff,like rampant and popular pornography,(177013, it's very popular and despite myth this is "fucked up",the manga its tane compared to truly horrible hentai)"fanservice" shows,low pay and overwork for animators and mangaka,etc... But you can be a anime/manga fan without being in contact with "bad" stuff of anime,but to truly be a fan you need to learn lots of stuff and be really dedicate,like having a opnion about certain topics to give a example "Kana Arima it's the waifu of the season","Demon Slayer it's overrated" and be able to hold your manga in debates,because Fans aren't going to think you are really a anime fan,until you have quite a few titles that aren't mainstream(DB,Naruto, Demon Slayer,Attack on Titan,My Hero Academia are example of mainstream) and least knew famous titles among anime fans(Higurashi,Madoka Magica,Monogatari,JoJo,Haruhi Suzumiya,Evangelion,Kill la Kill, Stein's Gate,etc ...)

I love anime! Sure, there's some pretty awful stuff in some animes, but that's the same for any genre of TV or animation. There's some pretty great animes out there. Like SpyxFamily. Hecka wholesome that portrays good family values while still having that action in there. I genuinely think Matt Walsh would like it if he were to just give it a chance!

I went to an Archdiocesan Youth Conference in Houston once, and me and my church were the people from way out in the country, and when we got there part of the hotel we were staying at was also being booked by an anime convention. So there we were, a bunch of normal Catholic country kids walking around next to these guys with green hair and leotards and bikinis and whatnot. I felt like Crocodile Dundee.

Wouldn't go so far to say 1-10, but Simpsons 1-8 is up there imo with Seinfeld and Twilight Zone as the greatest show of all time. Maybe Fraiser is up there for its consistency. Also, Malcom in the Middle maybe. My all time favorite tv episode is Bart Gets an F from Season 2, and my original avatar was from the Bart Sells His Soul episode. Both had him praying. And then made my own with a stuffed animal I got from a school sale taping the hands together for prayer and stacking pillows to look like a bed. The only anime I could get into were Dragon Ball and Death Note (watching in Japanese), and I liked video game series Metal Gear Solid (anyone thinking of MGS2 lately with the information warfare?), Devil May Cry, and Tekken, but I loved Dragon Ball despite certain aspects like the pervy stuff early on. I have the manga, Japanese Dragon Boxes, blu rays, video games, and bought figuarts figures. I put weights in my backpack, punched with dumbbells, and still jog every day originally being inspired by Son Goku. He was a cheerful, determined train smarter not harder character who was grateful and happy using his gifts to the best of his ability pushing his limits and excited for others to achieve their potential. Even though, he had his prideful selfishness, the narrative didn't make it out like he was a virtuous beacon, and he was honest with himself being selfish. By the way, Happy Goku Day for those who celebrated yesterday! If anyone got mad listening to Matt Walsh speak, hopefully it helped you turn Super Saiyan. jk God bless you all. As an anime watcher currently on a break from it, I've seen great anime and abhorrent anime but I think just with any medium pray and know your boundaries. On another note, Ranking of Kings is a good watch. Highly recommend

Love what Seamus said about King of the Hill and the Simpsons. I forgot how good King of the Hill is, and old-school Simpsons had value. Homer was a dolt in the old seasons, but he was a flawed dad who still wanted to do the right thing. He didn't always get it right, but he was never as moronic or malicious as he can be written now.

Anime is a medium, not a genre. Just as novels, TV, movies and comics are art mediums with multiple genres, anime is the same.

Anime has way bigger problems than just being gay sometimes (the abusive workload going on in the production and the sexualization of young girls in many shows, to name a couple) but overall "anime" is just a medium, same as western cartoons. To dismiss it, for a simple reaction no less, is honestly rude and unfair, and dismisses the legendary works of Studio Ghibli, Osamu Tezuka, Mamoru Hosoda, and plenty more

When I was little the first anime I saw was the Original Dragon Ball series and I didn’t want anime again until I was a teenage and watched Cowboy Bebop.

I feel the same way about the show Daria. It is very easy to write two-dimensional characters to hate on that show but everybody had a chance to have depth and really shine. I legitimately can't think of one single person who I hated on that show. Yes Daria the character is incredibly sarcastic in a bit of a killjoy but she's also sensitive and funny and really observant in an acerbic way. I love that for me. I don't mind being called the black Daria.

Currently watching Vinland Saga, I can tell you it has better values, teaching about courage, honor, love for your enemies, more than basically anything produced in America.

Anime is like American television. There is A LOT of stuff. Some of it is going to be good, some of it is going to be bad, a lot of it is going to be somewhere in the middle. So, you can't really make a universal judgement of the whole thing. You have to take it on a case by case basis.

I watch a good bit of anime and generally speaking it is way less work than what American and other western places are producing in the animation realm. Good values are values are taught in some of them and many anime’s are a great at epic storytelling

My very short answer for anime 'if it's g&y' is no. My long answer is that 5% of the fans make it g&y. I love anime because it's entertainment that isn't a soap box political piece, and they don't shove agenda crap down your throat like today's American entertainment. now there is a very small handful of animes that has a little g&y stuff. but at the end of the day, talented artists and animators are just trying to bring quality entertainment and make money.

If there is an anime that is implicitly right wing, it's Attack on Titan. If there's any anime that has themes of romance that are actually executed well, a few examples would be, Kaguya-sama: Love is War, Don't Toy with Me, Miss Nagatoro!, Tomo-chan is a Girl! (Yes I know a lot of these end in exclamation marks), My Dress Up Darling (has semen retention wisdom in it, surprisingly), and Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out! Any anime that is slice of life would be Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid. There's plenty of these anime that aren't that bad. It's just the porn (hentai) you gotta stay away from.

Either Matt Walsh is just trolling or he actually believes what he's saying. Either one is foolish and wrong and doesn't really solve anything. Is most animation in the west junk? Yes. Even good animation over here is limited by the fact that,for the most part, only comedic stuff is allowed to be for adults. Over the years the Disney style has destroyed the potential of what the medium can be. By getting people used to the idea that cartoons are only for children. Is a lot of anime great? No it's not. Having watched a lot of it since the 70's most of it is just for kids. Granted they don't treat their kids as idiots,which is why shows like One Piece and Fist Of The Northstar are more interesting than say,The Super Friends,but those are still shows for kids. Shonen shows as they would be called. But there is anime that goes far beyond anything that's been done here. Takahata's Grave Of The Fireflies,Mamou Oshii's Patlabor 2,Gainax's The Royal Space Force or Otaku No Video or Night On The Galactic Railroad. These and others go far beyond what even Pixar does and really shows that animation can be as good,if not better,than live action. As a Christian I've been very impressed with some of those works that have been made by the east. If Matt thinks that is for children he's simply a fool who doesn't know,or care to know,any better. Even Tolkien and C.S. Lewis said to think like an adult,use your adult wisdom and experience. Be responsible ECT. But they also said to not forget your childlike innocence and spirit of wonder. Would Matt say that Lord Of The Rings is for children? If so Tolkien would probably be proud to hear it.
