I just got mine 2 weeks ago, same year, ES version. I was previously riding a 2001 honda hornet for 4 years doing 40k kms with it. Everything changed. Everything. I have a strong feeling that I made a very solid choice, the ST is a marvelous motorcycle, tremendously underrated. The weight has never been an issue (I'm 6 f 4). I'm so happy.

@@professorvoluck9311 Fantastic, mate. Welcome to our little heaven on two wheels! Don’t even bother with de the Normal mode: only Sport mode everytime, everywhere, especially on dirt roads. Use different combinations of suspension; you’ll easily find your favorites guns. You must add a skid plate (OMC’s perfect for the job), crash bars and I changed the windshield for the higher version. Used to be a pavement addict. Now, with my ST, it’s « the more gravel and dirt, the better » which is spectacular for such a big beast. Yamaha all the way!

29k great miles on my 2013 Super T (as I call her), and it's still the best touring machine I've ever owned (R1150RT, K100RT, R100RT included). What many don't comment about is it's two-up capabilities and comfort, which are top notch. I routinely take her up thru the forest service roads in Boone and Asheville, NC without hesitation or issues. Additionally, I've done 750 mile days from S.C. to N.J. via interstate without needing a masseuse afterward. For the money (purchased new in 2016 for $11.5k) it's by far the best value I've had for a machine that takes wife and I almost anywhere most people can go. Just keep out of the mud, sand and heavy gravel.

I have had many bikes of all genres' and brands over the years and my ST has been one of the most enjoyable. I still have a garage full of all different types including a Goldwing and the TS is the one that gets ridden the most. I don't worry about what turn I take or how the road develops on that bike. If I want to do single track I have a road legal XR400 or a KLR650 for that, although I have seen the youtube videos of guys doing it on a ST with the right tires. Got it for a great end of year price as well.

My first track day was on a Super Tenere "T.S" lol. It will definitely hold it's own in the Twisties. It's more of a touring bike that can do some easy dirt back roads. Excellent bike and definitely underrated because it sits in the shadow of the BMW GS and Triumph Tiger.

The SUPER T, S10, T12, XT1200, Super Tenere... whatever you wanna call it, is way more capable off-road than people give it credit for. You won't be jumping it through crazy single tracks... but it'll go most places people actually end up riding. I've gone off road quite a bit with mine, and yeah it's heavy, but there's a benefit to its girth - it doesn't lay all the way over like a narrower bike. If it's on its side (with crash bars), it's more at an angle and really isn't that difficult to pick up. The only hard time I've had was in nasty mud. I think it really is the most underrated adv bike out there... but this leads to great prices in the used market ;)
@Bertuslouw76
@Bertuslouw76 3 года назад
It all depends on how you will use your bike. I’ve ridden both the 700 Tenere and Super Tenere and feel that I like the Super Tenere better for my use. The 700 Tenere is lighter, more agile and manoeuvrable than the Super Tenere , but lacks overtaking power at highway speeds. You are also burdened with frequent drive chain maintenance on the 700, compared to the low maintenance differential of the Super Tenere.

It's crazy how in some of the car shots you can literally see the slight wallowing of the tires on the T7 as Yams is cruising down the highway. It shows the importance of the tires you put on your bike based on what you actually plan to do with it.

The stock tires the T7 comes with are pretty good for on road and decent for light off-road. The seat could maybe use an upgrade for long rides and maybe a little more wind protection and cruise control. The TS is a good road bike but a really big bike for off-road unless you are a really good rider that can handle it.

I have shop full of motorcycles from a E900 Ducati Elefant to a Honda XL 125. My daily rides are a 2013 1200 XTZ Super Tenere and an 06 KLR 650 hot rodded up to 685cc's, balanced ported etc... (but carbed) Your assesments are right on the money. I have done long touring on both the S10 and the KLR. But, I have modified my KLR so much it's the most comfortable bike I own, if not running Interstate Highways all day. The Tenere is perfect for running 80+ ish all day. Been across the USA on both several times. TAT, Continental Divide, done the Dragon on both several times too. The Yammy's fuel injection is perfect for altitude adjustments. But that KLR is just a cockroach that just won't die.(150K) Plus, I am not intimidated pulling it's crank out and replacing everything in that engine. (Yeah, been there done that) I have considered getting a Tenere 700 to replace both and have a pretty good compromise of both worlds. But, mine all my bikes are paid for, and don't owe me anything. A 700 cc bike will do ADV cross country touring just fine. But a 1200 cc macine does it so much better. Especially if you are on more roads than off pavement!

For my riding the SuperTen (TS) is perfect. It handles curvy mountain roads in California, fast enough for me. It's super on goaty, one lane, tight, twisty roads with steep hairpins. The T mode is best for wash boarded dirt roads and heavy city traffic. otherwise S mode always. It's super well balanced filtering through city and freeway traffic jams. I've got the Dunlop Trailmax Mission tires--more confidence on dirt roads and sticks to pavement really well too, once the front tire is broken in a bit.

See my philosophy on bikes has become...since most bikes can actually perform most tasks on the road (and you can't actually reach the limits of performance of anything above 650 on the road), if you are actually just going to ride on the road then comfort should be top priority. The T1200 and T700 will pretty much get you to the same places - why not get a used 1200 over a new 700 so you can ride further in more comfort?

Not a criticism, just my personal response. It's horses for courses. If you your highway , especially with pillion, then t12. If you ride twisters and commute where it's legal to split lanes then t7.

Have a 2019 super ten would love a t7 but I don't know if I could get rid of the super ten for the less horses of the 700.I need both but couldn't afford both.

stand on my super ten, or TS to Chase through the twisties thats the fun part. Winglets are removable on during winter/cool months off during the heat to get some air in.

I would like several bikes. The T7 would be great if i was planning dirt, the "TS" would be better for the journey you did, though the shaft drive would be better for real adventuring. Personally I would go for a Versys, Tiger or BMW as an ADV as I think they split the difference better.

Both bikes are awesome....they both win, but I'm definitely choosing the Yamaha "TS" for big road trips with occasional light offroad adventures :)

Great video! I do wish you'd traded bikes for a bit. I've owned my "TS" XTZ1200ES for 5 weeks and 3,000 miles. I like it much, great bike for a big, tall rider (6'4", 250#) after a few mods. T7 would be great if I had dirt to ride nearby.

Great on street, but more than 2%, where Adam Sandoval did the TAT on the Africa Twin is where it most likely goes down. I'd have some small chance of picking the T7 up after a long nap, with the Super you would find my dry corpse leaning up a against a tree giving the finger to the bike. Toss them on the ground after a long ride, and no Monkey business.

I recently bought a "TS" knowing the market is flush with nice kitted used ones in light of the T7. It fits well with my little TW200 that I can use as an around town alternative. Now to score an MT10...

I was surprised on how much the T7 wobble from those camera car shots. Is it just too light for that speed and tires on that road? I was thinking of getting a T7 eventually for touring and light offroad.

Dirt tires weave a little. Tall front ended bikes weave a little. It’s just the nature of it

I just picked up a t7 a couple weeks back. Got a 250 mile road ride in last weekend. Bike felt super stable up to 90 mph with no weave. This was on stock tires. Riding an 80% off road tire on the highway is gonna make any bike feel like crap. The t7 with stock tires feels every bit as fun on the road as the ninja 650 I switched from. It also kills my old klr 650 off road.

I'd wait, if you want to tour, there are plenty of rumours of there being a facelift for the T7 soon, including a 'touring' version, with a bigger fuel tank, better road tyres, etc

I rip the Super T with tkc80’s. Bike has 29k on her and I couldn’t be happier. As long as you don’t do rides much more challenging than hard fire roads, this is my favorite bike I have owned. For reference I have owned 1200gs, 1200gsa, 800gs, Husky 501,

@@Dirtpoorhomesteader I am now on the new 1250 GSA and I will say that I like it better. I was just getting a little concerned with the mileage on the super T even though it was functioning perfectly fine. I had an offer and I took it.

@@SingleTrackMindState I hear ya. The GS is one of those bikes I want to ride just for the experience the bike offers. It’s just sublime. Other bikes that lack performance are merely to take me on a adventure. The gs is both. 3rd gear on a gravel road and whacking that throttle makes me giddy without fail.
