It's funny cause in the previous season with the episode "Game of Tones", Amy said that she always forget that Nibbler can talk. Probably because Nibbler is mostly seen as a cute house pet that hardly gets to be a part of the team in many of their adventures. I believe, however, that Nibbler should be in more episodes with the Planet Express crew to further cement his role as a part of the team in many of their endeavors. After all, he has great resources: he is intelligent, he's part of a race of beings that keep watch over the entire universe, and he has information on Fry being the most important person in the universe and Leela being called "The Other". I do appreciate the writters going back to old storylines to make their episodes for this season. The parasitic worms being brought back for the 2nd time was a treat to watch. I still prefer "Parasites Lost", but this episode was pretty good too.

I like how you just gloss over the extremely useful fact that nibbler could almost instantly devour any animal threat. No, nibbler is over deployed if anything. The nibbler episodes can be quite jarring and contrived
@StarForce99
@StarForce99 10 месяцев назад
@@fertilizerspike I glossed over it cause it wasn't that important to my comment. The point I was trying to make was that Nibbler doesn't do much to show off his intelligence enough to be in many episodes with the Planet Express Crew despite wanting to BE a part of the crew since the Season 6 episode "That Darn Katz!" Which is one of the only episodes Nibbler had a main role that WASN'T about him freezing Fry back 1,000 years ago. And the episode was complete dogshit as many other ones during the CC Era. Nibbler is underutilized and is only relegated to just being a house pet with his only comedic joke is that he eats just about everything. Except Bender's cooking and enemies like the Brain Spawn and the Scam Aliens. Even his pooping is now not important since the Planet Express Ship doesn't use Dark Matter as fuel anymore rather they now use whale oil. The only episodes we really get to see him in are literally only about him and no one else. There are a few episodes when he plays the main role where he only is subjected to be a lore guide as to why Fry is in the future to begin with. I'm not saying Nibbler is not important to Futurama. I just think if the writers wanted Nibbler to be an official member of the main cast just like they wanted since Season 6, they have to give him more laid back roles with episodes like this one or even go on adventures with the Planet Express Crew on some of their deliveries where his intellectual and animalistic nature can clash with the other alien inhabitants with some very creative jokes spread out in between.

They do sort of toss him on the crew in That Darn Katz and then just like never really address it again. He's definitely in the Scruffy, Cubert, Dwight, class of character, not the Zoidberg, Amy, Hermes group. They could probably bump him into the second category pretty easily.
@StarForce99
@StarForce99 10 месяцев назад
@@bennett420 They should. I actually like Nibbler and find his intellectual nature fascinating and his tie-in to Fry as to why he's in the future to begin with. Along with the fact he has stated Leela being "The Other" in "The Why of Fry" as some lore hint.

2:25 One of my favorite bits is Bender coloring circles like a Spirograph down there. But if that's Fun on a Bun, I think the "Orange Joe" line is intended to establish awareness of hair color to the audience (it comes up as an important plot point later in the episode, trust me). One of my favorite episodes.

This may be too ancient a reference for your audience, but in regards to the continuity of a futuristic sit-com, I find myself remembering the words of The Bard: "If you're wondering how he eats and breathes and other science facts, just repeat to yourself 'it's just a show, I should really just relax.'"

I actually think the original parasites may be something normal to nibbler's species and could actually be the reason they live for so long and are so intelligent We only see the intelligence boost in fry and he isnt insanely intelligent but he is also limited by the human brain and by his lack of a delta brainwave so they may not be able to make him as smart
@bennett420
@bennett420 10 месяцев назад
Oh, this is very interesting, and works better with that whole universal truth Nibbler and Leela see through the sand visions. It would also explain why he would need his ancestral litter box sand. If Nibblonians naturally have these worms, it's not a question of when he got the worms, it's when did the worms get crabs? Lol
@StarForce99
@StarForce99 10 месяцев назад
Worms not only made Fry smarter, but stronger and a lot more coordinated too. Ik Nibbler doesn't have a 6-pack and isn't particularly strong himself. So maybe these worms could also improve his physicality in a way.

Eh it's still pretty apparent that though Futurama cares for it's continuity more then most other adult animated sitcoms this isn't like Bojack Horseman that is totally in synch with it's history and will still do things week to week. I mean for instance in the latest episode when Leela moves into Fry's apartment... where the hell is Nibbler? Like it has been implied that Nibbler lives with Leela when he isn't at Planet Express so it's clear she would be taking him there if that's where she's living but she doesn't because the episode isn't about Nibbler at all and has no role for him thus doesn't even bother having him show up. Which if the show super cared about it's continuity they wouldn't just do that but it's still dependent on the story so yeah they're fine just having Nibbler not there even when he should be.
@StarForce99
@StarForce99 10 месяцев назад
Agreed. The continuity is there, but it only acts when it's right for the story. And if a scene is played off for jokes, remember that Futurama is a comedy show first so gags and dark humor are their obvious priority over some continuity. That's how I've always viewed the show since I was 11 years old.
@bennett420
@bennett420 10 месяцев назад
Most of the adult animated sitcoms I can think of have a pretty large focus on their shows continuity. Bojack you mentioned but Rick and Morty, Solar Opposites, Disenchantment, Inside Job, even shows like Archer do it a bit as well. It feels like they're growing in popularity, and it make sense, it works well with streaming and binging.
@StarForce99
@StarForce99 10 месяцев назад
@@bennett420 Rick and Morty seems to not care and likes to blue-ball their audience for caring. Which is unfortunate since the show was seem as a pretty good show to watch back when it first aired.

@@bennett420 I guess what I meant futurama is more continuity focused then most other adult animated sitcoms from the time it started out as. Since yeah stuff made in the 2010's to now focuses more on continuity and building it's world but that certainly wasn't really the case in the late 90's when Futurama started. Though the first show I'd argue that has a full airtight continuity for an adult aniamted series was the Venture Brothers which cared more then Futurama did but yeah that was a rarity until like the last 10 years.

Thanks for actually saying what I’ve been thinking. The new season is just stuffed with cannon, while previous seasons had episodes that didn’t seem to relate something ended up still resurfacing so it was very much like the regular simpsons seperate episodes but still connected tons of lore down the line. This just feels like they’re trying to retcon or tie up loose ends it doesn’t feel good it feels like a half-assed burial
@bennett420
@bennett420 10 месяцев назад
Yeah, I think this is where I ultimately landed. I thought it was a great sign in the first episode, but it's starting to oversaturate the revival. Half-assed burial feels accurate, I hope the back half turns it around.

I think being serialized will help the show be fresh to the writer's, because since decades have passed since its original airing there seems to be some boredom with the characters. More shows nowadays are not episodic which is one of the trends that actually seems like a good thing. Of course, not to say episodic is bad.
@bennett420
@bennett420 10 месяцев назад
I think the fact that so many show are serialized these days is why I wish they would keep to an episodic format. The ability to do some outlandish story, then turn around and do something completely different the next week is something I've always thought of as a strength. When you're too serialized your hands get tied and you're forced to clean up plot holes and threads like Kif and Amy's kids.

Can't disagree, especially if we're talking about the original Fox episodes. One of the reasons I feel in love with the show was the ridiculous attention to detail. I'm concerned the attention to detail is lost in the more recent episodes, but the desire to keep them connected is still there. It can still be fun when it happens, I just wonder what could have been if they were less focused on it.

Personally, while I did why they had to restablist the cotinuity with Leela "forgot" Nibbler can talked and aswell to being the biological mother to Kliff kids. People will forget these continuity due to the show being cancelled and revived years later especially if they don't rewatched it. On the other hand, I am a casual viewer myself and even I remember key moments in the show like with Nibbler can talked and I remember Kliff children cos I always wonder if we will ever seen those children again years later when it firs aired?!
@bennett420

I totally agree when it comes to Leela's relationship to Kif and Amy's kids. I also liked how they did it in the episode itself. "Woah, I must of been super drunk" lmao. But as fan dedicated enough to make videos about the show, maybe I'm underestimating the new viewer angle

I actually liked that they explained Nibbler's lack of intelligence. I was scared for the entire duration of the episode(especially close to the end) that he would remain dumb forever, but luckily, they fixed that.
