SPOILERS for "Related to Items You've View" and earlier
I don't know if it's because they're afraid to ruffle feathers, but every time Mom stands in as a parody for a real world company she's always pulling punches. I miss the old ruthless business woman who wasn't afraid to send out an army of killbots to maintain her margins.

To say Momazon being staffed by robots diatances it from the human cost of Amazon in reality kind of undercuts almost every Bender centric plot in the entire series. His entire arc is about finding purpose, one could easily say "humanity," despite being a robot. The entire point is that robots are NOT just automatons.

Totally get where you're coming from, especially because Bender, and other robots in Futurama are often used to represent a sort of "second class" citizen with helps provide commentary on our society. I think in this specific case, due the real Amazon's relationship with automation and treating their human employees like automatons, it has potential to muddle the message. I understand that's the point they were trying to make, but it missed the mark for me. In the end the PX crew saves Bender, but that's really it, the rest of the robots are still prisoner and everyone just seems to carry on with their lives. The commentary is barely there, and I think having a fully robotic work force contributes to that mild commentary.

@@bennett420 I mean, I don't remember which episode you mentioned this on, but that's kind of the nature of sitcoms unfortunately. I agree they could have taken a stronger stance against workplace abuse. I just don't feel like you can watch the show that very explicitly shows that robots are very much sentient is muddling the message to the point that they're saying those robots are the equivalent of automated machines of today. That's just a wild leap to me. But that's just my interpretation.

Yeah, tepid commentary serves the status quo. A full throated pro-union message would have been so much more fun.

We hope for more, but it's a shame just saying the word union in a show passes for commentary right now

Video was pretty good, I don’t have much to say but I saw there weren’t any other comments yet so I felt the need to say something

How does mom using robots shut down commentary? This is futurama, robots are people. More importantly, robots are consistently used as a stand in for marginalized groups. It adds to the commentary.

This is another episode to me that, while not terrible overall, felt like the lowest of the low hanging fruit in doing any Amazon focused humor. I'm afraid of the upcoming virus-related episode...

Yea the episode felt just very lazy in its commentary and I feel since the fox run the show hasn’t had as much to say as it used to. Like Amazon is bad…yes and? And sometimes the story doesn’t even call for what happens in the episode. Like bender becoming a Momazon worker just seemed like then finding any reason for the audience to get an inside perspective of the warehouse

I'm not saying she can't be evil anymore, but Mom should probably stand less now for the company as a whole and more for the old Carol Lombardinis and CEOs that *stubbornly* refuse to step down from their positions because that would be brilliantly evergreen commentary on their part, even with deadly force. Like, look at the various strikes and the wealthy CEOs clinging to their jobs like the money would dry up if they stopped working. Look at the sudden influx of idiots saying that work=family now that everything's gone remote. If they used Mom as a standin for that rather than just "company bad." I think she'd still be relevant mommentary. But here's the thing, we're not in that universe. We're in the dumb universe where Mom is *I AM COMPANY. PLEASE INSERT COMMENTARY.*
@bennett420

Honestly, that sounds like a more evil version of Mom than Momazon to me, lol

@@bennett420 Companies have gotten so brazenly evil that Google removed don't be evil from its terms and put it as a footnote in their world domination quest. Mom can't do that anymore.

If modern day mom is so "not evil" compared to fox era mom, and fry = time = fry ; meaning the universes of literally everything weve ever seen through a screen exist, with "time" being the one constant across all the universes ; is it hard to believe that modern day mom covers up the "real" companies' evilness to us, the people IN that "real" world because that second thing i said, about screens being LITERAL windows into other universes really IS true? 🤔

Has to be my least favorite episode in the run so far. Every Amazon joke left me dead silent since they only picked low hanging jokes. It wasn’t funny and the plot bored the shit out of me. Plus they did the jealous Bender plot again and it just adds nothing but “this is why Bender works there now.” If I rant anymore I would have to make my own video so I shall shut up for now
@bennett420
@bennett420 10 месяцев назад
Yeah the jealous Bender lead in was a bad choice. Could have done something like have Mom round up all her robots to work in the warehouse, that would have been more old school Mom too.

I’m pleased you quickly changed your tune about the new streaming version of the show. It sucked from the first scene of the first episode - literally unwatchable.
