Thanks for debunking that “eating right before bed stores fat” myth lol I get off work late and always eat a big meal right before bed and have stayed right at my body’s set point.
@UCpCqUSWZo1vM2_Xis6rWYlw No, however I don’t eat red meat for a few reasons, but it has given me heartburn at night in the past. I do cover my chicken in Cholula hot sauce though and don’t ever have any problems. I think it just kind of depends on your diet and possible food sensitivities.
Since moving to Spain my husband and I eat dinner around 9:30pm or later. I go to bed usually within an hour after dinner, and I haven’t had any weight gain.
Abbey, could you talk about the difference between the FDA restrictions here in the USA vs European countries restrictions on the ingredients they allow in their food ? When I went to Europe, I never felt better (stomach pain, bloat, digestive wise) and I ate the EXACT same things. Pizza, pasta, chicken, and even fast food there. It makes me wonder if some of what the US allows in their ingredients that Europe restricts is keeping some people more "sick" (digestive issues/food intolerance) and possibly harder to keep weight down?
here’s the question i have for you: while traveling, were you generally doing a lot of walking and moving around throughout the day? most travelers in europe do a lot of walking without really realizing it, and things like bloating and digestive issues can be reallllllly helped by just getting in gentle movement all across the day. furthermore, what did your stress levels look like? stress can really contribute to digestive issues, headaches, general feelings of brain fog and tiredness, etc. i’d guess that while on vacation, you’re a lot less stressed. there are a lot of factors that go into how our bodies feel besides just food.
I’m from Europe and have never had any digestion related issues. When I was in America I ate the same foods but felt AWFUL and had stomach / bloating issues the entire time. This has never happened when travelling to any other country so really made me question the ingredients
As a person who has had a bariatric weight loss journey that has been 6 years, I can tell you the mantra that any weight loss/gain/maintenance is absolutely a life long journey that has ups and downs. Very well put by Abbey.
thank you for these videos abbey! you’ve really helped me in my recovery!! the hunger crushing combo has upped my snack game and i now find myself thinking “what would abbey say to add to this meal/snack?” rather than “how can i cut the calories down?” thank you ♥️
I love that this is the focus of her videos. “Being full and satiated” rather than “This not that”, like all the other influencers. Has helped me a ton
Thank you for saying that drinking celery juice doesn’t automatically make you “clean” and “healthy” & vice versa eating a bag of doritos isnt “nasty” or “bad”! Love this series. Would still love your thoughts on Sarahs Day recent ebook reel targeting ED sufferers. She continues to promote diet culture across her channel heavily and it’s concerning. Especially considering she is pregnant and hyperfixating on how “big” she is as if that isn’t the whole point. Thanks so much as always xx
SO needed this video. I am a health coach and make it really clear to my clients I am just a BS holder in nutrition not an RD and, I just support them with healthy recipes and teach them how to calculate their macros to fit their goals. I had to tell a client yesterday that I ethically could no longer work with her because she is exhibiting patterns of disordered eating and refusing to get professional psychiatric help. Only then she reveals to me: she has had an eating disorder since the SEVENTH GRADE! Part of me felt completely awful because I didn't want her to feel like I gave up on her, but I know enabling her behavior was not going to be beneficial to her health, and I'm not qualified to treat her mental health.
Love Abbey’s videos ! If anyone is interested in purchasing those Built Bars just know that you are compromising flavor tremendously. They have a very gummy consistency and barely taste like the flavors they advertise in the box. They are a great source of protein and the calories are low. Just thought I mentioned in case someone follows the link like I did. There are better protein bars. I will still listen to all of Abbey’s recommendations she’s such a positive energy in this platform. 🌟💖
Agreed I bought a box of mixed flavors and they taste nothing like the flavor names and they’re so chewy I gave them to my friends and family and they all said it was too chewy but it is a great easy source to get protein on the go, I prefer the misfits protein bars but we can always get protein through our food but protein bars are fun to try and a good dessert
@@AbbeysKitchen I agree, they didn't work for me, I have upper false teeth and agree with others that they are "gummy" and the size and availability is also disappointing. I have a seriously limited budget and it's a huge splurge to buy protein bars in general so when I do, I absolutely must have something that suits my taste, and is consist in flavor and texture. I completely understand that reliability in these days is "extinct". I simply wasn't thrilled and I just simply wouldn't buy more as I have to cook/make most things from scratch for financial reasons anyhow, so on the rare occasion I splurge on protein bars, I feel that reliability, consistency and availability are also important, I only bought them twice but neither time was I "WOWed". I think, setting aside the texture, which didn't work for me, I can see where others would enjoy them. That said, I do wish they could improve the consistency and quality.
Thank you Abbey for this video! Pointing out the negative language tied to food really resonates with me. I constantly shame myself with food/weight loss/deadlines (currently working hard on giving myself grace). I'm rooting Jaclyn on and everyone on their journey to healthier / happier habits regardless of weight !!
Hey Abbey, do you think you could do a video discussing weight set point more? I've heard you mention it before, but I'd love to learn more about it. Like is it different for everyone? Is there an average? What factors determine a person's set point? How do you know your within your set point range? Etc
I'd love for you to make a video about maintaining weight! I am absolutely happy in my petite mid-size body but I find recently I have gone up a few pant sizes and while I'm not mad about how I look/feel I would love to just fit into my clothes without getting any bigger. Whenever I look into this I always get struck by diet culture bs and its disheartening. I'm not trying to LOSE weight. Would love to know your advice on this :)
Thank you so much for your content Abbey! I struggled with disordered eating for over 10 years and your blog and channel have been crucial for me to develop a love for food and getting to my version of healthy. I would love to hear how Diet Debbie is doing and if we will ever see her again? Also, I would love to hear about your experiences working on talk shows as an authority source on nutrition. Any memorable moments happen on or off screen?
Eating Doritos makes me feel nasty because I have no self control when it comes to them. Other chips are fine but something about Doritos, if I have them in the house, I will eat them all in one or two sittings. Doesn't matter if I portion them about in a bowl or anything, I'll eat the whole bag and it makes me feel sick afterwards. I just don't buy them anymore.
Why not buy smaller bags? They're pretty much only available in small bags in my country or that's how it seems. I think it's because they have a really thick layer of spices on them. The flavour doesn't become kinda dull after you continue eating for a while like with most chips.
From the HCC to unlearning some of my disordered behaviors and practicing body acceptance, I have so much to thank you for Abbey. You’re such a blessing 🤎
She's so relatable and I think her ups and downs and multiple weight loss attempts reflect what many women struggle with all the time! Her videos feel like chatting with a girlfriend. I just wish she could see how freaking beautiful she is just the way she is. Why on earth do we hold up such a thin beauty ideal in our society? ETA: Abbey, your hair looks so cute in this video!!
In the last 6 years I have been through and dealt with a traumatic experience which when it happened triggered generalized anxiety disorder and spiraled me into severe depression, and while going to therapy to work through this I uncovered I have CPTSD due to childhood trauma and growing up in an abusive household. I learned coping mechanism for dealing with my trauma, and to manage borderline symptoms, obsessive compulsive symptoms, crippling social anxiety, got rid of toxic people, changed my career for the better, started spending time on my hobbies. I also dealt with my binge eating disorder, brought back whole categories of foods into my diet, started to implement intuitive eating and I am currently enjoying a wide variety of foods, way more than before, and relatively guilt free (sometimes I'll panic if I eat say more than 2400 calories in a day - I usually sit at 1900) It just struck me today, I've achieved so many things I set my mind to, yet still, after 6 years of trying to lose weight, my body falls back to its comfortable weight of 67 kgs (I'm 1.67m). My conclusion is what you've been saying all along - losing weight in a healthy way is HARD 😂 Well, my journey of trying to lose weigh in a healthy way continues. My next goal is to incorporate more movement and sport into my day (this is a little bit harder, since due to my mental health issues I have lower energy levels than most people) Anyways, thank you Abbey Sharp for all the invaluable information you are sharing with us ❤️
Hey Abbey! I was wondering if you’d ever heard the podcast Maintenance Phase. I’ve been loving it but it’d be interesting to hear your take on it. It seems very up your alley in terms of approach to health and busting diet industry myths. Would be super fun to hear you on an episode someday too!!
I used to get gerd like Jacklyn, I wonder if she has a food sensitivity like I do that makes her feel poorly. My sensitivity was dairy, tomatoes, and and peppers. Even my hay fever post nasal drip can give me gerd.
The thing with Jaclyn, she’s very contradicting to me with her attitude towards food. You’re making absolute perfect sense as usual. Thanks for the video Abbey!
thank u so much for these videos abbey. I come from a very toxic and judgemental family and can't even eat a salad without feeling guilty or sometimes I change my clothes 5 times bawling before leaving the house cause I see myself as huge.watching your videos honestly feels like therapy but for food and after i watch one I feel renewed, like I have a good relationship with weight and food. in fact I try to watch one everyday like my personal therapy. u're doing such an amazing thing for people with backgrounds like mine ❤️🧸
I have a lot of food related stress but my husband found out recently that he has high blood pressure. Now finding things to eat that fit within the parameters he needs is tough because the more restrictions there are, the more my stress and anxiety goes up around food (meal planning, shopping, cooking). Sometimes it feels like there’s just way too many options and way too many things to consider. I’d love if you could cover how to approach making a healthy meal plan in an uncomplicated and low stress way!
Hi Abbey, love your videos ❤I don't know if you have a video about this yet, but I would like to suggest doing a video about food effects on acne. Like, ingredients to avoid or add in these cases. Thank you for your hard work, following you from Spain 🥰
@@draculena I’ve had the Chocolate raspberry, cookie and cream, double chocolate, and peanut butter brownie and honestly it’s hard to choose a favorite. If I had to I’d say pb brownie! ☺️
I'd love to see you review Demi Lovato's journey with food (froyo incident aside) and discuss the impact of having people around you who enforce unhealthy eating habits- re: their old team. They've talked about it in interviews with ellen & on their documentary "dancing with the devil".
Can you make a video on why some people struggle with hunger ques? You might already have one up but lately I feel like I have had no appetite but I know I need to eat and I’m just wondering what might be causing it
I have a few videos you might find helpful! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PerKp6lYOWE.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MTqYd7Ma394.html
I would absolutely love for you to talk about the "Weigh Down" diet which was basically intuitive eating sprinkled with religion for some odd reason and was marketed as being "innovative" and "inventive".
Weigh down was not/is not intuitive eating, it's lots of restriction mixed with lots of religious guilt and, honestly, religious abuse-like equating weight with sin. I'll also add that Gwen Shamlin and her teachings have been linked to lots of child abuse and even child death. I'm not sure how one could ethically look at the diet without discussing the belief system and extensive abuse that goes with it.
Great video thanks for sharing and yeah, a "60 day weight loss journey" is only going to last that long. A healthier lifestyle, I think is a more reasonably paced longer lasting and more effective goal to pursue.
It would be awesome if you reacted to WheezyWaiters How to Eat Healthy for Life video. He mentions intuitive eating, but also some other things I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on
Did you know that not just PMS but ovulation makes you bloated? Women's hormones are heavily neglected and a focus on food only makes it easier for women to take on unhealthy food habits due to lack of education, completely and utterly set up for failure no matter what they do until they address the hormone imbalances with diet, weightloss and activity. Not sleeping also affects how much you eat + hormones. There needs to be better focus on women's health as a whole and not just "eatting food makes people fat". There's a reason countries with less fast food, more walking than driving, and over all healthier life styles than the US have a healthier looking people.
I always see people talk about period bloating but never hear anyone talk about ovulation bloating. I don’t bloat and have that hormonal gain during my period but I do during ovulation.
Eating right before bed might be fine for some people and not fine for others. For me, following intermittent fasting has allowed me to lower my A1C to non-diabetic levels. I understand there are people who can stay thin regardless of when or what they eat, but that is not me. As you say all the time Abbey, “does it fit your journey.”
Abbey- your comments on changing weight due to mental health and the added struggles it adds for some, is so important. I struggle with this. I'm in recovery for ED AND my mental health has been all over the place. It has made my appetite non-existent. This is a problem for me, as someone in recovery, constantly trying to navigate how I feel in my body- my hunger cues, etc. It has really thrown an added wrench into my recovery.
I prefer to eat late at night.. its when I feel the most hunger. And It doesnt matter if I had breakfast had filling meals.. doesnt matter. I'm currently losing weight since adding exercise and I actually never feel bloated.
What upsets me is that she gets super upset when numbers don't change...she has to be looking at her body changing, measurements and also how she feels (gut wise, a happy gut changes how your whole body and mood feels), not just the numbers on the scale to see a change!!
I'd just use the hummus as a base for the tabbouleh wrap! Would probably be awesome. Tortillas are such a great vessel for nearly anything. One of my favorite quick meals is a burrito made with hummus, some boiled or fried potato or rice (that can also come from one of those bags that you just warm in the microwave), fake mince meat (BBQ flavored, made from oats, ready to use), lettuce, salsa and a tiny sprinkle of cheese or a dash of cheese sauce on a fullwheat tortilla. Sometimes I also fry an egg and put it in the mix just to keep me going for longer. I swear I've eaten like 100 of these during the last year when life was busy and weird and crazy, and my EDs were acting up all sorts of ways. I never have an excuse to eat bad when I can literally make my favorite meal in 5 minutes. 💕
@@lydiafwilliams oh yes! And you can add any veg to that as well, goes with everything! I think a tortilla is one of the best inventions since the wheel; you can fill it up with anything and it's a complete meal on it's own. I've done so many great meals with leftovers. Burritos, tacos, quesadillas...it's an endless list of goodness!
Abbey, you mention set point weight. I typically always sit in the 150 lb range and would consider that my “set point”, but technically according to my BMI I’m overweight, can that be your healthy happy weight even if BMI says it’s technically over weight ?
Like you said the journey IS life. We would always need to be mindful about the food we eat and pay attention to how it makes us feel. Wishing the best for jaclyn, it’s hard. I’ve recently uploaded a video talking about my struggle w food and how it’s been rough trying to mend that relationship. Its not perfect but I think I’m finally getting the hang of it! I’ve been able to loose 60lbs so far just by cooking most of my meals at home and having a different mindset ☺️ great video!
It’s almost 11 pm and I’m eating chips and dipping them in salsa and it’s a great guilt free snack because I’ve worked hard on not feeling guilt associated to food And my dog is sick so I’m trying to stay up as late as I can so my fiancé can get as many hours as possible of sleep
I like watching Abbey’s videos and I don’t mind sponsorships at all but it’s a bit weird how legit every single video has a sponsor, especially when the person making the contact is promoting food and the content made is supposed to be objective.
@@selenacorrea3542 I understand that but it’s every single video. And she has made statements about some of her past sponsorships and said that she wouldn’t do those same sponsorships today. Obviously, a change of heart can happen but it’s way more likely when every single video you post sponsored. Not to mention, it’s hard to believe it’s genuine when you have a sponsorship in every video because you know that’s why that video went up at a certain time. There’s always a deadline and requirements with sponsorships. She has also been caught in a fire with editing out certain things that people eat in there “What I eat in a day” videos based on if she likes the creater she’s reacting to. That in it of itself makes your content not objective.
Same here...I don't mind sponsorships once in a while, but when they're too frequent, I get turned off. I posted this similar comment on one of juicyjas' videos and was very rudely told to stop watching. I can't comment on Abbey's channel because I don't watch frequently enough (even though I do really like her!), but my comment is just a general comment. I think that overly sponsored channels will ultimately result in the downfall of youtubers. I now only watch youtubers who only have sponsorships once in a while, when they seem to really believe in the product.
I hate nuts and I try and try but like I just don’t want to eat them ever. I feel like it’s such a good snack and I’m vegetarian so I could probably use some almonds. I HATE them.😩😩
The only reason I don’t eat right before I go to bed is because I wake up STARVING to the point that I am extremely nauseous and that just sucks to wake up to lol. I feel like it messes with my blood sugar maybe? But it’s definitely not because it’ll store fat. I appreciate that she’s listening to her body feeling bad when she’s eating at night, but I wish that was the only reason she didn’t do that, not because she thinks it’ll contribute to weight gain.
i've never been this early,,, or be one to comment on videos, but ur content is so informational as well as comforting !! :> i did want to ask abt raw vegan diets as i have been seeing this pop up a lot on my social medias. most of them do include high volume but i am curious abt the possible reasons why anyone would choose this or whether this is can be sustainable from a nutritional point of view. thank you so much for makng my days a little better !
This morning I tried a hunger crushing combo of cubed cheese , popcorn, almonds , and hard boiled eggs . It was awesome ! Jaclyn is very pretty and relatable and seems to be at a good place for the moment !
Hi Abby! Do you know the specifics on digesting whey protein? I always thought whey protein isolate was terrible and you don’t digest it well, which is what is in the built bars. But I don’t know if that’s really accurate or not. Thanks!
beeen waiting for this!!!!! Please make a video about: nutrition & its effect on hormones & a food/grocery haul!!! Also a question abt high fructose corn syrup (ur last video): I took a nutrition course a few yrs ago (so maybe things have changed since then with research) & my teacher said that it spikes blood sugar faster than anything else! like it almost "bypasses" any insulin to help break it down....is this true???
I think she has food addiction issues. Feel gross and bloated, could it mean the bag of chips is making her blood sugar rise and then she crashes - she feels mind fog afterward. I agree with Abbey about the New Year goals to get back to it, rarely works.
