For people who don't like to exercise, I recommend walking while listening to a podcast or calling a friend. It can be helpful to link a positive reinforcement with an undesirable activity

In many parts of the US we have so little built in movement-lack of walkable environments, safe and reliable public transportation-that we need to isolate exercise into like 30 min increments at the gym or running or something. I naturally have been my thinnest when I’ve lived in walkable cities with good public transit and biking culture. No need to punish myself at the gym which I hate. I wish there was more attention and funding dedicated to making American environments healthier for our people rather than treating it as an individual failing that needs expensive exercise and diet programs to solve.

Yeah that was a culture shock for me when I visited, coming from Germany where every city for the most parts is very walkable. There can be a Coffeeshop a little over a mile from your house but the only way to get there is by car. The next Public Transport near my best friend was over a mile away from her house (and I talk the Bay Area very near to SF, so very populated).

It’s weird, I thought this would be triggering for me but it was almost like a wake up call. Seeing someone verbalise and behave the way I have/do towards eating/ exercising / dieting made me really realise how destructive and horrible I have been to myself. I really feel for Jaclyn it’s an exhausting place to be. Thank you Abbey for your videos. Listening to you react to these videos is almost like hearing my inner voice trying to soothe me when I’m going through a rough time with disordered eating etc. 💜

Abbey! This series! This poor girl. What a great video. I feel like part of what affects her outlook on food and eating is how indulgent her lifestyle is. Everything Jaclyn does is so over-the-top, so opulent - I mean you only have to look at her house to see that! If you watch her clothing hauls, (which I do haha) you’ll hear her say “I love this shirt, so I went and bought one in every color!” And listen, you do you, boo. But it’s not surprising that when she goes to a restaurant, she can’t get a meal, she has to get a meal and multiple appetizers and drinks and go all out. I feel like it’s all tied together. I feel bad saying that because, like, what the hell do I know about her outside of RU-vid? Nothing. But that’s just my two cents. I hope she gets to a happy place.

I have the same issue. I used to be a workaholic but since I became A SAHM, I overdo lots of other things like eating, buying clothes, and makeup. I wish I could get that way about fitness and health. I plan on replacing these things with productive things like I am learning to sew and make clothes as well as getting back into fitness. I hope I can replace my compulsions to buy and eat with a compulsion to create.

I have struggled with the huge waves of "diet culture," disordered eating, fluctuations to over 300 when I lost my mama to cancer at 24 and down to 158 at my lowest- starving myself and using drugs recreationally while in college to fit in and feel thin like all the beautiful San Diegans around me. I had to go through intensive therapy as well as have strict accountability to kick my disordered eating. I always judged me self worth and self esteem by the number on the scale! I am so happy to report that at 36 years old (now a mama of 2 toddler boys and currently expecting baby #3 in 2022!!) I am so happy and content with my body even though the scale says 210. I am taller so I don't look overweight and I feel comfortable in my clothes and am happy with what I see in photos of myself. I've learned so much from your channel Abbey and am grateful for all of your content. It is truly life changing knowledge. Again, thank you so much and I'm eternally grateful for all the inspiration you provide!!! Hope you and your family have a beautiful holiday season and Merriest Christmas!

One of the fanciest things you can do with good dates is make maamouls! It was sad for me to hear her reference not lifting “heavy weights” so her weight wouldn’t increase from muscle gained. Building muscle has so many benefits in terms of increasing longevity, from increasing bone density, grip strength etc. A higher muscle to fat ratio is healthy (to a certain degree of course) and by fixating on weight she’s overlooking all of the benefits of higher muscle mass that may lead to a higher weight on the scale.
@AbbeysKitchen

For sure!
@thebeatles102998

some people just don't like to have a higher muscle mass though. some people don't like to look muscular and if she's losing weight to like her body more I don't think gaining muscles would help based on what she's said, though there may be health benefits. i have increased my muscle mass from weight lifting and using resistance bands and it has not helped my relationship with my body which demotivates me from exercising. I only did weight lifting/resistance exercises to increase metabolism and fat loss + afterburn effect to get leaner. But now I also have stretch marks on my arms from the increased muscle mass and I feel bulky and muscular like a man which makes me feel ugly :-) now i don't want to workout anymore. I'd rather just get enough calcium for my bone health and do cardio.
@daniellorenzo3085
@daniellorenzo3085 2 года назад
In fact weightlifting is the number 1 way to burn fat!
@user-qb4eb8vq5u
@user-qb4eb8vq5u 2 года назад
Most women 99% of them will not accidentally "gain too much muscle" that's not how it works. You will actually look leaner and firmer with more muscle and less body fat. And to gain "too much" will require a dedicated, muscle building program with a lot of protein and a lot of time. Even then, if you're not taking steroids, you will be unlikely to gain "too much"
@thebeatles102998
@thebeatles102998 2 года назад
@@user-qb4eb8vq5u Except I am telling you I gained muscle, because that is how resistance training works. Lmfao. And what I consider too much is what resulted in stretch marks from building a lot of muscle in a short time period that my skin couldn't stretch fast enough to accommodate.

I don’t follow Jaclyn but I’ve followed your reactions and other RU-vid reactions about her weight loss and I live in Tampa and I swear I want to find her and just tell her GIRL! You do not need to suffer so much to lose weight! I’ve lost 110 lbs sustainably and maintained it being much kinder to myself and enjoying the journey along the way as I I made progress and learned which foods worked for me that I truly enjoyed and separated exercise from weight loss and found fitness I truly enjoyed or was neutral about doing or enjoyed how it makes me feel. I recently went through a “challenge” to establish some healthier habits and my very southern style family has a history of food pushing. This time I didn’t overly restrict, I still went out and had a blast with family. They saw that I was actually eating enough and they just stopped. They eventually got to the point of saying you know you can have some of this if you want it but I’m not going to offer it because I see that you have a goal. It was so nice! Seeing an RD (and watching your videos!) helped me learn how to eat balanced meals, get rid of "moral" and dichotomizing language around food, and find exercises I enjoyed (or tolerated 😁). This was crucial in my body naturally finding the weight it's comfortable at--- which i honestly don't even know what that is! I had to throw out my scale...lol...but my clothes fit better and I FEEL better mentally and physically. Abby already knows this but I just feel like commenting and praising her for how smart these videos are. Not only are her educational series on her channel always there for endless support and information, but these videos are so educational and great at dismantling the messages and practices diet culture has put upon us for our entire lives. Analyzing the toxic diet messages in these videos and then Abby using her background as a dietician to disprove/provide information on the message !! Just helps me, and hopefully others, not only stop their own diet talk in its tracks but also walk away with some information to hear more crap from diet culture online and be able to logically question it. Just so smart and helpful. I can’t thank Abby enough for helping me and others have healthier relationships with food!

The natural delights mijool date snacks are SOOOOOO good 👍 . I feel for Jacklyn, she ties so much emotional value on her restricted food intake. I remember when I would restrict and it led to a cycle of restriction and binging or "cheat meals". I'm finally understanding that my body wasn't registering hunger cues until I was starving, so I had to eat smaller meals throughout the day, and now that I've regulated into a more consistent eating schedule, my body gives me hunger cues, I feel energized and mentally so much better. I don't care about loosing or gaining, I care more about giving my body what it NEEDS: food, pleasure, love, comfort, movement.

Letting go of the good VS. bad food mentality has all but cured my binge eating. It has taken a LOT of intentional effort & I still ‘disappoint’ myself every once in a while to a degree..I feel bad that Jaclyn is potentially feeling the way I did for years just based on the language she uses around food. Really leaning in to how certain foods makes me feel immediately after, the next morning, etc. has been super helpful too. Yes! the whole thing with her boyfriend saying to to split the pasta was such a good idea! I was yelling at the screen “you don’t need to eat the whole dang plate girl!” Eating your favorite foods in smaller portions is much more sustainable than holding out for a specific “cheat day” to go all in, that only sets you up for “failure” in the long run. Moderation is key.

Maybe content with much more drama and struggle is much more relatable and entertaining for people and thus gets more attention aka revenue. So changing her mindset might be really hard for her. Sometimes, we are stuck in our negative thought patterns and identify with our unhelpful beliefs. I mean, I enjoy your content of unpicking her and other people's stuff, too, so I too, indirectly feed the need for that kind of content. Thank you so much, Abbey for what you do! A one point in my health journey, I weighed myself every day and my husband threw away our scale because he saw that I was getting obsessive over it. Now, about 2 years later, I weigh myself twice a week because I’m currently in a lean bulk/reverse diet. It’s a whole new feeling weighing myself to make sure it stays the same rather than hoping for unrealistic weight loss. But it took a mentality change for me to get here.

Completely on point with the whole 'there may not be an exercise you don't hate'. I hate exercising. I never feel good, or strong, or energetic, or whatever. The worst part is sweating - I HATE sweating. I try to swim sometimes, as that doesn't make me sweaty, but the whole performance of preparing for the pool and showering afterwards takes forever. I have had to just find exercises that I don't actively dread (Zumba and other dance based workouts are OK) instead of looking for the magic workout that makes me feel buzzed/great/energetic etc. It doesn't exist.

I feel so much for Jaclyn... You can really see how much she's being pulled up and down and to the left and right and up again by all her emotions and behaviours concerning food. It's amazing how much power food can have. I feel like many disordered eating behaviours & thoughts are really things we can all relate to on some level, and that are "normal" in small doses, that's what makes it so difficult. If you're addicted to a hard drug, it's not easy either, but the solution is clear: stop using. If you have these unhealthy behaviours surrounding food, it's not so clear cut; you will always come across food and there will always be choices that have to be made. She's so honest and real and I really think she's such a brave person for going through this tough & vulnerable journey so publicly. I hope she finds her balance.

Jaclyn is my exact height. Due to covid isolation and depression, my weight went from around 170lbs to 235lbs, but I managed to lose 10lbs this month (so now down to 225lbs). It's so encouraging to see someone struggling with the same issues I have. My goal is to get back down to a healthy weight of 155-160lbs. These videos have been extremely helpful for me, but I will admit I am highly scale dependent and struggle with portion control, I don't know most of the time if I'm eating too much or too little. I'm also a little bit more limited in protein options because I'm vegetarian, but this also means I have absolutely no problem adding fruits and veggies to my diet for satiety. I am still in that phase of weight loss where I feel great and love waking up every morning to make breakfast and go workout, but I am scared shitless of the phase that Abbey mentioned where my body is going to start having cravings and fighting against me. I want to do this right and eat healthy, and not starve myself or binge, so that this can be sustainable for the long run. Any tips, tricks, recommendations are welcome!
