Never lock the knees, keep a slight bend in the knees and mostly use your calves! Think of a spring action that involves both calves, and hamstrings (back of the thigh) with a little bit of knee movement.

Ya that's true bro...when I jump rope for the first time, I jump in wrong way and that's hurt my knee... And I started to jump in real way... That's more better

Loved the tips. Started jumping rope about 30 days ago and 1 ago I got severe knee pain and had to stop for recovery. I’ll be back doing the thing as soon as I’m feeling better.

Fantastic. I have arthritis in knees, hips etc. I find a really good jump rope technique, aside from just the low level basic step, as shown here, is the alternating foot move. Very low impact, as weight not on both feet when returning to the floor.

for me no knees pain , but after I done it I feel very tired and that night surely I'm on bed before 9 pm and very ready to sleep 😅

I jump rope on the street. I guess I need to use my mat. My knees don't hurt, but now I'm thinking they may in the long run. Thank you for the rope suggestion and the motivation. I've been doing jump rope about a week. I prefer that over the treadmill or running any day. Thank you so much again

When i started jumping rope i felt some light pain in the knees and feet but that was because my body was not used to that movement and my technique was not perfect. Now i can do any of the workouts without pain and my endurance is improving a lot with just 2 months of training. Like they say, is not hard, just do the thing.

For me, after a jump rope workout I experience pain around my ankle joints however, after these tips I've realized that I do alot of things wrong so thanks for the tips guys😉

@@tommymack3210 its not because of the height its more because of the distance of the rod i had severe pains went to the doc he asked me to change my bike now i ride 30km everyday and earlier it was 15 km bec of knee pain

When I was recovering from knee injury the only exercise I did was jump rope and body weight squats.

I jump rope in in Vibram E-LX on concrete with no issues but I make sure I get a proper bend in my knees and use my bodies natural range of motion for support and I minimize double under's and lengthened my jumping rope so my body is not landing so vertical. I use the same principle discussed for those that do barefoot running and jump like I am almost doing jump rope form of plyometrics. I have noticed that without a lot of padding(shoes or mats), jumping on hard or semi hard surface almost barefoot I get so many more muscles and activated in my feet, legs and calves; really my whole body. Keep up the great work guys!!!

Bad for knees if you do it wrong. I tend to have more issues with my shins than any other bone or joint in my legs when I jump. And that only happens when I jump too much (overtraining)

everything is bad for you knees if you are moving them wrong.... Always pay attention to your form, even how your feet hit the ground when walking.

Thank you so much for this. Thus my husband #1 reason why he wont start jump roping. He is ex military and has had knee surgery. His dr. Cleared him from exercise.

when done properly, this is VERY low impact. with a previous injury, suggest he starts SLOWLY... like 10 rounds of 5 skips. you've gotta start somewhere!

If its done with proper form there you shouldn't have any problems . Also even if you're doing it right Giving your knees a day off or two will help Remember that the body needs to recover and adapt. Its a life style

I'm 6'3 260ish and I'm doing 45 sec on 15 off for 20 min with no knee pain. Jog for 10 min and I'm aching for a week. Chondromalacia in both knees btw.

@@shanebakker6132 you might be doing something different. Since your knee shouldnt be flexing enough to cause the pain. In my case my knees hurt when bending close to 90 deg or going up and down stairs.

Helped me too. I did it on grass in the beginning but in Australia, the natural ground is hard. I took 2 weeks rest to recover and I bought a mat during my recovery. I now do can skip with and without shoes.

Knees been killing me so bad I been tossing at night. Honestly started laughing when you brought up the squats. I do a full body workout everytime I go to the gym but cool down with about 30 mins of jump rope. Great vid!

Several years ago I implemented all the right steps - I jump regularly 3 days a week for half an hour (HIIT, not steady state) in running shoes, on these rubber mats they have on the playgrounds and I take supplements because weak joints are kind of a family thing for me. The knee pain is now a distant memory, but... I am currently on a three week rest from all exercise but swimming because I got sesamoiditis which I didn't even know you could get and what it is until I woke up with a balloon foot and a toe that hurt AF. This has been my wake-up call to finally go to an orthopedist and consult my training because let me tell you - this condition is nothing fun, nor are the meds they give you for it (I feel like they just wiped my stomach lining clean). So if you folk know you have joint issues and/or you feel jumping rope causes you pain, I'm not saying stop doing it, but PLEASE, BE SMART ABOUT IT AND TALK TO A PROFESSIONAL, before you break a bone, tear a tendon or cause any other damage that will affect you in the future. Just as soon as my doctor clears me, I'm gonna go back to jumping, but this time I will know what I need to do for it to work for me. And I hope you all in JRD nation arrive at that point in your journey one day, too :).

I love your videos. I would love it if you could film a full hour follow along jump rope video *with variations. All the videos I have come across are under 30 minutes and even though they are great it would be awesome if you could film a full hour workout routine. Xx 💪🏻🤸🏼‍♀️

My knees never hurt when doing jump rope however the only pain I get is in both feet, right across the middle, not sure why though. 😔

It’s been almost a year since you asked, but no, it’s not. Check out any heavyweight boxer or MMA fighter. You just need to calculate your caloric intake with consideration of how much physical work you’re doing. Job labor, lifting weights etc. If you want to only focus on muscle growth and not your cardio health or fat loss, sure, it makes it easier to manage your intake but doing cardio will only help you in the long run so long as it’s nothing crazy like half or full marathons, unless that’s what you want to do. I’ve got a buddy of mine who does bodybuilding shows and then marathon running. It’s super difficult to balance as they are opposite ends of the spectrum, but almost anything can be done with proper planning and the desire to do so.

cycling has almost no impact... jump rope (when done properly) has VERY little impact. Any one of these activities while you are injured is probably a bad idea. Take care yoself and see a doctor if you are unsure.

hey guys here's my workout: 1: 20 pushups * 3 sets ( 2-3 mins rest between each sets) 2: 1 min jump rope * 15 sets ( 30 sec rest between each set ) What i wanna ask is , is this a good workout for beginners? i am 5'8 and 85 kg. and do this workout atleast 5 days a week.

20,20,20,20,20=100. Easy to reach 1000/day split and do. Any work out intially will give discomfort. Later u get used to workout and can't quit. Iam just obssed. Love this jumprope exercise. Love u guys from india.

Duuuuude. pain is for real and it can be caused by soooooo many different things! We're not doctors. You gotta see a doctor or a PT and work on the problem instead of just treating the pain.

Hey everyone im haveing issue with jump ropeing 1. I keep catching my right foot even though im keeping my feet together. 2. I feel the rope is hitting to far in front of me even though I've adjusted it how JRD say to. 3. My shoulders are getting fatigued and i dont think thats normal,but let me know. 4. My knees and shins and ankles are getting a bit painful could be that i jump on concrete so thats on me. 5.i use a walmart Rope that's also on me tho.

I don't have any pain but one of my knees makes a crunching noise (a quick internet search said that it's something to do with cartilage?). I'd like to get back into jumping rope again as I haven't done it since I was a kid, but I worry that I could do serious or long-term damage to that knee.

For me, it’s all prior injuries that keep me from doing double unders and why my knee hurts after skipping rope. Specifically the front kicks definitely bring out prior injury stuff so I am staying away from them for the time being. Sucks! Have so many things I want to do in life but blowing both knees out keeps me from doing a lot of it. As far as the tricks go, that’s not for me. They don’t impress me for some reason and I feel like it’s a time waster...

when your form is on point, your knees will be safe. Jump rope is VERY low impact. Tricks - you don't have to do tricks, but when you become proficient with them, the challenge keeps many engaged and added movement will burn more calories.

Jump Rope Dudes I agree! I skip 4 days a week. I can do normal bounce and the other basic stuff and I’m fine. It’s when I start trying double unders or other moves that irritates old injuries. Definitely no fault to the jump rope just is what it is. Thanks dudes!

Sir my height is 5.5 feet and weight is 69 kg I have been playing volley ball for almost two months but when landing after taking jump, there is pain in left knee, it seems that the leg has been pushed backwards I used to play volley ball earlier too but the pain never happened. Has my weight become too much according to height or is there some other reason, if there is a problem of weight, then how much weight will I have to lose?

You need to jump longer than that dude. It's a good idea to do a 5 min skip warm up then 20 mins of interval training then 5 mins warm down. I done that for a long time and got great results. When your skills and body get used to skipping increase the time. I do 30 mins non stop skipping and it's a real high when you complete it. If you get the technique right it won't take you long as you're at a good bodyweight already.

I am severely overweight and wanted to start skipping (jumping rope) to lose weight. However, before I even started skipping, my knees are painful. Is this form of exercise going to make my knees get better/worse? Would it be better to get my knees back to good health before I start? Thanks for your help!

I’ve been jumping rope for a few mths without any issues but 2 wk ago I might have overdone it n now my hip n knees hurt. Shld I rest until the pain is all gone or can I slowly start jumping again?

So is it jumping on the concrete in my drive way a whole lot (really having fun learning to do this stuff) or doing a PR with back squats causing my knee to hurt? Embrace the power of AND. Looking in to a jump rope map for the drive way. Thanks for the suggestion.

Jake Watkins - both of those things could be hurting you if your form is off... be careful!

My Shines are sensitive because my spine is pinching nerves of my shines. So running is painful (not impossible but ouch) jumpin rope helps with my cardio 100% people really do over jump. Some friends I introduced too lose weight (They were like nu uh you can't get a work out) then they sweat like a pig! They did jump high in the beginning and they didn't even realize it. Helped them fix it and ALSO HYDRATE!!! Talk to a physical therapist and say that joint pain could be because they don't work out at at and new to work out hurts but lack if water and Good nutrition hurts knees and elbows and back even.
