Today we’re going to talk about microwave popcorn and whether or not it’s safe to eat. At the center of the kernel of the corn, there is a little bit of water. When you heat it, it expands until it explodes. Popcorn has been around for a long time. Americans consume about 1.2 billion pounds (500 million kg) of popcorn every year.
Popcorn is not keto-friendly. I think it’s best to avoid eating popcorn. There is a certain chemical in microwave popcorn that prevents the oil from seeping through the bag. It’s also present in Teflon, pizza boxes, sandwich wrappers, and other packaging. About 98% of Americans have this chemical in their bodies. But, this chemical is a carcinogen that can potentially lead to kidney cancer and testicular cancer.
There is also another chemical used in microwave popcorn for the flavoring that can potentially lead to popcorn lung. The hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oils that are in microwave popcorn are also very unhealthy and bad for your arteries. On top of that, most corn is GMO and has traces of glyphosate.

I have always made popcorn in the microwave using a heatproof glass dish with lid, organic corn kernels and olive oil. Normally I just add some salt but you can add some real butter if you like the taste. The best thing about using Pyrex is that you can see how the food is cooking, and you have zero waste from packaging.

@@redmapleleaf4617 not at all, it always comes out nicely. My recipe uses 3 tablespoons of popping corn, a drizzle of olive oil. Nuke on high for 5 mins. Remove the popped kernels. No, popcorn is a trap. It doesn't even offer much of anything to you nutritionally. Same goes for chips made of corn, flour, or other junk. Veggie chips might be okay, like beet chips, sweet potato chips, that sort of thing... but it'll still be hard on the gut because it's so dry. So try to be moderate with those kinds of things. Baby carrots or broccoli florets make much healthier snacks, foods with drastically higher water content is best.

@mayastic9570

I don't see why you would need avocado oil just use any other vegetable oil as long as you don't eat to much it's fine. And it doesn't matter if it's GMO the corn is just the same, the crop it grows on is just faster growing and more drought resistant. You are more likely to get higher doses of pesticedes from non GMO food since they are inherently less resistant to pests.

Good nongmo corn is very healthy for the body. My grandmom used to tell me it strengthens teeth since they are chewy. I am talking about the yellow big corn which is non gmo usually found in India.

I buy plain popcorn in a jar at the store. And I have a microwavable popcorn popper -Cuisinart- that I pop it in so I can pop it plain with no oil, or salt.

the chemicals have been banned since 2016 anything you ingested before the ban will mostly stay in your body for a long time, the dose slowly decreases over time and there's no way to speed that up. Low doses off CFE's are not dangerous so no need to be worried, this will not contribute to your quality of life or life expectancy.

The best way to make popcorn? Use only organic popcorn and oil. Heat the stainless steel pane with the corn, then just ad a little olive oil or coco oil, cover up. The corn will pop strongly and very quickly. Do you know a better way?

The least damage would probably be air-popped non-GMO without oil (because you wouldn't want to mix fat and carbs) or flavorings, but it would suck, so why eat it?

When I eat popcorn it gives me palpitations, not sure why? So I stopped.
@richellmcknight446
@richellmcknight446 3 года назад
I too have food sensitivities that give me what might be described as palpitations- it's actually my blood pressure shooting up REALLY fast and causing chest pain and sometimes slight arrhythmia- I was only able to figure out it was food ( sometimes even medications) after doing whole 30 and working with a kinesiologist, now when I have that reaction, I avoid those foods. The good thing is, if it's a whole food, usually avoiding it for awhile resolves the issue. I've also noticed most of the more severe reactive foods are grains and sugars which aren't low carb anyway🥰
