Come Follow the Stream: www.twitch.tv/Narciverse *In the Aid of Avoiding longer term Spoilers in the video I have written up a much more indepth review below.* Once you have completed the initial "Starting Area" the game does open up with an interesting story surrounding the mystery of the ancient human ruins.a very large, Well designed new zone opens up that offers a new tier of materials exclusive to that zone. In addition there is more verticality to climb up and interesting ways to utilise your glider making the exploration in this zone very fun. I can see where they're going with their format and down the line as the Beta is fleshed out and more content is added, New zones will most certainly be part of that expansion. There are additional progression mechanics related to Renoun as a currency that you spend to increase your maximum focus bar but, this right now feels a little shallow and lack luster. I can see this side of the game being expanded later on with a possible skill tree of some kind instead of a binary increase in maximum focus Points. I would feel excited to head to a shrine after accumulating 100 focus points if I knew i was about to unlock a new perk in a specific proffessions skill tree.as for the skill progression itself. Unfortunately it is bare bones right now and upgrades are just gated by levels, materials and Gold... AKA: just the standard gameplay loop. However, as I mentioned in the video, the waiting around for materials to process does not improve as the game goes on, only increases in tedium when materials like cloth and hide and added to the Ore, Stone, Clay and Wood that I showed in the video. As your housing plot expands you gain the ability to place down more processing stations but that is sadly, not a very fun mechanic for me personally.I understand that the point is too go out, fill your bags, come back to your home and then process it so you can head out and explore again, but this gameplay loop is just far too casual and time gatey for me. I would much rather consume MORE materials for a few seconds instead of the standard material consumption for a few minutes. Perhaps the option to do this in the future can be explored? (Coming from Ashes of Creation I like to think my feedback is being heard) This obviously extends to the housing plots and expansions. It just isn't a mechanic I enjoy and I would rather spend DOUBLE even TRIPLE the ammount of materials to finish these builds instantly. 8 Hours for the starting house almost made me quit the game immidiately because I just wanted to progress. I find it fun to be rewarded for the work I put in, I do not find it fun to wait an arbitrary ammount of time just because the game says so. Active play is always more fun than passive play :) I hope you guys enjoy your time in palia and fingers crossed the Devs are some real Gs and continue to improve the game!
@dawgyv72 Lmao cuz It marketed at super casuals, and it doesn't hide it at all. It's a banger dig, but it's also true. It is hilariously accurate, and a joke only Narc can make. I guess I had a Facebook mom in me the whole time, and didn't even know hahaha
I'm a mom and yes I love this game so far, definately not some raiding end game rush type game, like you said it's cozy and meant to be a stress relief not something that causes stress Your crops don't even die if you forget to water them, they just stop growing lol
@@jamesd5767 *You're - it's a 5 letter word. Come on. And to your point: Mums can absolutely enjoy a casual game in their precious free time to get a bit of stress relief. You need to mind your own business, and STFU. 👍
@@jamesd5767 oh ye she better! Otherwise they'll end up like your over involving ass xD Hey mums everywhere, mr perfect is over here offering y'all advice!
I once read a Stardew Valley review written by a competitive FPS guy who said it was his guilty pleasure for unwinding after his regular gaming sessions. I think Palia could be like that as well, even moreso for the MMORPG crowd with its MMO-lite framework and the potential it holds for chill questing and adventuring with friends. There is A LOT they could do with this game down the line and I'm looking forward to seeing how it progresses. Really curious to know what all is on their longterm roadmap. Cozy games have really been exploding in recent years and I'm happy devs are giving the genre so much love.
Credit where Credit is due, you went into it with a very level-headed approach, you didn't bash the game for what it wasn't. You even aknowledged that the game is simply not for you personally. And yet, despite that, you still managed to see the appeal of it and why people might be interested. This kind of open-minded mindset is.... EXTREMELY rare on the internet, many people these days will call a game "Trash" just because it doesn't appeal to them specifically. And you know what? GOOD, not every games should aim to appeal to the vast majority. Because doing so usually prevents devs from trying something entirely new, which, as a results, prevents the Rise of entirely new genres. So yeah, great video man.
I was Interested until I found out it's 25 person highly instanced world. If it was a massive open world with real world player housing I'd be a lot more hyped
1. It's not an MMO. 2. It has the depth of secondary systems of most other games. 3. I like the "soft launch" approach and think more games should take that road. The faster players are in the faster the game will get better for the core playerbase that will see the game through.
1. its an mmo , its a sims mmo . But its not an RPG therefore yes its an mmo , a sims mmo but not an mmorpg. MMO means massively multiplayer online game which Palia is.
@@symphonixblades I wouldn't call Palia massively multiplayer since the instances are capped at 25 meaning we only see 25 or so people the regions aren't linked together. It's an online multiplayer game, but not massive by any means. I hardly see anyone running around. Usually when I see that amount of players running around in an MMO that's a sign that the game isn't active.
@@heartless_gamer well the devs call it a sims mmo also it's possible that closed beta having a maximum number of players have servers with less people I'm not seeing them keep 25 people maximum per channel once the game launches
I think Palia's goal is great. If it has enough content I think it's a really good casual game for those more caual players the ones that liked Second Life and stuff like that. Nothing wrong with that :)
No combat, not even a health bar? Yeah, you can miss me on that. Listening to this, I'm almost certain I was lured in long ago by the mention of former warcraft devs, and the "it's warcraft meets started valley" line. But I can see now, it isn't that at all. Not even close. Oh well, can't say I was very invested anyway lol
FYI You Do Not have to stay in bird eye view to edit. I use left "CTRL" and edit my house in 3rd person. Bird eye view is really only needed when moving giant objects like your house.
"A cop-out and an excuse to release an unfinished game"?? What are you talking about? The game is still in beta. Just entered its open beta phaze. No where near release yet. You have to judge the beta for what it is.
I think Palia being called a cozy mmo is actually a perfect description. Id say the Narc community are looking for an MMORPG rather than any MMO. Also, Session/Instanced based MMOs are valid and Open World MMOs have entirely different design philosophies. Palia will be a nice social experience for casual gaming which is half the reason why i look forward to AoC so I'll take it for now
I'm interested in giving it a try, I like the idea that someone is appealing to a more RP-centric or Animal Crossing-tier playerbase. If they do want more RPing, though, they might want to open up character customization a bit. I see there's purple people, and I bet a lot would like to play as one.
Its a sim mmo , mmo means massively multiplayer online game which Palia is that therefore Palia is an mmo . is Palia an mmorpg tho? Not really Palia isnt an rpg , therefore Palia is a sims mmo , not an mmorpg but still an mmo
It's a great cozy game. You come and go, without fear of missing out, falling behind on progression. You choose what you want to do. I've seen plenty of other players, and I love that it prioritizes your friends being on the same server.
I was lucky enough to get into the short CB a day ago, there are bugs and that is to be expected, the devs are VERY active on fixing issues as fast as possible, when it comes to crafting at your workbench and gatherable items, you can actually make a request for that item via the Social (O) and giving this to a request helps other players and gives you a currency (forget the name) so its a win win there, you can do up to about 5 requests and it has a timer of about 60min. It maybe a laid back almost zero battle not MMO, but it is worth playing if you like lore, crafting and exploring. One thing i noticed strait up was the fact that people were asking in chat how to do something that was explained clearly in the tutorial popups, if you are a skip it all type of person then personally i wouldn't play the game as you will be just asking how to do stuff in the chat all the time when you should already know it, but if your one that can skip tutorials ant spend the time to work it out then that is different. One thing i will say is i wish they would make it do you can keep the chat window open all the time, because if you don't check it you miss most of what is said, i also noticed that if you go to your plot (instanced house zone) you the chat is blank, so you cant see what has been said while in your instanced space. Anyway there are other bits and bobs that i could mention but this is already long enough and they are always changing/fixing things, all in all if you like that layback crafter/exploring type game PLAY IT on the 10th (OB) if you don't have an invite to the CB.
Is 25 players really considered medium at this point? I hope that number increases over time. That said there has been some mention of perhaps hosting your own server which would be amazing for friends.
This game is no MMO. It's a shared single player experience. You can't even build a farm with another player, like a significant other. All they can do is move around the things that YOU place. They cannot water your gardens, or anything of the such. Everything about the game is such a lie. All you do is My time At portia things, and when you go to town, you see other people, but don't get too comfortable, because next time you go to town, those players will h ave been replaced with new players, meaning you can never get to know anyone.
A correction is needed, you *can* speed up processing your resources by buying advanced lumber/smelting/etc crafting stations after reaching higher levels of those associated professions.
i would gladly play a sims-like MMO that has no combat. but 25 player servers???????? HAHAHAHAHAH WTF NO. and that is not an MMO. Neither is Destiny or PoE or all the other games falsely labeled as such.
@@Justplanecrazy25 sure, that would be a nice option. And maybe you could even customize the rules. But you should also be able to join official servers, with at the very least a couple hundred people.
You can't play it with her. You will both be building separate farms. She can edit the things you place down, but she cannot place anything herself and none of the progression can be linked with another player. There is no Co op.
@@Nightowl5454 I know what he said. There is literally nothing to do together, is my point, nothing at all. Other than stand in town and look at each other.
@2inverse469 you can gather materials and hunt, but other than that no there currently isn't bosses to fight or PVP so I do feel as though it's currently more like a socializing app, than an MMO/MMORPG game. I wonder about the game's profitability and if they'll continue to develop it when people finally get bored and stop playing because of the monotony.
Riiight?! I'm super excited. Seems like a great cozy game to play. I love having a bit of reprieve from all the shooters, and games centered around fighting/dungeon crawling. It's shaping up to be that perfect sort of game. Comfy cozy is my vibeee~
I have been playing for a few hours and I think this game was made with a very particular kind of player in mind, it's going to do okay if it reaches the right audience
In order to meet the definition of MMOG, a game needs to have at least 100 players. Palia's 25 players is not enough. So if the company behind it is claiming it's an MMOG, they are simply wrong and that's false advertising. Also, calling any game an "MMO" or a "massively multiplayer online" doesn't even make sense. Gotta add the G or game at the end. It's like telling someone to DPS.
I don't think so. It doesn't do much that other farming sim games don't already fill, but unlike those games Palia has live service baggage and isn't really an MMO as playable instances cap out at 25 players so you're not really sharing a world with hundreds-thousands of other players, thus not really an MMO. Another example of a game that uses "MMO" as a marketing and monetization scheme than actually offering an MMO experience that a single player/co-op game can provide.
Palia is distinctly lacking the feel of and MMO. It's empty, no really community feel. Interactions with NPCs are seemingly replacing interactions with real players.
I've seen people talk about this graphics style as fortnite or pixar but I'm getting "Jak and Daxter" vibes from it. And that's something I can get behind. Though this is not my style of game. I actually thing taking a chill relax and farm style game shouldn't be an time gated MMO.
MMO lmao. This game didnt even stand near any mmo. Its just a worse version of My Time in Portia (Sandrock) with some multiplayer functions. Overall its preety good for what it tries to be so far. However give it some time and it will go downhill real fast. Game is clearly made to be microtransaction hell. Starting from long build times, absolute grind to lvl up each job, ending up on cosmetics. So right now we can buy only cosmetics and to do it we need to go through the most predatory system we all know. Buying virtual coins and then exchanginmg em for item. But clearly we cant buy enough coins to get cosmetic, we only can get just below what we need or more than we need, so it will tempt us to spend money again so remaining points dont go to waste. Give it time and we will see XP boosters, time skips etc.
If someone got bored of stardew valley and like the game, they would love this game for sure. But yea I was looking for something like runescape, guild wars, albion online, WoW etc...
Tried this game when it released. I seriously struggle to see why I should play this over anything else in the same genre. The first thought that struck me is how incredibly dead the game world feels. It's just a vastly lesser version of any of the others, like Stardew Valley, Animal Crossing, hell even Disneys new game is better. And none of them have MTX in the game.
I started the game, thought it was pretty cool - and then couldn't get the rake to work and couldn't find help to make it work. So, I had no choice but to delete it. It seemed promising, and I'll definitely keep checking on the game every now and then to see how its coming along. :)
Now we can tell anyone wining about corruption in ashes of Creation we can tell them to go play Palia. Perfect game for carebears and I say that with no malice, as it looks like a good game for my friends and I to play while waiting for ashes.
Farming and romance usually arent in mmos unless its just marrying other players or the one case of star wars like 15 romancable npcs because ea had romance in all their games at one point I welcome more romance in games that arent boring visual novels lol
cozy games arent bad, but is there any kind of economy ? can i sell my super rare fish or what do i do with them ? yes im on copium heading to overdose
Single player is incredibly boring. I understand this is beta, but the single player experience is just not fun. And once I saw the time gating I just stopped playing. In games like FF14, BDO and even Genshin I always feel like : even if I'm playing alone, I know i'm at least working to get to a level where I can play with others or have more multiplayer options available. But Palia isn't like that. You're playing and doing things and quests in the game just for the sake of doing them. There is nothing to work towards in that way.
True... i have reached lvl 10 in several proffesions and still feel unsatisfied. Stardew Valley felt much more engaging and rewarding. In Palia all activities feel dumbed down, and ends up feeling like just a grind for the sake of grinding. Played it for a good week and am really getting bored fast now. Dont think i can continue this game. I have gotten more out of simple Roblox games than this sadly.
The life skilling content looks good and I'm trying to get a code atm. I like what I'm seeing in streams. But....I'm concerned about group content in the game. Streamers I asked didn't even understand me, when I asked them about it. Seems like doing something with others doesn't extent to much more then"Oh look at that" and telling them" Oh, you're xyz is so cute".
you are rewarded for doing a few things together in this game. if you help someone cut down a tree, you both get the wood. if you help someone mine copper you both get the copper. if you both shoot at a deer(you dont even need to land your shot) you both get the hide/meat.
If you fish with other people it gives you a boost. There are trees that can really only be cut down with the help of other people. You can give permission to people to edit your plot so a friend can technically help you decorate which is something people in animal crossing really wanted. My favorite part though is that you can cook with your friends too. c:
90% of my time giving Palia a try I had one question: does this game *really* need to be an online game at its core? Sure, there are lots of things in the game that work better with online multiplayer, but there are so many solo activities you do only for yourself that it feels like it should be an offline game with a few features that allow online multiplayer.
Gonna be honest, they need to pay the devs somehow. The fact they seem to be limiting this to outfits and outfits don't have stats is pretty fair. There are other outfits you can earn through gameplay. They aren't resorting to War Thunder's or WoW's practices. Seems pretty fair overall. Heck, Warframe is technically worse. You can totally p2w it, but that effectively skips content. So a lot of people will just earn that stuff by playing the game. You still have whales helping to bankroll the game and the user generated content you can pay for, various packs, etc. And I consider Warframe's model extremely good! I honestly don't know how they make money it's wild as a f2p user. So far this just seems to be clothing... So honestly, not a big deal imo.
one thing i kinda wish is to have an option to not play on a server where there are other players but in your own world. especially since my pc is not that good and i think it would lessen the lag a bit lol
The game is unique in its approach and looks promising, though it does have some.. interesting choices, which could be considered weird if not tone deaf.
