I'm highly resistant against most poisonous substances, it's also really hard for me to get drunk and pain killers at the dentists don't actually work on me... I would trade my natural resistance to not feel pain at the dentist in a heartbeat

@@what.5693 Think about it, is a natural resistance gonna stop you from dying in the event of some type of poison? In this day and age a natural immunity would probably be more of an inconvenience than anything else. Unless you live outside of a 1st world country it won’t do much to help you. Only thing it’ll do is have you wake up during surgery. That way you can get a good ass mf idea of what they’re doin and freak tf out while they’re doing it. Remember, you might be awake, but you’re high as shit. If your resistance is high enough to retain motor functions you’ll probably freak out of say something. If not, you’re just along for the ride. The most consistent and logical decision making doesn’t occur when you’re high as shit. So your reaction then leads the surgeon getting mad because the patient is awake (yes they get mad because it’s proven many of them have superiority complexes) leading him through his anger to think you do/did hard drugs that increase your tolerance to the drugs they give you. Then blaming you for waking up during surgery like you’re in control of it. Literally, the situation I’m referencing happened to my brother 6 months ago while getting hernia surgery. We use those exact “poisons” that D.A.R.E. warned us about all those years ago everyday in the medical field. A natural resistance should resists uniformly, not for just the bad shit.

I would like him to explain Rasputin, he said you can only build up a resistance to something, but Rasputin definitely pushed that to the point where it seems he was immune to cyanide.

***** He wasn't stabbed, he was poisoned and he was shot. After he was dead he was kicked in the eye and his cheek was shattered when they dumped the body off the bridge. There's a big legend around his death, that's why it seems like his death gets crazier and crazier everytime
@mrballoonhands5376

***** There was an earlier assassination attempt where he was stabbed in his stomach but it didn't cause his death and he made a full recovery
@squamish4244
@squamish4244 8 лет назад
***** Who knows what happened that night, the only witnesses were the assassins and after the revolution they told and retold the story to rapt audiences. But it really is a batshit crazy story if it has any truth to it at all. Apparently, Rasputin survived being poisoned with cyanide-laced cakes and an entire bottle of wine mixed with cyanide. Then he was shot point-blank and fell down 'dead'. Then he was kicked and beaten with an iron bar. Then after awhile he suddenly got back up, "foaming at the mouth", and attacked the guy who had shot him, ran out the door, and was shot three more times before he fell down 'dead' again. Then he was dumped in the river. When the police pulled the body out the next day he had water in his lungs. So he *drowned*. Alan Rickman's awesome portrayal of Rasputin in the 1996 tv movie shows the assassination and it is actually hilarious.
@mrballoonhands5376
@mrballoonhands5376 8 лет назад
+valar The more accurate story and the one I know is, he ate poisoned laced pastries and laced wine, then he was shot twice rendered unconscious, when he work up he realized what was happening so he got up and tried to run but they shot him one more time and he fell in the snow. They walked up to him and put them gun against his forehead and shot for one final shot. That shot killed. After he'd died one of the assassins kicked him in the face leaving an imprint on his eye. When they dumped the body off the he hit a pylon and broke his cheek. He was already dead when they found him.

There is a man (who is on RU-vid somewhere, I saw him on Outrageous Acts of Science once as well) who over a period of time poisoned himself with black mamba venom. He then let one bite his arm and hang on for a about a minute. He had so much resistance that he didn't even get weak, just put the snake back and went about his day.

I once had a food allergy to peanuts and apricots. When I was 9 years old I thought about how the flu shot worked and decided to take small quantities of roasted nuts and dried apricots. I got really sick the first 20-30 times doing it but in less than a year I started getting less and less sick from them. Now I can eat all the nuts and apricots I want. Sometimes you have to adapt instead of avoid. (When I said small quantities, I meant really small at first. Just the oils for the first few weeks.)

Somewhat related: DC's Poison Ivy -- in many continuities -- has an immunity to plant-based toxins *and* has blood filled with said toxins, to the point where her kiss or touch is almost instantly lethal. Starting with _Batman: The Animated Series_, she conferred that immunity to Harley Quinn. (In B:TAS they were hiding in a toxic waste dump; in the comics it's so Harley doesn't die when they ... "play".) Is it even remotely possible to have such a broad immunity (or resistance) to poisons, to the point where one is a kind of multispectrum Typhoid Mary? Or to confer said immunity? Remember, it's ALL plant-based toxins, a fairly diverse group, including some kind of fast-acting mold spores as seen in the recent _Cycle of Life and Death_ series and earlier. (Presumably it would also include the emulsin in bitter almonds that creates cyanide.) More recent versions of Ivy make her part plant, so her biology is already comic book rubber science. Let's also not forget her psychic rapport with plants, or her ability to make them move without anything approximating muscle fibers, or her ability to make plant matter grow even without root systems or nutrients much as the Hulk spontaneously gains mass. Or, for that matter, her "pheromone control" that amounts to mind control.

antibodies are really finicky when it comes to poisons they work but some of time cause side effects such as allergic reactions and very rarely ever cause yourself to get poisoned from the very antibodies it created. the body usually works for the time it is needed without planing ahead.

My Grandfather used to take arsenic in the spring every year. He would put a drop on his finger and every few days he would add another drop to a different finger, until he was putting a drop on each finger. He did because he mixed his own pesticide which had arsenic in it, so when the wind would blow some of it on him while spraying it wouldn't bother him.

I think this may only work if the poison is something where the smallest dose does not kill or damage you significantly OR is something your body can identify quickly enough (or even at all). There is a podcast called Poisoncast, they go into detail about a number of poisons. My candidate is ricin, not because of Breaking Bad as I have never watched it, but it is just so interesting to me, its mechanism of action.

+Tom Leonard oh, thanks
@lunargamer5261
@lunargamer5261 8 лет назад
+roninglx It's similar in a very superficial way. Talking about having a tolerance gives the idea that a bigger amount is needed to affect you in the same way. Vaccines work by showing your immune system how to identify a virus and allowing it to essentially make blueprints for cells that can destroy that virus. When you get infected, your immune system can use the blueprints to build attack cells that can destroy the virus right away. Instead of making it so your body can take more virus before getting sick, you gain a true immunity, so it shouldn't affect you at all. The problem with a vaccine is that there isn't just one virus that causes the flu. You can be immune to specific viruses that give you flu symptoms, but not "the flu." When a virus mutates, it may change enough so that your immune system doesn't recognize it, anymore. The chicken pox virus doesn't mutate as easily. That's why people need to get a flu vaccine every year to stay immune to the flu, but very few people ever get a second case of chicken pox.

There is also another explanation as to how Wesley poisoned Vizzini (Vissini?) without being poisoned himself. As we see in that whole sequence Wesley is actually an unreliable narrator (we cannot trust that he is telling the truth) so it is possible that he lied to Buttercup about how he survived and poisoned Vizzini. First off, let’s think about one important thing: how we smell. We smell things by having particles enter our nose and inside there, can attach themselves to receptors based on the shape of the molecule (So yes, when you smell crap, you are indeed inhaling crap). If Iocane Powder is scentless then it does not correspond to one of those receptors, and so, how would you know if you inhaled it? This is important because the inside of your nose is very porous and the blood stream is very close to the surface (this is why people snort things, it gets it into the blood stream faster). When Wesley asks Vizzini to smell the powder, it very well could have entered Vizzini’s nasal passage and once it was in his bloodstream, poison him. If we assume this, the rest of the sequence is Wesley stalling for time for the poison to work and the cups were never poisoned at all. This could also help explain Vizzini’s erratic and rambling behavior around the scene of drinking from the cup of wine and shortly before, his brain was already shutting down (due to the suddenness of the death and loss of motor control, I’m going to assume the poison attacks the nervous system of the victim). Conceivable?

I'm an example, I was born and created aside of a petrochemical pole, and one day we had to paint the house with diluted ink for wood, in a few hours with mask my mom started to feel bad for ink intoxication but she is ok, but it took me 3 das without mask to start feeling something, and not as bad as my mom

Can you please make a video about the scene in "THank you for Smoking" where the doctor tells the main character he can never smoke again because of a nicotine overdosage? I would love to know the science behind that. Although it's mostly biology, and I've seen you do more physics stuff, this episode seems to show that you are doing biology aswell...!

Why is it when Transformers convert from robot mode to alternate mode, their alternate modes are clean or in other words in complete sheets of metal unlike the toys which show the parts that need to Transform. Basically, how do the Transforming parts recombine with each other every time and there are no spaces present between them when in vehicle mode (like the toys)

so theoretically; you walk into a old west bar the man behind the counter pulls out a shot glass, fills it with whiskey, grabs a snake from under the counter, and expertly squirts its venom from its fang directly into the shot glass. would *you* take the shot?

reminds me of those mouses in Australia (because of course) who are in a constant battle against a group of snakes. the mouses are becoming more and more resistant to the poison of the snakes, so the snakes poison becomes stronger and stronger. these two are now one of the most poisonous snakes and most poison resistant mouse in the world. these snakes could kill almost every living with easy, except those mouse. sorry if i used the word mouse wrong. not native English, dutch and dyslectic.

I just want to share the information that my father almost died from poison ivy down his throat as a kid (note it wasn’t the initial plant oil that made it spread into his mouth and throat, it was the oils created from the poison ivy infection itself. Which is not contagious to others because it’s made from your system and blood)
@SyronJAG

What about Kyle Hill's hotness? Can I build up an immunity to that? So far repeated exposure isn't working.
