I have the Level.2 step over Clay version. I love this bike and have nearly 700 miles on it. It’s a smooth ride and my peak mileage is 56 on one ride. The battery life is amazing but my only complaint is the gears are a bit wonky when it gets below 2. I’m working crazy hours right now but when my job ends I plan to do an over 60 mile plus ride with my Uncle who also has a Level.2.

I did put an adjustable stem and a mustache handlebar. Still use the stock seat. Most rides are 5 miles before destination. I think about a softer seat after about 20 miles, but looking back 4000 miles, I’ve only done that maybe 10 times in a yr and a half.

Scott, this is one of, if not thee best review of this bike I have seen! Thank you for taking the time to put this video together. Questions. Can't remember if you mentioned this in the video, but which size bike were you riding? What is your height, weight, and inseam? It seems you could have raised the seat a couple inches given the bend of your knees. If you had the smaller bike, do you wish you'd have gotten the larger one? From your observations, it seems Aventon's display is terrible! The speed and distance were both inaccurate. Is there a way to recalibrate the display via the app? Did you feel any lag time between when you pushed on the pedals and the motor kicking in? Thanks again!!!!
@scotthardesty

Thank you for the compliment. I go deep when it comes to doing reviews on these bikes so it's nice when people notice. I have the large. I am 5'9" about 220lbs and 32" inseam. I like movies and long bike rides on the beach. hahaha. I have more confidence in the display than I do their app. Adjustments can be made in the display or app so I am sure I could fine tune it, but I wanted to review it out of the box. I thought I cover how soon the PAS kicks in the video but its fairly quickly. I often sell off some of the bikes I review because I just don't have the space for all them, but this one is still with me because I like it so much.

I just rolled over 4000 miles on my Level 1. I’m sold on Aventon. It’s definitely not meant to go off road much, that would be hard to accomplish due to where I live. I’m on city paths and roads everyday to work and local stores. I’m 70 yrs old and took a full time job 5 miles away just to ride the thing. In the process I got mentally and physically healthier. I never have gone throttle only, but it’s great for slow speed maneuvering when you don’t want the cadence sensor to lurch you forward.

I would definitely want the next upgrade to have the turn signals like I have on my Aventure 2, and offer some other colors than white or "pink" on the step-through model of Level 2. My first high speed "commuter" run (pushing it past 30 mph when I could downhill) with plenty of hills usage on my battery came in at 44 miles, so I was disappointed in your range test. I thought the thinner tires would do better. Currently I'm doing a test at moderate speeds on generally level ground to compare with my first test. I've gone 10 miles so far with gauge saying I'm still at 98%!! It would be nice if these indicators were more accurate, but I'm not unhappy with the ebike. I'm thinking I will exceed 60 miles range before this test is done. Cold temps and rain has limited my riding time lately. The RockBros trunk on your bike is exactly what I'd want for mine, but I can't find it for sale in a store. I don't do online buying, so my message to RockBros is get your product in stores!

Hey Scott, going to buy ebike next spring kind of narrowed it down to this brand because of your reviews. Now I just need to decide between this commuter bike and the Adventure 2 fat tire bike. I like the looks of the fat tire better, and maybe the cushion of the tires?... but I will not be on anything except for bike paths, paved and unpaved, but not any really mountain style bike stuff...(to old for that now). Since you've ridden both, which one would you recommend? Also was that the medium sized frame that you rode on the review? Also, thinking about the step over, not the step through..thxz ...For your input

I was on the M/L frame. Funny you should ask that question. The reason I had Aventon send me the Level 2 to review is because I often get that question, "Should I choose the Level 2 or the Aventure 2?" My next video with that bike will be the comparison between the two to hopefully help you decide. But from what you have told me, it sounds like the Level would be right for you.

I was making the same choice...like the look of the Adventure 2 but not much off road chances here. I did not ride an Adventure but did rent a Level 2 and loved it. Bought a white step-through Level 2 and got it last week...SO much fun. The suspension seat post with a fat seat are worth adding.

Hey Scott...been watching for awhile. I know you have had Adventures for awhile. Have you ever had them above 20mph on throttle and/or pedal?
@scotthardesty
@scotthardesty 3 месяца назад
Throttle no. They are designed to not go faster than 20mph. Pedaling, yes! 28mph or higher with the Aventures. You just need to download the app and increase the speed. If you have the Aventure 1, I have a video on how to do it.
@Mainstayjay
@Mainstayjay 6 месяцев назад
I have 9k on my Level Step-Through now and it is still operating like new. I do wish that it had the integrated lights like the Level 2 though. However, because of the display being the old version and not connected to the app the top speed might be just a bit higher than the Level 2 when unlocked and using PAS 5? Not entirely sure on that though. I did have an adjustable stem installed recently like you mentioned and went with Schwalbe tires a while ago. I used to get flats pretty often with the stock Kenda tires but only one so far with Schwalbe. From my understanding the Level motor is 500w consistent but has a peak power of 750w so I assume one would get that peak wattage in PAS 5? I haved owned an Abound for about a month now and have ridden that more than the Level since I brought it home. The torque of that motor vs the Level has spoiled me a bit. Really enjoyed seeing you review a Level!
@scotthardesty
@scotthardesty 6 месяцев назад
Yes, I believe the original Level might go a couple miles faster. Since it's a torque sensor, I believe the 750w of power would kick in if you were pedaling hard enough. I also assume would also get it at PAS 5. That torque on the Abound is no joke so I totally understand. 9k on your original Level is impressive!

@Mainstayjay
@Mainstayjay 5 месяцев назад
@@darrylphillips6301 I bought a second battery a few months into owning the Level. I bought the bike in May 2022. The most use has been put on the battery the bike came with but I did use the second one often. If there has been some diminishment of the range capacity in the first battery it is to small to be able to notice. From what I have read, the battery cells are typically good for 500 to 1,000 full charge cycles. At an average of 35 miles/charge, that equals 17,500 - 35,000 miles.

Scott you were one of the reasons I switched to Aventon (from Velotric, but I also had a bad experience with them). I purchased my Level.2 earlier this year and got it May 1st. I ended up getting their suspension seat, a Cloud 9 saddle and my god I use it as much as possible and it truly changed my life. I use it LITERALLY for everything except grocery shopping. I just passed 1,500 miles on it and it is still going super strong. I've had to change the tires from flats and I replaced the brakes (tried organic ones), but other than that Aventon is where it is at... My ONLY criticism is that I wished they would allow us to go to 35mph with PAS rather than 28 (I know, laws...) but that extra 7 miles would allow me to keep up with traffic much better).

35 mph with 28 PAS? These bikes aren’t designed to go that fast
@AdamasOldblade
@AdamasOldblade 27 дней назад
@@fivehundrediq5212 The actual motor is totally capable of doing this. Basically the point I was making with my original comment was that, it would be great to have that sort of power on straight aways. No matter how many bright colours I wear, headlights, taillights, helmets with indicators, people driving continually are going to user their phones when driving and there's nothing we can do about it. Where I live the "bike lane" is just a painted line next to the main road (about 3 feet). If a distracted driver looks down at their phone and swerves a bit, I could lose my life or be crippled forever. So what does this have to do with 35mph? Now that I think about it, not so much the actual speed, but more the initial acceleration. I have noticed when at a stop light with cars when I can push ahead of them they notice me far more (you can see them right next to you giving more room). However with a slower ebike, or any bike really, the tendency is to just hit the gas in a car and leave the cyclist in the dust and the "monkey see, monkey do" mentality of the drivers behind them kicks in, meaning, "oh they went fast, I can go fast" they don't SEE that the front leader of the intersection driver slowed a tad and moved to the correct side, thus letting others know. This and, living in Arizona, we have tons of bike paths that are very well paved, well lit and follow our canal paths throughout the Maricopa county sector. They go for miles and miles. So, yeah gonna admit here it's a bit of a jealously thing. It does bother me that companies like Nireeka and others unlock their ebikes to 35 mph and Aventon's onboard computer gets to 28 and you can feel the electric pedal die right away. If Aventon couldn't do 28 PAS, I'd at least love for them to push their throttle up to 25 mph. I had that on my previous Velotric and even though on paper it's only 5 mph more, the psychological feeling of riding an ebike at that speed FEELS faster.... Just like when I'm in my car I'll physically take a longer route if it means I have fewer stopping points.

Well done review here, for was very comprehensive! I've had a Level 2 step-through (identical to one shown in this video) for about 3 months and have put on a bit over 500 miles on it (with over 400 of those miles commuting to work). Overall I've been extremely pleased with the bike for it has extremely good range I've only once had to be concerned about running out of juice. If kept at the lowest assist setting 60+ miles (even in hilly terrain, live in Denver CO suburb so a lot of them) seems possible. Range is greatly reduced at higher assist rating but not needed for most trail riding (can rather easily attain / maintain 15 mph on level 1). Brakes are also very good (coming from someone use to hub brakes on a $200 REI mountain bike..). One issue I've had though think the lack of support of step-though design causes a wobble if you take your hands off the handle-bars. Wanted a high visibility color (not available in the larger size) & thought step-through design would be easier to mount/dismount on a heavier bike (twice the weight of my conventional bike) but sacrifices too much in stability. If had the opportunity again would have definitely gone for the step-over design (would seem well worth the 2 extra lbs.). PS - Unlocked assist to 28mph class 3 (from day 2). Only use for paved roads with bike lanes. Bike (unlocked) basically refuses to go beyond 30.5 mph in even on steep downhill with considerable effort in the highest (8th.) gear & considering stability issues such is a good thing. Should add I've never used the throttle, I just pedal.

Ever since Aventon pulled that Crap last year of throttling down the max speed on this model and others thru a firmware update and then forever denying doing it even though thousands of owners spoke out about it , I would never purchase from this company even though they seem to put out a quality product. It's all about the Freedom of knowing that I should be allowed the settings at the time of purchase and not worry about waking up to limitations put forth after the fact. And I think those doing reviews on this bike and not mentioning that are doing a disservice to their viewers though this was somewhat discussed earlier on this channel. It just seems to have been swept under the rug and never mentioned anymore by most of those doing these reviews since they're getting the bikes for free and don't want to bite the hand that feeds them. Aventon has lost my trust for good (and many of my friends that own them as well). Way to "Big Government" for Me. Your seat seems too low. Is there a reason why you ride in that incorrect position. Could you raise the sit....? How tall are you .....?

I'm 5'9" and I ride with the seat level that is comfortable for me. The seat can be raised. Riding this bike and the seating postion is not an issue with this bike.

Too expensive for just 20 MPH. Better bikes out there with suspension and up to 30MPH for the money.

The bike does 28mph. Only the throttle limits it at 20mph.
