WHICH DUCATIS ARE GOOD FOR STARTER MOTORCYCLISTS?
Hello friends! The question of the day is whether or not my Ducati Scrambler Cafe Racer, or any of the Scrambler Ducati lineup, is a good beginner bike. The Scramblers come in several engine displacements, from 399-1,079cc, running a large range to fit a lot of different needs. I've had my bike since 2017 and owned a 2007 Honda Rebel 250 before then, as well as having experience on a 2000s Ducati Monster, Honda CBR400r, and short rides on other bikes before purchasing my Ducati. What do you think? Start small and move up or jump into the deep end with a larger bike? What were your first and second motorcycles?

I currently have a 1200cc bike. A triumph. As far as “what bike to start on”, I’ve always said the only person you have to be honest with is yourself. CAN you be disciplined enough. WILL you be safe enough. You can lie & BS to the whole world, but at the end of the day- none of those other people are going to be the ones getting hurt because you wanted to be a cool guy & get a big heavy fast bike. Just be honest with yourselves people. If in your heart of hearts you think/KNOW you can handle something(big and fast). Go for it. If not, that’s ok too. In the end the only person that’s really going to lose anything is yourself. (Quite possibly your life 😳) 💯

Thanks for sharing and I agree with your perspective. Start small. Learn to ride something that is forgiving with mistakes. Also something that you're not concerned about if you drop it. It happens, especially when you're new. As for me, I learned to ride on my cousins 1975 Honda CB500T in 1980. That year I purchased my first bike, a 1980 Honda CX-500 Deluxe. Had a great time with it, put 15K miles on it in 2 years. Second bike was a 1982 Honda CX500 Turbo (1 of 3 that my local Honda dealer was allocated). I think that was my favorite bike of all time. It was so unique and so beautiful. Pearl white with gold anodized wheels. It was a head turner for sure.

I got a 2017 Ducati Scrambler Sixty2 as a first bike last year and I absolutely love it! I looked at a LOT of options before making sure it was 100 percent what I wanted.

I stopped by two dealerships in my area over the weekend and none of them had bikes I was interested in, in stock but one also sold Ducati's and I threw a leg over one of the 1100 scramblers and it felt pretty good. Your suggestion of being a good second bike made a lot of sense. Thanks for this and the target fixation video you just released.

I started with a 2023 BMW G310R last year. I’m still learning. We just went to the dealer to pick up parts for my husbands Panigale and they had a 23 Scrambler Nightshift. I’ve been looking into them so was excited to see it in person. Well, my bday is this month. When I sat on the bike just to see my husband told the sales guy we would take it! I’m so flipping excited, we pick it up in two weeks. I can’t wait to see the difference between the Ducati and the BMW. The best part is I get to keep both! I wasn’t ready to give up the Beamer. I’m still learning and I think the BMW is great for now, I’ll slowly ease into the Ducati.

totally agree with you. new rider took msf in december 2020. rented the ducati scrambler cafe racer around march 2021. it was definitely not a good beginner bike. main issue is the ergonomics. due to the aggressive stance and the seat, i found myself sliding forward every time i used the brakes. caused a lot of strain on my arms and wrists. i just could not hold myself onto the tank with my legs. again, i was pretty much a complete newbie so that's probably on me. i think the other ducati scramblers would be better fit for me. it is a lot of power but i liked it. keep up the great work.

My first bike was/ is a Rebel 500 and I can't recommend it enough. It is absolutely designed for city-living commuting, but it can get up and go on the faster back country roads. I've gotten it to top out at about 110 downhill, with the wind at my back, and I weigh almost nothing, and the bike was absolutely screaming so maybe don't do that. It's a very lightweight bike with a fairly low seat height so new riders can feel confident planting their feet at stops. It has enough power for anything you'd really need starting out but does have the potential to get you into trouble. I will say that, at 5'11'', I'm probably pushing the maximum height to feel comfortable on it. I think any taller and the rider would start to feel a bit cramped. As much as I love my bike, after having it for a little over a year now, my mind is starting to drift off to something with a bit more power and I think that might be my investment for next year.

thanks for giving us great information. I am thinking of trying out and riding a motorcycle but not sure if the new bikes are automatic or still manual transmission. I am a bicycle racer/ rider and a mountain biker but never tried a moto. Honda Rebel like you mentioned is a good starter bike for rookies.

My first bike was a Honda 125 dirt bike at 14. Second bike was a Yamaha 650 street bike. I really believe in starting with more of a beginner bike. The Ducati has about 72hp. I have a Triumph Street Cup with about 52hp. Way more user friendly but you won't outgrow it. I also have a Suzuki sv650 which has the same hp as the Ducati. Big advantage to those who had small dirt bike growing up. I did and it taught me a lot before riding on the streets.

Just started riding with a Rebel 250, getting a new R6/R7 once i get the hang of riding. Same i did with cars, started with a FWD 4 cyl 135HP car then moved up to a 360HP+ RWD V6.

Just got my cafe racer this year and love it, but I was over the hills for it when they came out with it so I had to have it. Absolutely agree a 2nd or even third bike, atleast for me. I started on small Honda CB bikes and grew to a 1000cc BMW (a 1977 R100) which has similar power and weight. That was more of a cruiser even though it looks sporty, the Ducati is more rowdy than anything else I have rode. I sub'd to check out the rest of your thoughts though, cheers!

Here in Europe I trained/learned on a MT-07, which has a lot of power and torque for a beginner, but I believe it has more to do with throttle control. However, I will start on a 400cc when I get my full license, because I think the MT-07 is a bit much. Awesome bike though, maybe not as much as a Scrambler ;)

Yeah the scrambler it's a cool looking bike, but agree not for beginners as too much go. Newbies need to spend a few years riding in my opinion on a way less cc bike to get experience. Looks like a great day for riding. Yeah the sound from that pipe is awesome 🤘

First bike Honda SS50 (I was 16 and what I could legally ride in UK) then Suzuki GT250X7 at 17. I have a Honda H100S11 and get as much fun riding it as my S1000RR/K1300R/M100 Panther. Anything that you fit well, are comfortable riding and makes you happy. What is more important, getting proper training, not as super sexy as an end can but helps keep you alive.

Ducati Scrambler is easy and fun to ride although lacks power, got rid of mine as it impaired my ability to ride my panigale which is more demanding.

How about 125cc bikes for beginners I have tried Honda shine my family has Royal Enfield in bikes it's heavy and grabs more attention Lol😂 so for starters 100 to 125cc would be fine right?

I definitely agree with you. I recently bought a scrambler 800cc as my first bike, after getting my license and practicing in other bikes, like the cb500f. I'd say the ergo is friendly for a beginner. You feel in control of it, but like you said, the throttle response, engine size, lack of more riding aids does not make it a good beginner bike. In my defence: I installed a kit to reduce its power and acquired a throttle tamer for it. Both definitely helps. Since and +30yo with a good career already, price and maintenance costs are not a deal breaker for me. Anyway, I don't regret buying it at all, and, just like you, intend to stay with it for a long time :)

Meghan The Scrambler is definitely not a good beginner bike! It has enough power to get a newer rider way over their head skill wise real quick. It's definitely a good second bike! New riders should stick with a smaller bike for at least a year IMHO. Your bike sounds really nice! Great video Lady! More, more, more!! Ride SAFE and BE safe Meghan!!! 🙌👏👌✌🖖🤙👍👋🙂

@@maximecaron3133 My favorite would be a Triumph Street Cup which you can find on Cycletrader with almost no miles. Another one is the Royal Enfield Continental GT which is a 650cc but in a nice size. Also look at like the Yamaha MT-03, the Kawasaki Z series.
