Hello everyone! For the past 6 months or so I have been using and loving the Revlon One Step Volumizer and Styler hair dryer. It has been life changing for me! It gives me a straight from the salon blowout that lasts for days. The downside is the brush gets VERY hot when on the high heat setting, but because my hair is quite course, I can't use the low heat setting. In this video I am sharing with you my tips for preventing damage from using the dryer.

My trick for using this: Do it in sections as you do. As soon soon soon as it feels mostly dry, switch to the cool setting to finish. For me, this is where the shine and volume come in. My hair doesn't look nearly as smooth if I don't do this. It also cuts way down on the damage.

Technically you are supposed to start using it when your hair is already mostly dry.

My hair has broken off everywhere from this styler. I love it because it’s easier for me but it’s not work losing my hair. Most of my front hairs are only 2 inches short now. I use mostly the low setting (it doesn’t work as well) because I noticed it got super hot.

That's very good to know !! Yes,never comb or brush your hair when it's wet !! As it damages the cuticles & removes them !! Is your hair fine ,or thick ? 💜🥁🐉🎤💞

Better than rough drying is to let it AIR DRY up to 75-80% before I start with the Revlon!! I find that by air drying, my hair is less frizzy to begin with the Revlon. I only wash my hair a couple times a week so I just choose to dry it when I know I have the time to let it air dry. I am like you, though, I always have to dry my hair on high, no matter which dryer I use.

This thing gets HOTTTT!! 🔥So hot it burned my neck with the hot air and I actually had to go out and buy burn cream! It also fried 2 sections of my hair after using only several times.. and it's at the root so I can't cut it off! So mad. 😭 If you have fine hair like me you need to use this on low or cool setting for sure!

I had long thick hair and I ended up with shoulder length hair, because of the Revlon Brush, because of the extreme Heat this brush produces all my ends got fried, I kept using and getting my hair trimmed and using all kinds of hydrating a d moisturizing products and nothing until my hair stylist asked what tools I use to dry my hair at home and she immediately told me to stop using it, she recommended the Dry Bar, I went to Ulta, got it and now my hair is happy and healthy. The Revlon one might give you temporary smooth results but it does burn your hair strands, Sorry but I rather have healthy long hair, its a no for Revlon and yes for drybar

I also have curly and coarse hair. Hispanic. Despite my blonde look, I am Hispanic. My hair goes well with the ✔ Reconstruction Masque Therapiste Hair Mask from Kerastase every other week. I use ✔ Joico PAK shampoo for colored hair. ✔ Silicone Bambu cream. I put ✔ Ciment Thermique Blow Dry Primer when hair is 50% wet, then wait for my hair to be damp. ✩✩ Once a week I leave this mixture for a day (sometimes overnight): ✔ Cresce Pelo mask, ✔ Coconut Oil, ✔ Castor Oil and ✔ Silicone Bambu. Melt Coconut + Castor oil, because Castor oil is very thick. After I mix it, I place in a little container and use for weeks until I need to create this mix again. I have a beach look for a day… not ideal… but it helps my hair gets all the good oils. I am turning 41 and realised I need to shower my scalp more often... :-/ so it helps to give a break from the blow dryer. Overall I totally agree with you! Section your hair, protection, hair salon creams (and variation. I learned that you hair benefits from getting those, so I have travel size of differents brands), and damp hair! My hair is done in 10 - 15 minutes and I have a long hair! Love your video! Great assurance I am doing the right thing!

This is my favorite hair tool ever. I’ve been using it for a year and half. It does get extremely hot so I turn it down to the low setting around my face and top section where it’s mostly color processed but use the high setting for the majority of my hair because of thickness/coarseness. This is a great styler and great tips for those looking for a new tool!

I’m so glad I found this video! I bought that dryer back in the fall. It is the best thing ever! In the winter I noticed my hair seemed much dryer than usual. While there are several reasons that could have been the cause, I started using a leave in conditioner in addition to the heat protectant. I also let my hair air dry about 80-90% before I start. It feels much better and looks like I came from the salon.

No matter what I do this legit kills my hair. The metal part becomes extremely hot and it's not true that it causes less damage. I tried this and it FRIED my hair. Then I took a break from it for a couple of months, got a massive haircut, and then tried using it again and my hair ended up absolutely dead once again. This damaged my hair worse than hair straighteners have in the past.

@@Hello61Jello the exact same thing happened to me. I cut my hair 6 months ago because it was so bad. I oil my hair every week now, use the right shampoo and conditioner and thank God my hair is finally growing and I see new hair growth. I’ve seen dozens of reviews and they pretty much sum up to the same conclusion. It’s good for instan short-term results. However, in the long run it’s definitely damaging to the hair. I would much rather invest in a good quality hair dryer and round brushes and master that technique. I guess it’s one of those things where short cuts are just not an option. Yes it will take a while to get the hang of maneuvering a dryer and brush, but I’ll take that over frying my hair out. Using a traditional hair dryer vs the brush tool gives you better results as you can select heat temperature( #1 reason the tool gets hot, the temps are preset and the brush just stays hot) and also you are able to switch to smaller brushes therefore achieving different looks and REALLY getting in there at the roots.

Awesome review! Been procrastinating on buying this hairdryer and now will give it a try. I have the Conair Rotating Brush and works well, but still find myself having to follow up with my regular blow dryer. I find damage is usually more of user error and overuse of a hair tool, but any heat styling tool will tend to do that without the right pre treatment. Anyone ever told you that you resemble Alexis Bellino a former housewife from Bravo's RHOC? Thought it was her at first... :)

Well... First of all, I can't wait until my hair is a percent air dried because it simply doesn't work for me; I'd be Lion King part 2 because of the frizz. I blow dry my hair with the Revlon with my hair damp and my hair lasts easy a week or more without the need of washing my hair too often. Second, I use it in High because in Low it does not do the job. Besides, I use the cold air botton to seal the straightening and it really works for me. I love this Revlon- lution..!😂🤣

I bought this after seeing your video. I had been using a similar tool by John Freida. But this revlon one seemed to be more powerful, which it was for sure. I was in love at first. Then a couple months in I realized my hair seemed frizzy. I also have thick, curly and coarse hair, so I was using high setting. I get Brazilian blowouts every 3 months. Recently I burned my hand in it. I wrote the manufacturer, and they actually sent me a new device, and a prepaid label to return the old one. I thought something must be wrong with it. I used new one for first time today and it works exactly the same as the one I returned. And now I’m seeing all these updated videos on the same issue. I always rough dry my hair, or let it air dry. Today I used it on low and I thought “this will take all day”. Surprisingly, it didn’t take too long. And my hair looks fine. Unfortunately, it’s gonna take a couple haircuts to get all the dead ends cut off.

I actually feel my hair has looked less damaged since I began using this dryer. I use both a leave in conditioner and a heat protectant. I also allow my hair to air dry for at least 20 minutes, usually more, before using the dryer. I do section my hair when drying, and I don’t overdry. I’ve found my hair is less wiry, much smoother, shinier, and softer than it was before I began using this product. I think that is due to the fact that I rarely used a round brush with my traditional dryer-it was just too awkward for me.

Hi Risa! Thanks for these tips. I have naturally thin, blonde hair and found that this dryer was making my hair frizzy. The Redkin Diamond Oil and their conditioning leave-in heat protectant cream and their regular heat protecting hair mist are what it takes for me not to be a frizz-ball and the most important thing is low heat. It doesn't take a lot of product since my hair is so thin that I usually don't have to wait long at all before it is dry enough to start working on it. I love the dryer and this mix of products does the trick. I thought it was just me! Thanks for the update! ♥

🍃🌸🍃 I’ve only had this dryer since December and I really enjoy the results. My thin hair definitely looks fuller. I have not had any damage so far, but I don’t use the high setting. Thank you, Risa, for all the info and tips. 🍃🌸🍃

I've used mine a few times now and love it! I let my hair air dry to damp and then spray with heat protectant. Think I'm ok.

My hair is very thick and curly. I just bought this tool. I use a heat protectant and use this tool on low and layer my hair in sections. The tool will turn off if it over heats. I then use smaller sections. I usually will use a straightening iron to do the top layer to make sure it stays straight. Them more oil. To protect from humility. 😁

My hair is coarsed and curly bcause I stopped the keratin treatments a while ago, so it takes a little time and muscle to work with it... 🤷‍♀️I've learned to use it in the low speed because I burned a piece of hair of the back of my head when used it in high speed. The results are the same, maybe a little more time consuming but totally worth it since my hair looks healthy. My hairstylist was the one who noticed it when I went to her to cut it.

Go to Sephora and get the Olaplex 4 and 5 ASAP! It completely changed my hair in a few washes/conditions. I also recommend the Briogeo Rosarco blow dry protectant. Amazing.

I would never use this tool again. It destroyed my hair, even with heat protection [ bumble & bumble, karastase) , 80-90 % dry, low setting always & blowout like once a week or every 2 weeks...and still fried my hair.

I have lots of wavy but fine hair about your length. I LOVE this dryer. Always wondered about it though since the hair lies directly or very close to the metal heating element. So far no issues here but only use it about once a week, rough dry and do use heat protection. Am able to use on low heat with great results. The hot was too much for my fine hair.

This works for me, but I rarely use my flat iron after drying with this dryer. I feel like it would be Overkill. If I do need the flat iron I use it at a really low temp for some smoothing on humid days. This dryer works wonders and actually helps my hair retain moisture without the flat iron. The other "issue" I have with it is that I find it doesn't get my roots really well, so when I'm done with the Revlon dryer and just blow the roots really well, literally takes like 30 seconds. And I never start with soaking wet hair.

several tips for this dryer using some kind of heat resisting or oil to protect the hair would be good. Letting the hair dry to about 70 to 80% air dry is also good unless your in a hurry. Use the setting on medium not high heat to help with less damage. Once a week or three times a month if possible do some kind of treatment on the hair like a mask of sorts to help nurish the hair. I am up in age and ive been doing this for a long time and i always get complemented on my hair and i do have color treated hair so i take extra steps. Any tool no matter what you use whether this revlon tool, a flat iron, or hair dryer all can potentially damage the hair but its how you use them to avoid less damage. I know these are not new tips of any kind but hopefully this helps someone who doesn't know.

Fantastic detailed explanation on what products to use with the Revlon hair dryer. You mentioned hair oil; but you did not say what stage to apply hair oil. I am assuming when hair is completely dry ?? Only on the end of hair ??. Is this correct?

My hair is kind of thin and after I got a haircut (my hair was sooo smooth) I started using this. Man it got really damaged much faster than anything else I've used in the past. It's only been two months since then but it feels like I've had horrible hair for 6 months. It speeded up the damage for sure. Glad to see this. Ty

l have very fine hair. l use the low setting to dry my hair. l also wait until my hair is 80 percent dry. l need to get a good shampoo and conditioner like you suggested. Especially since i do color and highlight my hair. My hairdresser said my hair is not damaged at all. l use the dryer twice a week. l only wash my hair twice a week. l feel i can attribute no damage to me using the low setting when drying. l must get the products you recommended.

Thank you for this. I have really strong hair. Lots of it but it is on the fine side. I did not dye my hair for a year or use a blowdryer. Started using this on high..should have used it on the lower setting and as a result I had breakage but just on the front pieces. Never used the low setting that was my problem because the heat output from this is sooooooo hot. I have had my hair highlighted blond years ago and did it like 4 times in one year (I am level 3 or 4 naturally) never had breakage and this one on virgin hair ..breakage! Thanks for your video so appreciated. I love this tool but I think I was just not using it correctly.

I have been using this dryer since you recommended it. It’s been a total game changer for me too. I have the European version and I don’t find it gets too hot. I also have long waist length colour treated hair and I also am obsessive about hair care, using exclusively Olaplex products. I wash my hair in the shower, wrap it in my twisty, then do my makeup so that the hair is almost dry by the time I dry it. My hairdresser is amazed at how healthy my hair is……… It’s an amazing tool…thank you for recommending it!

I am planning to buy one from France.... since you said the European version doesn't get as hot... would you recommend I buy it for my thin fine hair? Because the only thing keeping me from buying this product is the concern of heat damage.

People either love or hate Olaplex. Add me to the hate group. I think it is one of the worst products I have ever used. Yours looks really healthy and my hair is also highlighted. If you read the reviews online at Sephora and elsewhere it seems to be a love it or hate it. It has also been associated with hair loss which is troubling to me. I found it weighed my hair down, made it less shiny and dried it out over trme. Definitely not a fan. I prefer Kerastase products but also love Aveda Shampure as a lower price point product. Have yet to find any Redken I love.

Yes !! We know that combing ,or brushing wet hair is no no as it damages / removes cuticles of hair !!! I always wonder why hair stylists do that !!? Lol. So ,it totally makes sense to start styling after just blow drying ,or air drying ( not good ,though as it absorbs germs in the air & grow the germs on scalp to smell bad ! ) 1st to 80% dry ,or so like you suggested ,then start using ( or blow drying with a regular roll brush ) this tool ! But, many might think then the name is misguiding ? Lol. But ,hey ! Better protecting our hair !! Lol Also anything is very hot can not be hair friendly ,I think ! I am so interested in this product ! 💜🥁🐉🎤💞

I'm so late to the party but I have to say your technique for "Rough Drying" is GENIUS!!! I've been tossing and turning about purchasing the Revlon One Step (or possibly the new version) but I have fine, thin hair and some loss (thanks for nothing, Menopause), and have been nervous about spending money on something that might make matters worse. I have hope that using my regular dryer for Rough Drying (I use Low setting) will allow me to use the Revlon for a short amount of time w/out hurting my poor ole locks. Wish me luck and thank you!

Hi! Did you finally purchase the Revlon? If so, do you like it?
@thendrix58
@thendrix58 Год назад
@@Amy-fk5we Yes, Amy, I did! I bought it at Ulta for $70ish only to find it at Costco later for $50 (Phooey but oh well!) Having never used anything like a “brush dryer” type, I was a bit spastic at first. It’s fairly large so it took me a while to figure out the arm gymnastics (especially drying my hair in the back)! BUT once I got the hang of it (and hopefully I’ll get quicker at it), the results were amazing (truly). It makes my white thin locks look super shiny. I save the One Step for special occasions. (That’s because I’m lazy. Haha) Hope this helps!

It’s because people are using it on wet out of the shower hair. Just like any heat tool too much is damaging. Let your hair air dry 75% before you use this or use a blow dryer on low heat until it’s 75% then use this
