I've been riding bikes for 45 years, and I'm now 60, and I absolutely love my Trident. It exceeded my expectations in almost every way - fast enough, great sharp handling, comfy, nice quality components, and to my eye good looking. It's not your typical UJM. Great vid fella 👍

I just got my license and the Trident was on my short list but I fell in love with the RS 660 so I got that. If you have significant off-road riding experience and have enough discipline to ride within your limits you should be fine with a 660. I live in Sweden where the training is thorough and even included 4 hours on a track. I was really careful when I started out and continue to do slow speed and maneuver training. At the moment I only have 1000 km under my belt but I feel comfortable and confident on it now.

I just bought this bike a couple months ago, my first bike with minimal experience riding. It’s been a wonderful bike to learn on from my experience, kept it in rain mode for a while until i got more comfortable and confident. The weight is not an issue at all being 5’10” 165lb (24y/o), easily able to flat foot the bike, but when you twist that throttle you better be ready. It’s very appropriate for a disciplined and responsible rider as a beginner bike in my experience.

I commented on the last trident video, but I started riding this year on this bike. I’m 24 and had little to no riding experience before taking a MSF class. I’ve never owned any particularly fast cars, but have been a habitual speeder since I got my license. I think overall it’s a very forgiving bike that lets you have a good amount of fun. Also has made me a triumph fan and a lover of triples forever

I agree with yam. An older beginner who's had fast vehicle experience , absolutely....that fits me. Got a z400 and realized long hwy riding wasn't suited for it. Found the t660 and got a more comfortable , higher end bike that handled what I needed.

My wife is 5'4", weighs 120 lbs and this is her first bike 😅 but she loves it. She's definitely very timid on it (I out pace her everywhere and I'm on my Z400, which to be fair, she rode for a month before we got her bike). But all that to say, she handles it fine. She's able to put the balls of her feet on the ground confidently, and she loves it.

I started on a Trident, I think Yam touched on something I think is a huge point for being a good beginner bike. For enthusiasts the throttle being “muted” or delayed pointed to be a good thing or a bandaid for my beginner skills. I haven’t moved onto a different bike yet so I don’t know if that’s negatively impacted my throttle skills but in the beginning it was a plus. Great first bike.
@knomesaynmafk4789

Even on the full power version I was surprised to actually see the maps and that when throttle is open x amount say 65% the throttle body was only opening to like 40%. Coming from a cable throttled bike I absolutely hated it so I changed it in the maps so the throttle body is opening within 10% of the throttle If that makes sense. It does make the throttle super touchy tho. Then I put the 53hp map on rain mode so I can switch between full power and restricted

I started on the Ninja 400 but only had it 3 months and found it to be too uncomfortable at 6'3. Traded it in for the Trident and am really enjoying it. I find it easier to get along with and more forgiving. Less jerky throttle. I'm 45 so I can definitely see this being too much for someone under 25 as this bike has much more power and will get you to speed very quickly. But for me, I wish I got this bike to start with as I find slow speed so much easier on it due to balance and throttle. Self canceling indicators certainly help for us newbies too!

Yammie makes some good points, we are not all alike, talking about shapes and sizes, but the mentality also plays a big part, some would be fine to begin on a 1000cc bike (would not recommend), but others should not even be allowed to walk a public sidewalk. Talking about hp and displacement, when he talked about that, i thought to my self, yeah so true, you would not put a beginner on a Yamaha RD350, it only has bout 50hp but it would most likely kill a new rider. ;).. Great video, thanks.

I'm a new rider and have a Triumph Bonneville T120. It also has ~80 HP, but is 100lbs heavier. It also has considerably more torque than the Trident. I considered the T100 at ~65HP, but the 6th gear, and dual front disks on the bigger bike was the deciding factor for me. I'm in the beginner+ category and consider the T120 to be a good beginner bike for me. I'm happy that I went with the bigger option.

This has been my entry motorcycle for the last about year and a half. I've been really happy with it. I was both mildly concerned about the power but also concerned about outgrowing smaller bikes quickly. The Trident has been a great balance of enjoyable and usable power without being overwhelming in those crucial first few months of not knowing wtf you're doing lol. Throttle response is smooth and predictable. And it only gets more comfortable as you grow wit hit. Great video and love the insight of age in relation to responsibility with the power lol.

@@carlosvejar3938Nope! Has been a great experience the whole time. I put around 2k miles on it and loved it, I think this bike is a great second bike if you have some experience but don't want anything crazy, this bike can easily do 100 no problem and can get you killed, I wouldn't recommend it to a beginner rider but would to either an intermediate or a returning rider who hasn't ridden in a while.

Would love some thoughts and comments on this if anybody is willing to give it. I'm currently on a 2018 MT07 and I'm planning to switch out within a year and the Trident 660 is on my list. I'm only 5'3 and riding around Malaysian traffic is such a headache when you have to tip toe to squeeze between cars. Don't get me wrong, I love my MT07 but the overall suspension feel is really lacking. Not planning to go closer to the liter bike market because well, it'll be too much for the kind of daily riding that I do. Any thoughts on whether the Trident would feel like an upgrade over the MT07?
@alvhix
@alvhix 6 месяцев назад
First of all the Trident is in the same category as the MT-07. The suspension in the Trident is a little stiff, you will suffer a bit in unstable roads. The pros of the Trident you should expect are the power delivery, the triple engine which has an amazing sound, the motorcycle style and the overall quality. It really depends on what are you looking for, if you expect to do a lot of city riding with some weekend county roads then this is your bike. If you expect sporty performance, possibility to enter a circuit, then better go for a Triumph Street Triple 765RS or the MT-09 SP.

When you talk about "beginner" riders, is it correct to assume you are talking about an American context? In the UK you wouldn't be able to go above a 125cc bike without a full licence and to get a licence you'd have to pass a machine control test and a separate road test on a 600cc motorbike. So when you talk about someone getting their first bike, is it safe to say you are talking about people who haven't done a course on a 600cc?

125cc bikes are beginner bikes. You learn and get your first basic licence on them, then graduate to 500-600cc bikes for your full licence. I'd say that people should ride a 400-600cc bike as their first bike, heavily dependant upon how that bike is tuned and what type of rider it is aimed at. 600cc bikes are middleweight bikes really. American cruisers, like many things American, blow everything out of proportion.

I've had it for about a week, and the few days i've been able to ride (its getting real cold in PA already) i've loved every second of it. This is my only Triumph, but i can say that I'm a Triumph simp now.

got the 2021 Trident 660 as my 2nd bike . . . might sell it now after 2.5 years & 7500 Kms. . . . may be replaced by the Aprilia RS 457 (could be my 7th bike purchase in 3 years) sold my 1st bike - 2020 KTM 390 Duke after 3 years & 6500 Kms. . . . will be replaced by Triumph Scrambler 400X (receiving delivery on Tuesday) 2022 Hayabusa Gen 3 is my 3rd Bike 2023 Ducati XDiavel is my 4th Bike 2023 Yamaha R15 (155cc only) is my 5th bike, which should've been the first, .... acquired it only because of the Brand, as MT09/MT10/YZF-R1 are not available in India. Loved the old school look of the 2024 XSR900-GP displayed at EICMA 2023 . . . . . I had a Yamaha RXG135 between 1997 & 2004 ... so technically, the R15 is my 2nd Yamaha

It's like an MT‐09 , too much power if it's your first bike and no experience.

Not really , you see , there is a catch ! You can limit the power on any newer motorcycle very easy . It's about 50-60 $ to restrict it and even less to go back to original settings ! I'll get an XSR900 and restrict it to 70-80 bhp , that's gonna be nice !

No its not 🤣 I went straight for a Triumph Rocket 3R. That's 2500cc. Jist spend the first few weeks or months learning the capability of the bike and myself.

I am trying to focus on what Yammie is saying but that damn bike gutter in the end of the video is distracting me so goddamn much. What kind of death wish would you need to have to use that thing? I'm all for bike infrastructure but that's just silly wtf.

I started on the old street triple 675R which is way more sharp than this thing. After all it had 26 more horses. In the year I started the 675R was a little too much but perfect for 2 more years and some trainings and trackways I did on it but in year 4 i swapped it for a Speed Triple 1200RS. I tried the Trident when my Speedy was for inspection Anni would recommend it for every beginner who is not a complete idiot. It is very easy to ride and the power is far from too much. The only rider it might be too powerful for is a under 21 year old with no experience. For those I would recommend to start on a 250 or a 400.

Most people on RU-vid are interested in making money, not giving it away. Giving away expensive motorcycles sounds crazy to me. I don't understand why he would give away expensive motorcycles. Money is hard earned, it does not grow on trees, that's for sure. It's better to save your money for a rainy day.

got a 2023 Trident 660 as my first bike and its ok but being fairly diciplined with the throttle i can confidently say i regret my purchase... as soon as i get my licence i will buy something different with a little more power. in hindsight the best alternativ is a MT09 sp which i was close to buying but i went with the trident because it seemed like the safer option. The MT09 ticks all the boxes (except for looks) and if you're worried the power is to much just put it in mode 4 and the power drops to around 80WHP i have no previous riding experience when i bought my trident and i should have listend to my friend that said 80 horsepower is a bit low and you'll get bored, he was right. ps the exhaust sounds like shit even with an aftermarket can
