Is the Xbox Series S STILL Worth it in 2024? 

The Xbox Series S is a sweet spot for gamers who is looking to get into current gen gaming, for those who are on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 4 Slim, and especially Xbox One, Xbox One S players this may be the console for you. The Xbox Series S doesn’t have true 4k gaming, but it can upscale higher than 1440p. Quick Resume allows you to jump between 7 to 9 games where you left off at within seconds, fast load times, Ray tracing, gaming at up to 60 to 120fps, backwards compatibility from 3 generations of Xbox, and Smart Delivery meaning you get the Xbox Series X/S edition of a game free if you own the Xbox One version of the game, besides sports games and games published by Rockstar. The Xbox Series S has supports for 3D Spatial Audio, which means it makes watching movies, Tv shows and gaming sounds like your inside of the environments. The Xbox Series S allows you to stream 4KUHD content on Netflix, RU-vid, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, on TV streaming apps and TV shows. The Xbox Series S has a web browser built in called Microsoft Edge which runs on Windows 11 software. The Xbox Series S for the price is a very good deal.

I bought my Series S in early 2022 when it looked like the chip shortages would never end and was using it in conjunction with my OG 1080p 500GB Xbox One for disc based games. Fast forward a few months and I was unexpectedly able to snag a Series X at retail. But it's worked out well since I have the Series X in the living room hooked up to my 60Hz 4K TV and have the Series S in the spare room hooked up to my 12-year-old 1080p TV. I am an Xbox gamer going back to 2004 and have many games on physical disc so having the Series X is pretty much essential but I also own a lot of games digitally now too and the Series S has been a great experience for those. I hope Xbox as a brand can turn their fortunes around since we need a competitive balance in the console market.

The Xbox series S is perfect for those who don’t play a lot of video games. You can buy it for a kid and they will be happy with it.

I primarily play sports games, madden & 2k, the only reason I am switching is for ncaa & gta, worth the x or get the s with extra storage?

the series s is a great console but without the disk drive it limits you to only playing digital games . Its alot of games that you can no longer purchase or play from the digital store but if you have the disk you can still enjoy them on the series x . Just to name a few , The Orange Box, Driver SF , Transformers ect...

I paid 219.99 with 3 month of game pass at target a few months ago.

The only thing that I do not like about the series S so far is it does not have an optical audio port and I run mine through a projector that only has one HDMI which goes into my Xbox and there is only one HDMI in the Xbox as well so I don’t have a way to plug my audio into my projector or Xbox

It’s definitely worth buying in my opinion. I’m enjoying my Xbox series S.

What monitor is that?

While I find a lot of enjoyment in my Series S, there are some titles that look less good even on a 1080p monitor compared to Series X, let alone PC. Forza Motorsport sometimes has some weird optimalisation decisions (missing shadows, overdone blur in cutscenes) Elite Dangerous runs smooth (a notorious resource hog on PC), however the anti-aliasing is just ugly, again compared to Series X. Immortals of Aveum is just a bad port and that studio will not repeat that mistake. But the biggest issue with the white Series S (and I am surprised that the video did not mention it) is the SSD space, which lets you store only two (bigger) titles. And maybe a third one which is small enough. This actually breaks the 'such a good value with Game Pass' argument as you cannot exploit the value of the Game Pass having to constantly juggling with SSD space, and deleting and redownloading you third favourite game. I had made my homework diligently purchase and together with the white Xbox Series S, I invested in an external 2 TB SSD, from which I play the Xbox One titles directly and keep the Series X/S optimized titles only on the internal SSD. And it is just good for me, but your mileage may vary. I am so surprised that nobody commented on the kitty who jumped in for some sim driving apparently...

I think once the digital X comes out next month for $399 it will be the better deal as it will have the full power of the X. I will probably sell my S for the new digital X.

Bought mine 2 weeks ago. 1tb one for £300. Brilliant machine. I'm not a big gamer but this will do me. Don't need the X. Amazing graphics and gameplay.

I love my series S carbon black I was against it all digital but now I would not traded some games are really cheap in the Microsoft store

It's also a great emulation machine. Which is a nice extra if you're interested in doing that. I think you just have to pay a one time fee to Microsoft to unlock dev mode.

If I use my ps5 as my main gaming console would the series S be a good investment ?

I got one for some Xbox exclusives and to use as a side console to PS5. I’m really not too thrilled with mine. I kind of knew that it would eventually turn into a 30 fps machine seeing that new games are just more demanding, but I thought at least Xbox exclusives would run at 60 on this thing. Not the case unfortunately and as more newer games are coming out it’s very evident that the S is too underpowered. Microsoft should have just released the X and X digital. My S basically only gets used now to play old games with fps boost or to watch tv. Otherwise I’m just using PS5. I’d be pretty ticked if the S was the only console I had though. Great little console for kids. Cheap, quick…just unfortunate to have to rely on sales from the Microsoft store.

Series s > Ps5, series x or pc. Why? because of price to performance ratio, game pass versatility. Bro wtf? Series s is no joke with gamepass included I've played over 100 serious AAA and AA games. I only play tasteful games, plague requiem, star wars jedi fallen order, survivor, halo infinite, gears of war 4 and 5, forza horizon 5 and motorsport, lara croft trilogy, Sea of thieves, diablo 4, control, mass effect, deadspace, dead island, resident evil 2 and 3, hellblade senua saga and 100's of more serious to play titles. Its no kid machine, if you think its for people who don't play much games then ps5 is people who do not even play games as ps5 costs a penny to buy games that you like especially third party games which are more than 600 are on game pass for free and is around 2k-8k on playstation. So i think playstation is something for kids whereas xbox series s is for serious gamers who don't give a shit and want to play lot of titles. I play 3-4 games each day and by the end of the month i delete them and just download new titles, or sometimes if my friends come it would take half and hour to download 2k nba fifa or ufc, or split screen titles or any multiplayer game ( which are paid on ps5) and just delete them the same day i downloaded. So picking up a game and playing is more easier than buying a game and looking for sales and paid games too are cheaper if you own game pass ultimate then compared to playstation store or steam.

Xbox Series S and even the Xbox One are great budget consoles if you dont want to pay full coin for a PS5 or Xbox Series X.

So my humble opinion about the console comparison with the Xbox series s is this. I had my PlayStation 5 since day 1 release & although I did enjoy it with its power & graphics I got completely burnt out from Sony products from spending more than enough money on controllers alone I could’ve bought a whole other PlayStation 5 so I cashed it in used to switch back over to Xbox after 10+ years on PlayStation. I picked up the Xbox series S 1T carbon black & I can confidently say I do NOT regret even downgrading. The LFG system alone with Xbox is more than enough to get enjoyment out of games. The 120fps & HDR isn’t a noticeable difference. I’m 100% glad I switched over from PS5 to the Xbox Series S.

I wish the series s was just a disk less series x. gimping development between 2 machines for exclusives and then a ps5 if its third party is just annoying. Well I wonder what games would be if it was just the series x which is a capable machine. That senua hellblade 2 is out soon. I do own a series x mainly for backwards comparability. This gen is dumpster fire. Were 4 years in almost and just starting to see what these machines could can do. I wonder what the ps5 pro will do with its upgraded titles? With how bad this gen is for microsoft will they push out a new machine sooner? at this rate will the exit hardware altogether and just focus on streaming services. Off course the series s is a great entry for this gen. Duh its super cheap and games are required to be catered to it. In my country Xbox series s 1TB is 430 €/$ and Playstation 5 slim digital 1TB is 450 €/$. But I can find used Xbox series s 512 GB for 165-180 €/$ and for used PS5 price is from 330 €/$ to 400€/$. New Playstation 5 is much better deal in my country.

Wrong... I have gone through my Series S for the last year, and just upgraded to Series X last week. Have gone back to every game I played on the S, and almost every optimized game looks far better. And yeah, if you are a teenager grab a Series S. If you have any sort of decent job at all, get the Series X. It's worth it. Games look alot crisper. No, fallout won't, but it's nearly TEN years old, so why would it?? 😂😂. As far as Starfield goes, it runs garbage on both the S and X, even with the new update with performance mode...
