What Romeo is putting up is similar to Plaswall. We originally wanted to do that with our build in Bukidnon, but the builder said we lived too far from the city and they couldn't do the work here. As it turns out, it would have been immensely cheaper per square meter and would have been MUCH faster to build than the traditional CHB. We could have been all done and moved in before the pandemic hit. Instead, our construction got halted and then later abandoned by the builder. We had to finish everything on our own and it ended up costing a lot more money. As a result, we didn't end up with quite what we wanted, and we're still working on projects to finish up the property (over 3 years since we started...). At least we're getting things done and there will be an end to all of this. In the mean time, it is keeping us busy. Love your videos and ideas!

This could be used as the frame but I would not use it as the pool skeleton. That should be a monolithic cast pour over continuous steel reinforcement.

How do you enjoy the Philippines in a gated wall trips to Robinson or SM for the groceries. Right now I am throwing a party for the guys who poured our house bucket by bucket room at a time. I employed workers for a month. Christmas time. Floor done. They think this is a lay off dinner. I said no way. We will build our fence. I am with the people, my wife's other house a mansion upon poverty. We looked at a gated community. She had a property in Antipollo. At this very moment there are just ordinary fillipinos in my unfinished house. Children people I don't know. We rented a karaoke machine running an extension cord. This is fillipino life. People too shy to eat. No way I have work for you 4 guys.

That last formworks wall construction method looks good (and saves in so many ways, i.e. time, likely competitive in regard to pricing, etc.)... Sounds like you've both been busy, nice to meet others who are expats like us... Meanwhile... Watching the USA take on The Netherlands tonight here in Dubai, should be a good match... Grill fired up, beer in cooler, and have some fresh meat to cook (plus right audience ready to enjoy)... So... You and Ness have a great evening and hope you can catch the match too.... Take care you two! 🙏🙏🙏 👍😎👍

James if my calculations are correct a typical ranch home should only take 6 months using that wall panel technique. Thanks .

Quick question, looks like some houses have a big footprint compared to lot size. Did they go easy on the footprint/lot requirement? I would like to build a 400sm footprint on a 750sm lot for instance.
@MyPIDream
@MyPIDream Год назад
We are in a "Farm Lot" zoned community. The house footprint and any auxiliary buildings can not exceed 25% of the total lot size. I know sometimes it looks like the houses are more than 25% but rest assured the HOA Engr makes sure both the plans submitted by the builder as well as physical measurements make sure this policy is not broken so that the community continues it's zoning as Farm Lots.

First rule of any bricks/hollow blocks aac blocks wall building is to over lap the blocks to the centre like you discussed to distribute the load and support strengthening etc if you dont know that regardless of the type of block you shouldnt be building a wall fullstop But here sadly they will tell you they can do it even if the have no understanding of it just like the can all concrete but have no understanding of cold joints then wonder why it cracks The owner of this house is lucky you where on the ball
@myrrhavm
@myrrhavm Год назад
I remember seeing those discrepancies and concerned about the work. My neighbor was having some work done and they too did not place rod on the upper levels of block and I informed them that the slightest earthquake that those top tiers would be on the ground. They also had to take two courses of block down and about 100’ or more to fix it. People need to take a more proactive role in what’s being done to their homes and do some research of their own to protect themselves.
@garlandlew6408
@garlandlew6408 Год назад
I tell people to set up surveillance cameras during the build out and or be there daily to supervise. No work is completed unless your there. Its common for people to sell the materials from your job site in the Philippines.

@MyPIDream

If I had to prioritize on a bungalow style house, I'd probably choose ACC, Gradtiel, then CHB in that order as my preference. I really like the insulation factor in the ACC blocks.

Really impressed by the concrete board system. It must cut construction time massively. Only worry is if a flaw occurs in the pour how much would that compromise the integrity of the wall? Especially as it would be hidden behind the panel. Look forward to seeing the finished product. I bet he will have the top end fit and finishes. Stay safe and James keep out of that sun!!!!!
@MyPIDream
@MyPIDream Год назад
It would appear to me if there were a mistake or problem the corrective acton the this type of construction would not be much different from either of the other methods I've discussed in the Home Build Series. It's a matter of cutting back into the cementitious wall, making the repair then covering it with a more traditional type of plaster coat/skim coat in that specification location.
@garlandlew6408
@garlandlew6408 Год назад
I'm based in Davao. I met with this company in the area. This system being shown is easy to duplicate. Both the foam board material and the cement board can be bought to replicate it. It comes in 4x8 sheets ready to go and its about 44 USD. per sheet which has the two sides of cement board separated by the foam piece of material. The issue in the Philippines is that none of the builders are using insulation in their concrete walls and the average wall is 4 inches thick. I built a concrete pour in place wall that is 6 inches thick using tierods and form board. I will put in two inches of foam board insulation on the inside wall on my next project, so the heat will not transfer into the interior side of the wall. It was difficult to find foam board insulation in the past but now its easier.

Great video James and Ness. With those new cast walls, they are load-bearing. I did have one question though, I've seen a lot of construction that uses columns. Will he have any "master" columns in his build? In addition, given the high winds during a typhoon, will his exterior walls be considered "shear walls" in the traditional construction sense? I really enjoyed your build videos highlighting the different techniques now being used in the Philippines!

@@MyPIDream James, I have one additional question! During one of your earlier videos when you introduced us to the AAC blocks, you had mentioned that there was an issue with mounting things directly to the wall given the nature of how they were made (not load bearing). Now with this video you introduced us to the these special forms with a special backing that requires less finishing. Can you also ask how these walls also work for mounting things like TV mounts? I know there are foam blocks in there, but that concrete board might provide enough support if you accidently hit one while drilling.
@timgunlover2050
@timgunlover2050 Год назад
Quite interesting! Do they use a concrete pump truck to pour? I see the workers mixing concrete on the ground with shovels! Drives me crazy.
@MyPIDream
@MyPIDream Год назад
The walls will be poured manually using the portable mixer to save $$/PHP. Normally the ReadiMix truck is only used when a large area needs to be poured in a short period of time.
@autodallee4527
@autodallee4527 Год назад
Another enjoyable and informative video, I have a question / concern about the weight of wet concrete that is going to get poured into the cavity of those walls, especially if they are going to be adding another sheet.
@MyPIDream
@MyPIDream Год назад
This is a particular question I want to pose to the contractor as my experience with concrete always tells me that you have to be extremely careful regarding weight of concrete vs form works. I'm going to make an educated guess that the wall forms comply with the safety requirements for such pressure as these have been used and are a standard in the industry.

Hello James First and most important, Good morning, Ness... Please ask Romeo is the walls of that builds are structurally sound to build a second and even a third floor supported by the walls. I would think so since it is in a sense a poor concrete wall, but it is worth asking. We finished up our casita in June when we were last at home and now it is time to start planning the Main House build, 250 Sq Mtr two story with a garage underneath and a roof top terrace .

I agree with other comments, the owner is lucky to have your help. James saves the day, yet again! I wonder why more people don’t construct with blown Styrofoam insulation in the Philippines? Sounds like you have a pretty busy holiday season!
@MyPIDream
@MyPIDream Год назад
I think the difference between building/insulating strategies are geared to climates. Whereas Idaho can have some pretty cold winters, this isn't a factor here although better insulation material might help keeping the house comfortable during the hot times here. Sorry if I haven't replied to your email, will check but yes, we're really back to back on our holiday calendar with family, Rotary and community. @@paulm3538 thanks, Paul. That makes sense. I wonder if it would make a difference to use stone or concrete for the lower area of the house, keeping the parts of the house that are vulnerable to termites above what they can reach.
