I’ve been with USAA for 28 years. They had been stellar in all aspects until a few years ago. My husband ran out of gas with our two young grandkids, ages 4 and 2. Having roadside assistance, he called USAA for help since walking with 2 kids was nearly impossible. (He has problems walking and the two year old has autism.) USAA assured him that someone was on the way with 30 minute wait time. No one showed or called. After 3.5 hours and several calls to USAA, my son-in-law was able to break free from work, take gas and get the kids. It ended up being a six hour ordeal. I complained to them and nothing was done. Not even an apology.

USAA use to be the best……been with them 25+ years. Prices have climbed, service has declined……I am beginning a search for new coverage. So disappointed in USAA. If they would spend wisely and be competitive……but they are not that any longer. I have both car and homeowners with them. Use to have life insurance with them. Dropped it as it was getting outrageous in cost……then, they were in a class action law suit, which they lost. I did get money back from that law suit. They spend a fortune on ads….Super Bowl, etc. …what are they thinking? Shopping for other coverage.

I agree 100% with you Kathleen. I was a USAA member for many years and recently switched. No accident for 20+ years. I recently damaged my car because there was a large pot hole and my front bumper cracked. The total cost to fix it was 1500 dollars and my deductible was 500 dollars. My premium went from 600 dollars (average) for full coverage to 1800 dollars every 6 months. They couldn't explain why it went so high despite having a clean driving record.

We have been with USAA for all banking services since 1984. We raised 9 children through the driving years and experienced quite a few claims. I don't recall ever having a bad experience through 3 totaled vehicles and multiple other accidents. I have always believed their prices were the best for auto insurance. When we moved to Florida the homeowner's insurance was much higher so we switched that policy. My only disappointment was when they sold their investment services to Charles Schwab. Another benefit is the subscriber's account. USAA is like a coop. When you stop your auto insurance coverage your subscriber acct is cashed in. Mine is well over $20k. A nice little bonus when you are too old to drive. By then maybe I can buy a driverless car:)

The biggest problem with USAA is prices and not training their licensed agents. It takes 3 to 6 months to become fully trained to answer auto and homeowners questions. They pull these agents after training for a state test for 5 days or less and throw them on the phones in less than 5 weeks to answer different questions for different states with limited resources and system issues. Trust me...I used to be a licensed agent answering their phones. They don't care about their members or their employees at all

I like USAA. As far as car insurance, overall - not always, their insurance adjusters and representative are professional and kind with high emotional intelligence, especially after a collision. I had one who stayed on the phone with me for over an hour when I couldn't move post accident and conference call tow truck co. with me. However, no agency 100% has professional people. I had 1 negative experience in 16 years with insurance dept, which the next supervisor resolved my issue immediately and even addressed outside the scope to ask if I was in distress in a kind manner after a collision few years ago. I was actually, and I'm glad he caught that, because it allowed me to stop and reflect.

I do not have insurance through USAA but bank with them. Try calling them to talk to an actual person and when you do they transfer you for a longer wait time. In the last year my personal average wait time was about 30 minutes and that was for simple account questions/ concerns. I am not sure why the customer service (banking related) has declined so dramatically recently.

Last winter. a USAA insured driver rear ended my wife's 2005 Nissan Pathfinder. It took 2 or 3 calls to USAA Claims to get the claim started. Once that happened, things went rather smoothly. Yup I just stopped working there and worked there for the last 5 years. And I can confirm the culture is so terrible and employees are so stressed and disgruntled. I had one interview for RS position where they told me they loved my interview but because they didn’t know me that well (as in I didn’t network with them enough) they went with someone else. I’m not even bitter about not being promoted but that all the work I was doing wasn’t recognized because I wasn’t kidding their asses enough and they essentially admitted that. And that was the same situation a lot of my colleagues complained about.

@@TheComicBookLowdown Yeah I started in policy services (lets be blunt - SALES) in 2004, had to interview 4+ times to get into auto claims to get away from the sales (which they still did but to a much less degree than in PS).Started in claims in 2013 and then tried moving up to Bodily Injury in 2016-17. Once again had to interview 4+ times and never got it. Maybe I sucked at interviewing but I know I had at least one interview that I felt I knocked off their sox but got rejected. I tried taking every insurance course under the sun to separate myself from the pack. I even saw someone I TRAINED go into Bodily injury. Finally at the end of last year I got a a job at another company that was much less phone intense working in subrogation. My mistake was I wanted to give them one week notice and have my last day be 1/3/22 so I could 1) get new years day pay 2) not dump 100+ claims on my already overworked colleagues 3) be eligible for insurance for January since it wouldnt kick in until 2/1/22 at my new job and 4) Be eligible for the (constantly decreasing) bonus. Well on 12/27/21 when I told USAA I was leaving they wanted me gone by the end of that day stating some rule that if you leave for a competitor you have to leave right away. To this day I am not sure they even have the right to ask me where I am going, but yeah I was honest with them so I lost all those things. USAA is real classy huh. I worked in the Phx AZ office and Ive heard unless u work in home office, promoting is next to impossible. I did have an interview in summer of 21 with an area in decision science that wouldnt have been a pay increase but at least would have been off the phones but obviously didnt get it. It was then I realized I had to find another job even if meant a pay cut which it did. But its well worth it. I had nitemares about working at USAA till I retired answering phones for so many more years just being a slave to them and their constantly ringing phones with no hopes of ever getting off them. At my job I have today, I take maybe 3 calls a DAY now and they average less than 10 minutes, dont work any OT (its ok I worked tons at USAA for years, I need the rest now.) I have regained my sanity. Shame on you USAA!!!!

I had a former colleague of mine tell me today that they are looking to downsize on more people yet the calls have been back to back non stop for the last few months. My sister pays state farm for the EXACT same coverage $840 and by mother in law with Nation Wide : $630. I have gotten screwed too many ties having to pay hundreds and even over a thousand dollars trying to get my escrow shortage fixed as they raise prices. I have had USAA forever, and they still are the best. It is not all about what you pay, service is a factor - however, when you have a claim, you do not want to have GEICO, or many of the other insurers. USAA has excellent customer service and it is super simple to see what is going on in your online account. I have not had any claims for a very long time, and then one right after the other - a bad luck streak. They fought for me and treated me very well. I was very grateful to have not tried to save $50 going elsewhere. Stick with the top company if you are eligible. I do agree that when they were more exclusive to military officers and their families, they seemed better. But they are the best, so why change? I never will.

USAA Customer Service is NASTY! Refuse to pay for a Hit +Run or Investigate a Fraudulent Claim( tiny 5mph tap wanted USAA to pay $12,000) For decades they were great. Lately they are rude, don’t treat customers nice! It’s like some other company!! I watched your advice on auto coverage. Been with USAA for 40yrs. Yesterday I called to add a 2004 Honda CR-V. I am 70 and drive only 6000mi/ yr. When started to tell the lady what I wanted bodily inj/prop damage 250/person she asked me is that 25,000 or 250,000? I got this feeling she had NO Experience with insurance! She was just reading off a screen. Under Collision they had this “estimate +20% “ coverage that I never heard of. What do you recommend? In the end I got a $150/mon quote. That was with $250 collision deductible. Help, how can I get the right insurance coverage?
@rawn4203
@rawn4203 2 года назад
I think that +20% is what they call car replacement assistance - can only buy it (I think) with both comprehensive and collision. And then if you care is totalled under either of those coverages, it gives you an extra 20% on the total loss payout. AS an example, your total loss is $8k. Then you get an additional 20% of that 8k on top of the 8k, IE your total settlement is $9600. Again it would not apply to a car you only have liability coverage on.

USAA been with them 30 years. Let’s start with customer service 20-30 years ago USAA was unquestionably the best customer service company in the world bar none. Nobody came close in every aspect of their business from banking to insurance. No longer the case. It almost impossible to talk to a real person, if you have a question they don’t even have a call back feature you have to sit through the queue witch is often 20-60 min. If the transfer you your back at the end of the queue. I pulled out 95% of my banking and moved to Navy Federal where they treat me well, not at the level of the old USAA but far above the level of the current USAA. They gone from one of the best to one of the worst companies. I stayed just because of 30+ years but me and half my retired military neighbors are now shopping for an other company.

also USAA has only 6 month policies except in a few states where annual policies are required by law. USAA is not for everyone and is able to be more competitive in most of the northern States than in the South. especially FL which has ridiculous rates. defensive driving is allowed in all States that have adopted it. it's called the safe pilot discount and it uses a mobile app to capture data and from that data a score is calculated. a household score of 87 or above means the full 30% savings. **filing new claims is available 24 hours 7 days but adjusters are Monday to Friday only. all insurance companies have limited access to an adjuster over the weekend.

Please inquire with USAA regarding the increasing cost of their insurance for veterans in Florida. I've observed my insurance rates rise twice already this year. When I asked why it has become so expensive, I was given the explanation that they are only making $1 for every $1.10 spent due to claims, which I find hard to believe. If this is indeed the case, why do they offer profit-sharing at the end of each year? Last year, they returned over $3 million through profit-sharing. Wouldn't it make more sense to reduce profit-sharing and keep rates stable? I've noticed that as I search for more affordable car insurance options, USAA is consistently raising prices in florida by staying just slightly lower than its competitors $10 to $1.

I have been client for usaa since 2012. When I joined they were really good in customer service and had awesome credit cards that had lower credit score requirements to be approved. Over the years usaa has become more mainstream and not a very exclusive military bank only. The rates in insurance has gone up drastically even if you have great credit and clean driving record. Young and middle aged single men get huge hiked rates even if your at clean file. Usaa rates in life insurance is higher than most companies and only offer 30 years max term. Whole life is not even available. Checking and saving interest rate are nothing under 2 percent while most institutions over 4%. I can’t speak on mortgage rates but I have a feeling it isn’t anything to boast either. In conclusion usaa is mediocre and doesn’t have any advantages anymore other than it looks nice. You are better off selecting multiple products from multiple institutions.

I called them out on their fees and they won't allow anyone to go beyond or file a complaint regarding questions about fees and hidden fees. My insurance continues to go up by 20% to 25% in the last two years. The CSR talked over me, refused to allow me to question or talk about what is going on then called me a liar and put me on hold until I hung up. I've been unhappy with them for the last 10 years. My brother also had issues and went to Liberty Mutual. My daughter had similar issues. So far I'm looking into Progressive and they are coming in equal to less so for far and I'm going to be looking for better insurance. If people are wondering why they accept family members of Service Members and Veterans it’s because of IQ levels. A persons IQ is genetic, to enlist in the military one needs a minimum IQ of 83 but the average is much higher towards 115 (and no, the Infantry isn’t populated by morons, the average IQ in the Infantry branch is 120). So a child of a Veteran will have a similar IQ and military members/Veterans tend to have both parents in the home for the children so better values are baked in accordingly. It’s not a perfect assessment but it’s what USAA chose to go with, my view is that this has increased the risk levels and raised the prices on its own. But throw in the failures in USAA’s other ventures and plain old greed, they seem to care less about doing the right thing for their policy holders.

@ThinkInsurance USAA is so cheap. I work for Allstate. USAA is so cheap compared to Allstate, State Farm. I see customers pay $1,000 - $3,000 per six months if they have any accidents or tickets. Also, for "lacking in the claims department," I would say that the drivers who need to file claims, need to learn how to drive better, vs having to file claims with ones' respective insurance in the first place. Also, to be clear, the only other quote I got from State Farm, was approximately $60 more per month than was the coverages I was getting from USAA. Why would I want to pay $140 per month on State Farm, when I could pay $80 per month from USAA? For example, I dont have comp or collision because my car is from 2010, and has 212,000 miles, so actual cash value, minus depreciation, vs premiums paid for the vehicle, plus the deductible in the amount of a total loss, ergo, I dropped comp and collision coverage. I have uninsured motorists bodily injury 100,000/200,000 bodily injury liability, 100,000 uninsured motorist property damage liability, medical payments 100,000, wage earner disability benefits 2,000/1,000, death benefit 10,000, and accident forgiveness. I have also worked as a paralegal for a personal injury attorney. I have written many many demand letters to various insurance companies, for drivers with lower limits than those which I have described above. At 59.86 per six months, or $15 per week, I consider USAA to be the best value of all insurance companies, period. I have shopped around. But USAA is always the cheapest. I started SafePiolet from USAA in Sep 2022. I look forward to saving up to %30 of my premium at my policy renewal. I have a 99 driver score. USAA always will be the best in terms of coverage limits for auto insurance. USAA is the cheaptest company trust me. Other companies like ROOT insurance, may tempt you to save rates. But when you get a quote from them, the limits are state minimum coverage limits.
