I'm glad these are becoming popular in the US. Kids always waste time turbocharging their factory vvti 2JZ when they should be doing this. Probably less headache over all, instead of dealing with tuning it and then throwing rods 🙄
There’s numerous articles on NA-T on the IS forums. Compared to all options NA-T is probably the easiest and cheapest way to go since there’s already off the shelf kits with chinese turbos if you want quick low power gains, and the amount of post dedicated to the process. As people on the forums have said, getting something like the GTE in the IS is a risky move because the engine can be blown as that happened to someone on the forum before and you have to get everything tuned and wired anyways and same would apply with the UZ swap.
@Malice_Doll my main comparison is with turbocharging the factory VVTi 2JZ in the IS300, because that always ends in disaster. VVTi UZs are a dime a dozen if you're willing to pull it out of a wrecking yard yourself. Wiring the engine is the least of your worries, and no it wouldn't need to be tuned. Factory engine, factory ecu, no tune, 300hp out of the box. I never did a swap in the IS I used to own, but I did NA-T my non-VVTi 2JZ in my mkii supra and that was too spendy for a 19 yr old. I messed up too much. My point is that this swap is probably more worth it for more people than any 2JZ. This would almost certainly get better fuel economy too.
@@tannerbean3801I’m in the middle of a IS build. It ain’t cheap. 2jz GE VVTI on engine stand. Head decked , GSC S1 cams and ti retainers and spring kit. (Heads all done) MANLEY H-tuff rods , CP pistons, ATI crank damper, ARP head studs, i have OS Giken Twin plate clutch , ordering Nissan CD00A trans in a month. I have GTR R35 coils custom harness and bracket already. STILL NEED standalone, turbo (G30-900 divided or G35-900 divided or .83A/R NOT SURE) intake and exhaust manifold I need. (Probably end up going tein scroll tubular mani (expensive) and i still have not ordered anything for fuel system. THIS IS WHY MOST slap stickers on it , lower it , or get a cheap turbo kit. I just can’t do that.
@BIG JDM I know all too well how expensive custom swaps can be! It's crazy! That's why I say, a VVTi UZ is perfect. The closest you can get to a drop in motor, and you still get 300hp (roughly the most you can reliably get out of a vvti 2JZ-GE NA/T with factory internals) and way better fuel economy than you could ever get out of a 2JZ, ironically.
Nice! Real Nice. I just bought a Gs430 and I plan to do the swap into my IS 300. I am not certain but it appears that I can swap the complete engine, transmission, subframe with rack and pinion. I know that the drive shaft flange on the transmission is different from the original IS 300 transmission but I am investigating if I can use the FIGS Engineering adapter on the transmission side instead of the differential. I will keep everyone posted.
Great vid! Its funny I posted I wanted to do this with my gs300 and people were bashing me saying its not worth it and buy a gs430. SO i don't get it. Everyone doesn't want boost
Sorry for the late reply, I had notifications turned off and never saw the comments. I did the rewire myself. It was actually quite simple as far as swaps go. I had access to AllData at the time and used the OEM wiring diagrams to match functions. I also had CarTuneNZ reflash the ECU so everything communicates properly between modules and climate control in this chassis.
Absolutely beautiful. Any chance we could get a parts list? Did you run into any difficulties with the steering linkage / exhaust? Great job! Thanks for sharing :)
I don't have a formal parts list together. I should write it up and make a video explaining it all. I had to remove a heat shield off of the left exhaust manifold near the steering coupler. Then do a tiny bit of metal massaging on the manifold to clear the coupler joint. It wasn't much. I'm using the Soarer/SC430 exhaust manifolds and cats, as well as a Megan racing y-pipe for an sc430, which bolted to the stock IS catback location. Then I bolted on an Apex'i catback to that.
It's been holding up fantastic. I just daily the car, so it doesn't see much abuse like in motorsport. I've got 15k miles since the swap now, and it averages about 22 mpg with mixed driving. Unfortunately I didn't document anything. I just built it and drove it. I'd love to do another one and do a build series on it. So everyone exactly what's needed along the way.
Hi Ryan! I got a question for you. How did you tackle the problem and stopped the "TRC off" light from flashing? I'm facing the same problem after the 3UZ swap, plz help.
The traction control doesn't communicate with the 3UZ ECU. I just pulled the bulb for the TRAC OFF light. The SC430 runs a hydraulic brake actuator assembly, rather than a separate abs unit and vacuum assist brakes like the IS.
You don't need a BRZ diff. .one came with an open diff, so I swapped in the BRZ diff because it was less expensive than an IS manual LSD diff. I bought my engine from eBay.
I used one from a Lexus ES330. It nearly bolted up, and with a little tweaking it hits the throttle stop so it won't overextend. I was also able to find an aluminum pedal cover on ebay for it so it mostly matches the IS brake pedal.
I used an S3430 lower radiator hose and a worm clamp on the radiator side to collapse it to seal. Then I used the JZ lower radiator hose and cut it to fit for the upper hose, and streched that over the UZ flange. Never had a leak.
Is there anywhere I can contact you to ask a few questions? One of them is how much was the total cost of the swap I have a 05 is300 and am thinking of doing the same
I found a custom hose and hydraulic shop near where I lived. If you search for a hydraulic hose shop in your area, they'll likely be able to do it for you. However, I've recently found out that the 1st gen GS430s suction lines will fit from the firewall to the AC compressor. And supposedly the stock IS line from the compressor to the condenser fits... I'm going to source these lines and replace the custom ones eventually.
What did you do for your oil sump location? I got a 3uz out of an ls420 2002 so I gotta relocate the sump I think. Not there yet tbh but it's been bugging me lol
The Soarer engine that I got came with a front sump pan. That fits the IS crossmember with a little massaging of the crossmember at the right rear of the lower sump.
Very nice. Although I love the 2jz, nothing beats a rwd v8. Awesome man. If you don’t mind me asking, how much you have or will have in the swap? Does the factory tranny works with it or you had to use the 430?
I used the trans from the SC430. Using the SC430 engine mounts, and transmission cross member. I also reused the IS300 shifter linkage, only needing to elongate the mounting hole just a tiny bit to get the shifter to line up right with the position switch.
ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-08Lum8bGO1M.html SameOlG902 used his stock trans. Just swapped out the bell housing and front pump from a V8 transmission.
I would assume it's quicker than a 2006+ gs430 (3,800lbs) as it's lighter by a fair bit (3,300lbs). 2006 gs430 is 5.7s to 60mph and 14.4s 1/4 mile. Every 100lbs of weight removed generally equals 0.10s in the quarter mile. I'd assume this is300 could do a 5.2s to 60 and a 13.9 quarter. Faster if it has a shorter final drive than the 06 gs430. Quick, but not fast. My stock, 103k mile 2010 is350 does 5.0s and 13.6.
I've never tested it, but the reply here has sound logic. I do have a BRZ 4.10 rear diff, slightly lower than the 3.90 it came with. It feels like a high 13 low 14 car.
I had CarTuneNZ do the reflash. No check engine lights and all monitors are set. They do remove the immobilizer, rear 02's and enhance the trans and engine maps.
