To quote Bart Ehrman "Jesus was absolutely crucified"

Dr Ali Atai is a biblical scholar and Muslim too, inviting him own to explain his view would be interesting. He’s done a few presentations on Blogging Theology which are interesting too.

McLatchie seems to be a well read individual and he poses good points. Nevertheless, one finds it difficult to believe in Christianity based on historical testimonies. Notwithstanding this, excellent discourse as usual.

The Jews don't believe Jesus is the messiah... That's why they boasted lol.

"Strong historiographical evidence"? There is no conclusive proof that the gospels were actually written by the people they're attributed to, much less why they were selectively chosen (in the second century at the earliest and amongst an apparently large number of them) or how many 'changes' took place over 2000 years' worth of translations from ancient Greek (after having possibly been already translated from Aramaic) to Latin, and then to modern languages. Care to point out which historiographical evidence you are talking about?

To continue this point and ask a question: what motivation do you believe devout scribes would have to mutilate original holy writings? Surely it would be contrary to their cause to betray God’s instructions and ethos? Thoughts?

@@AheadOfTheCurveVideos Of course. That the gospels are no conclusive proof of anything, is self-evident. At its most basic, when manuscripts are translated, over a period of 2000 years, several times and in so many structurally different languages, you could argue that changes are almost inevitable, if nothing else because a language may lack the words or even the meaning of a particular word, no matter how expert a scribe is. Bibles have gone through innumerable changes only in the last 60 years. Sometimes, words (and with them also ideas) are changed, or "updated" to be more comprehensible to the readers of that specific time and date. This is just an accepted fact, and it's pretty well documented if you research the changes. But the reality is that religion has always been a powerful instrument of power and control in the ancient world, and wee simply have no idea what sociopolitical or indeed religious agenda may have driven just the mere selection process, much less why translations may have been guided to suit particular needs. It does not help that as humans we have played that game for thousands of years, nor does the fact that there are gospels that are considered actual heresies, while we don't even know why those 4 would have been chosen some 120 years after the supposed death of Jesus. We simply don't. So to make the claim that there is any variety of historiographical "evidence" is at best wishful thinking and at worst disingenuous.

@@AheadOfTheCurveVideos Either way I would like to apologize if I've offended you in any way because that was never my intention. Wish you all the best.

@@justincase6683 Hi, no don't worry I am not offended. I'm an atheist anyway! I agree, religion has been used to justify morally depraved acts, but so has medicine, feminism, you name it. The validity of a cause is not directly defined by how its representatives use it. I think what McLatchie was referencing was likely the documentations being independent and reliable for the texts that they are. Cheers James

@@AheadOfTheCurveVideos Absolutely, anything humans touch always has a measure of 'evil intent' in it. And actually I am not an atheist, I've just grown very weary of all organized religion. Either way this is a very interesting and scholarly channel, I do hope you'll get the recognition it deserves. Cheers mate. J
