I was in a similar situation in Bangkok in 2018. The insurance company's motivation for bringing me back home was purely financial. It was cheaper to send a nurse over, get me home and then handball me to the NHS rather than pay the cost at Bumrangrad Hospital.. As soon as I was delivered to the hospital back home, the insurance company costs stop. Also DO Not sign off to close the case with the insurance company unless you are 110% recovered and there is NO CHANGE of further complications or treatments needed. I learned that costly lesson.
In my opinion they have a duty of care and he should get the same level of treatment as he's getting here. I'm no expert but in my opinion they should do the surgery here and then perhaps move him back after for rehabilitation. I just think it's a bit dodgy under his current condition but they are the experts.
Good on you Nick for sticking with Ed, and those hospital visits mean more than most people realise. Ed, as a Registered health professional for many years, i can tell you that brain surgery is not as scary as it sounds. Like any organ in your body, they have got it down to a fine art, so dont worry too much and stay positive which is number 1 right now. We're all with you on this Ed. ❤
God bless & protect you Ed.🇨🇷 Sending you love & best wishes.from those of us who appreciate a great and witty man.hope these next 2 days brings the best course of action moving forward ,for all concerned .y.n.w.a. ⚽️
@@andriuscibas Why would you be so negative? No surgery is without risk. There's no guarantee you'll survive even a minor operation. But I've read that these days there's about a 75 per cent survival rate for those who have brain surgery after a stroke. I'm not sure what the situation is with Eddy but not all stroke survivors even need to have surgery.
Good on you both,Nick and,Dan for being there for Ed.Stay positive Eddy, focus on yourself to getting better and,a speedy recovery.I hope that the insurance provider will keep you there in hospital.Like Nick said, they've got top surgeons there plus the nursing care team are looking after you really well.I wish you all the best for a speedy recovery.Thankyou for the update.
Why does everybody keep going on about brain surgery? They haven't even diagnosed what it is for Christ's sake, so discussing brain surgery is ridiculous. I very strongly suspect he has Japanese encephalitis, for which surgery IS NOT required
This is a living proof that we live in a system that keeps you working your whole life , that you dedicated your younger years just to retire old and sick to die .sad Hope Eddie gets well soon. ❤❤
No one said you had to live in that system. You can retire earlier the choice is yours. Save and invest early on. I am in my 30s and do it. I won't be working past 50 if all goes well. Besides my Grandpa lived healthy to 100. It's not automatic that your health goes down after 60. You need to adopt healthier life habits.
@@jacked6 there’s always someone out there with a different perspective and opinion, my comment it’s not fits all. The system keeps you inside until you no longer have a use to it. The people with financial independence and financial literacy, can retire early if they learned how to use the system in their favor, but the governments don’t want you to know , they want you ignorant, because they want you inside supporting their system. Yeah, Living a healthier life and all that blah blah, what about illness passed onto your children and genetic diseases etc etc. I’m strictly referring to the system that you wake up everyday and contribute to until you not longer are useful. IF YOU are smart enough to save and retire with little dignity, if not , you will work until the day you die.
Bless Nick Dean for keeping an eye on Ed. I wouldn't want to be stuck in a foreign hospital with no mates or people to look out for me. All the best Ed.
I went under the knife last year in Hua Hin at Bangkok Hospital. Based on that experience I would consult with a neurosurgeon in Thailand about draining and treating the abscess rather than flying home to do it. Recovery and any therapy will be more enjoyable in Thailand. So will the caretakers. Get well Eddy!
Nick. Please try your best to keep Eddy in hospital in Pattaya for the op and post op care. My Thai wfe who is a medical nurse and myself are ready and willing to offer Eddy free full board accomodation and homecare at our lakeside home in Nonthaburi for as long as it takes for his full recovery. The World Medical Centre is a 5 minutes drive with their ISB Campus medical facilty 5 minutes walk from our house. Best wishes to Eddy and respect to you for your sincere care and support for Eddy at this difficult time.
Yes ..fairplay .. restores my faith in human nature seeing Eddie getting help from strangers ... I'm a bit of a cynic tbh ...it's nice to see people helping others out ...
Eddy should have had regular checkups each year as im a Paramedic L5 in Australia informed him 2 years ago when he had a problem and what to do then and did not many people listen many do not and then its to late sorry to say.I always have my checkups each year for everything.im still a Paramedic in the field in Australia.
There is no brain surgery required. I strongly suspect Ed has Japanese encephalitis, which is diagnosed through serology. Because this is a virus, there is no treatment, other than hydration. Eddy is in the hands of the Gods now, as the mortality rate is 20 - 30%, with up to 50% of patients suffering ongoing neurological affects after recovering. Eddy really needs to get back to the UK
Emergency in Nong Khai state hospital. Had symptoms of heart attack. Rushed by ambulance to hospital. Immediate treatment, check up. Tranquilizers in the butt. Woke up some hours later, all fine. Total bill? 330 thai baht, water included. Thank you, Thai hospital. Same hospital some years later: instant stomach infection. 100% professional check up & treatment at emergency. Drain, medicines, treatment… forgot total bill, so little I did not pass it on my insurance company. Thank you , Thai hospital
I wish I had a friend as awesome as Nick. I agree with him. You'd probably get better care in Thailand than in the UK, at least for something you need immediately, and maybe go back to the UK for aftercare. Praying for you, Steady Eddy.
Some of the world’s best neurosurgeons are in Thailand. I needed a craniotomy back in 2006, I had no movement in my left arm or leg, I got surgery and recovered and went back to work. I’m 100% back to normal. Get your operation in Thailand buddy.
I wouldn't choose the NHS èver again....... I have experience of a Luxembourg City hospital and it was marvellous. Almost a pleasure to be treated there. @@Hoxton66
So good that you have friends nearby. There’ also so much support from the great community on here you created. Sending best wishes for a quick recovery mate!
Sending prayers and good wishes for a complete and speedy recovery. Like most of us online, we never met you in person but still feel like you’re a close personal friend. 🙏
Totally support the sentiment here. Haven't been watching your channel very long but your warmth and decency as a human being comes over in abundance My gut feeling is you should stay exactly where you are, get operated on ASAP. It almost feels like it would be negligence on the insurers behalf to make you endure that type of trip Fingers crossed for you and waiting for the next update
Good on you Nick you really are a decent man thank you for all the help your giving him I hope they operate on Edd strait away if he arrives home. This is so sad for Edd and I hope and pray 🙏 that God will guide the surgeons hands and he will have a full recovery God bless you Edd
Times are tought Ed, stay strong you will see the other side of this. A big THANK YOU to Nick / Dan on behave of YT followers in being there for Eddie.
I’ve said a prayer 🙏🏻 for you Eddie you will recover iam sure, lots of us are praying for you ,You bring Light to many lives, Nick thankyou your a Top Man
Nick, I am expressing my gratitude for being such a fantastic friend to Eddy in Pattaya. Your support and kindness are genuinely exemplary during this challenging time for Eddy. Eddy, I want you to know that you are in my thoughts, and I genuinely believe that the doctors and nurses will do everything possible to help you. Your strength and positivity are truly inspiring, and seeing you smile despite everything is incredibly uplifting. You have my support and best wishes from across the pond here in Minnesota.
Nick you are a nice guy . I don't know how you have managed to retain your humility amongst the arseholes in Pattaya. Wishing Eddie all the best for a steady recovery.
Imagine judging a whole city based on your dealings with someone at a bar. Whoever that manager was he's clearly a good judge of character because you seem like a complete tosser.
The great thing about your brain is that it has no pain receptors, so it will literally be painless when you wake up from the surgery. Until I was doing cartwheels in the corridor of the hospital where you are, I would insist on staying put. Nick - you're a legend. Enough said. We're all pulling for you Ed !
Keep positive Eddie we are all hoping for the best for you mate. Great to see Nick supporting and giving a second opinion. A lot of us still eternally gratefully for NDTV shows during lockdowns all the best Pattaya community :-)
Sorry to hear this Eddy but I really hope things get better for you with the excellent treatment your getting and again to say Thanks Nick for keeping us all updated and checking in on Eddy really means a lot to Eddy of course and to all of us here. So once again Eddy slowly get better soon to either fly back to the UK or stay here and have the operation or what is needed to help you get better. All the Best from Eddie British Expat living and working in Holland.
Ed, you need to stay positive. It was great to see you laugh. You seem to have good care and so many people are pulling for you. You are going to pull out of this with a transformed attitude and you will have the best years of your life. In time you will go back to thank all these highly trained professionals for the care they provided you. You just need to take it one day at a time.
I am not a whizz kid on youtube, so I don't know how to PM Nick or Ed, but re-watching this, apart from Ed still having his humour, it is crystal clear Nick Dean has gone well beyond the call of duty, really made a big difference and really shown himself to be a top good guy. I am really pleased to see that people can be so good to others. Thanks Nick Dean. We don't even know each other, but it is heartening to see. 👍
Genuinely sorry to see you in hospital Eddy- best wishes & get mended soon mate,I’ve watched a lot of your content over the years & you’ve been like a mentor to a fellow traveler- so I’m sure thousands of us are all behind you now
For those putting down the uk. Queens square is one of THE best neuro surgical hospitals in the world. But Eddie is not in the uk and needs surgery now. Post office are not impressing me here.
100% my dad was in queens square for 6 months with a brain tumour the size of a orange , he spent a month in ITU then molly lane ward he’s pretty much back to his normal self after 2 yrs .
Sorry to hear this Ed , stay upbeat iam sure everything will work out , iam no doctor but what i hear that draining fluid from brain is a safe procedure these days, lets hope you get sorted quickly.Well done to Nick +co you guys are bloody marvellous people 👍👍👍
Yes. In case of strokes, modern medicines administered right away can dissolve the blood clot. Years ago, my dad fell and hit his head. Fluid leaked into his skull, putting pressure on one side of his brain. A small hole was drilled in the skull, the liquid was drained out, and my dad was fine, having a good recovery. Chulalongkorn Hospital has more than 7 types of lasers to shrink growths. Eddie might be better served at Chulalongkorn University Hospital in Bangkok.
Another key thing to learn is if you have high blood pressure then definitely do not do walks during the day when it is extremely hot. If you want to risk your life then go out and pretend that you have a 20 year old body. Sadly, this whole thing could have been avoided by taking medication and not going out during the day when the temperature is above 35C and the sun is baking the body. If you do have a problem that changes your physical state go to the hospital right away.
We are all routing for you Ed. Nick, thanks for being there, you're a diamond. With regard to the insurance company, from my understanding, they would want to get the patient back to the UK as soon as possible. The longer Ed is in Thailand the more they have to pay out. As soon as Ed lands in the UK he'll be handed over to the NHS for his care, whatever that entails. Further costs for the insurance company stops once he's handed over to the NHS. Hence the drive to return him to the UK as soon as possible. Worth looking at the small print of his policy or clarifying when you talk to the insurance company.
Wishing you all the best, Eddy. Your mate sounds like he's pretty switched on about your situation so I think you're in good hands. Hopefully you can fly back soon.
Hope you get better mate, lucky to have such a friend checking up on you.......old teachings say that health issues are directly related to your thoughts, if you are depressed, stressed out in a bad way, this causes health issues. When you lose hope for the future. I feel as though you had lost hope prior.
Wishing you a speedy recovery eddie. Fair play to nick for checking in on you. Good man. I had a burst appendix in india a while back and was in hospital for 2 weeks. Not nice with nobody to come and see you so nick is a godsend. ❤
I would insist on staying in Thailand for further treatment at least until the swelling has reduced somewhat. Your ability to speak seems to be affected compared to how you spoke earlier this week. Nick Dean is great, My respect for him has gone up 1000% or more for being there to support Eddy during his crisis. I've never met Eddy but I have spoken with him on his channel live streams. One thing I'll say about having the correct med insurance "Its better to have it and not need it, then to need it and not to have it." I'll make sure I am full covered when I visit Thailand in September
You can insist on staying but at that point you have to self fund. Travel Insurance stabilizes you for the journey home, that is all. The only exception would be if the doctors themselves said you were not able to fly even with medical assistance, but that would be pretty rare.
Hey EDDY. Aloha from Hawaii. I enjoy your videos and the valuable information they bring. I'm glad to see you're getting the needed care. I hope you'll be back out and on your feet again. I'll be rooting for you as I'm sure many of us well.
The best of British. Stay strong and don't drink any sneaky beers in hospital! It's a great reminder to everyone, though - travel insurance is not cheap but it's not an optional extra when going to Thailand or anywhere else, especially as you get older.
Hi Eddie - not sure if you are reading comments, but just to say you’ve got a huge follower support group wishing you all the very best. You’ve helped so many of us with solid travel advice and great entertainment, especially through those miserable lockdown times. Hope to see you back to normal as soon as you can make it through this. Good luck to you - Archie
@@JJ-vy2rhit's not wrong though to say that looking after our health is important, Eds years of heavy drinking won't help his body to deal with something like this.
Best wishes Eddie. I’ve been a subscriber for a few years and really enjoy watching and learning about places on my bucket list. I’m in Phuket for 4 months then travelling Cambod or Vietnam in August. You inspire me to explore new places while I can - I’m 73 and pretty fit so I have hopefully have a few years left. All the best for the future.Hope you can enjoy your travels for a few more yearst
Enjoy your adventure, I was in Vietnam with my partner early this year and we really enjoyed it - perhaps think about getting the encephalitis jab though as that may have prevented what has gone on with Ed if he'd had it.
Listen to your surgeon, Eddie. Nick is very down to earth and straight-talking for a medical professionl. He clearly wants to get cracking with the operation so let him get on with it and your wheels will be turning round and round in no time. 👍
@@michael-lt2lf no your right but drinking a lot daily doesn't help anyone, especially Liver etc and especially when you are effectively a tourist in SE Asia on your own mostly. I would like to see him meet someone over there and settle down and enjoy it.
Stay right where you are mate. The insurance are not on your side once you land in the UK. You are in the best place right now. Heres to a quick recovery👍🏻
Why does he need travel insurance once he's back home! They can't fund him forever, he has no home out there to recover in, he has to worry about renewing visas every 30 days. A lot of you seem to forget that he's there as a tourist and not a resident.
Wishing you a full and speedy recovery Ed and I am looking forward to seeing you up and about and enjoying your travels again real soon. God bless you and huge thanks to Nick for being there for Eddie. All the very best to you both.
Brilliant that nick is keeping a close watch on you Ed true good friend and much appreciated Hopefully the best outcome will be decided over the next few days and you have the operation to get you on the road to a speedy recovery ❤
A friend in BKK got into a bar fight wound up getting his skull cracked and damage to the brain area. He was operated on in BKK and came out fine. So they do have good surgeons there in BKK. If you return to England I hope you do not get stuck in a Q. Best of luck to you Eddy.
