Unfortunately Lawrence and co. seems to be correct on the consensus that you can't help curb, or at least eliminate, distracted driving. I live in Vancouver B.C. in 2010 the province introduced very strict distracted driving legislation. Recently the penalties were even increased quite a bit further - I believe the minimum fine is now over $500. It's helped a bit, but unfortunately is still a rampant issue. People that are very aware of the potential dangers can avoiding it if they try. While I'm sure most people have done it, don't assume it on everyone. Strictly speaking, looking at your phone in the car isn't really the problem. If the car is stopped (say at a stop light) its generally fine and I'm sure most people have at least done that. The problem tends to arises when you are actively driving (say on the freeway). That's not to say I disagree with your assessment of the situation, now or in the podcast, almost everyone does it. There are people who won't look at their phone while driving until they can find a safe situation, but unfortunately it is very rare.

ok so out of curiosity i checked it out, and their podcast is straight trash. i think they are all like 14-15 years old. the recording equipment (i dont think its even considered equipment rather then built in microphones or xbox live headsets) is trash, there is constant feedback on the mic's. they dont talk about ANYTHING other then whatever dumb game they play, and making some reallyyyy dumb overused out of date jokes, and call each other fuckboys and occasionally threaten each then belch out really irritating laughs...and trying to promote your channel on other youtubers pages is one of the easiest ways to get some major hate (this is only one of like 10 other rooster teeth/ other random channels they did this on.)

Usually places with relatively low populations don't have it. Big municipal cities will more often than not have "click it or ticket" laws for seat belts or distracted driving laws. Still, people will continue to do dumb shit behind a moving ton and a half metal block.

Still, people won't care. If someone is going to do something, they'll do it no matter the consequences. I personally don't use my phone for anything but GPS on the road, and even then I'm at a red light if on the streets and if not, I'll pull over on the freeway.

What about Tesla's large screen? Isn't that larger version of Phone that distracted you while you are driving. Or is that different because it's part of the car even though it created the same effect as phone.

I agree, but they made some good points about why nothing else would work. There would have to be very strict laws against texting like Elyse said about drunk driving and there would have to be a method of proof that's far more effective than Gus's bus cops. It would just never work. People are just too corrupt when it comes to their desire vs their responsibility.

It's illegal to hold a phone and drive here, they don't have to prove you were doing anything on it, it should carry the same weight of penalty as drink driving as studies have shown the affects are the same.

I think they said "deal with it" until then. In that case, they are probably talking about laws and police action to deal with it, not that your everyday Joe should just live with it.

Finally, the joy of working in an office next to a bunch of sales guys, but on a podcast I enjoy!

I think what funhaus is getting at was the angry event goers were taking out they're frustration on people that didn't deserve it. It would be like me yelling at the janitor because the stock price was falling. Does he work for the company? Yes, but it isn't his fault the stock price is falling. The same applies to Pokemon GO fest. Yelling at the metaphorical mouth pieces of the event isn't going to make the app start working and yelling at them isn't going to make the public relations department decide to give the fest goers a refund.

thames21, I'd hazard a guess that the CEO was neither the tech guy, nor the event planner. While he does bear some responsibility simply by being the head guy, he was surely let down by people who had been set the task of making sure the game was working for the event, and the team who should have done their due diligence in making sure they had deals with mobile operators to ensure the high bandwidth of the event could be coped with (something that is common at sporting event and music festivals)

Another reason which necessarily doesn't support nor contradict Moose's opinion is that FunHaus always talks about other people and hardly talks about what they are doing whether that be because they don't have the stories or don't want too, it doesn't feel personal, more cold and calculated talking about topics to get views rather than discussing the lives of people who a large proportion of the audience want to hear about. Of course i and many others want to hear your opinions on the latest news but perhaps a sprinkling of more personal content. Simply the opinions of a listener who feels like disconnected.

I never use my phone either. I listen to the radio like people used to do. If someone wants to text me or message me on Facebook, I'll tell them ahead of time that I'm going to be driving and they need to wait for my reply.

I get that game news is lacking and you're just trying to fill the void. It just feels really weird to talk about texting and driving for so long. Like its forced (and maybe its not). You just lost me after 20 minutes is all im saying.

We're looking at the situation practically. Do you genuinely think you can stop the human race from looking at their phones in their cars?

Bring on the self-driving cars, that's the only way we're fixing human fallibility when it comes to this.

I think its more I would hope we could reflecting on my comment now. As with anything humans do, could we stop a certain behaviour completely? No, so yes I begrudgingly agree with you there. I just think adding technology to the problem to solve it instead of correcting it with will power and consequences seems to be the current trend globally and that in my opinion is not the way to do it. It was interesting about the whole self-driving cars thing though because I do think that automobiles will go through the trend horses did when they were the main mode of transport. They're mainly used for entertainment now instead of transport. So would the same thing happen to cars? Maybe so. Having seen what can happen to someone who's been hit by a careless driver I probably feel more strongly about it than some. Laws on their own won't help much, but consistent enforcement of said laws does have an effect. The UK had an uphill battle of getting the police to regularly enforce the laws regarding phone use in cars, having had the laws in place for years before they had a noticeable effect by rather than just making examples of a few people, enforcing them on a much wider, consistent basis. Though it is still a battle to reduce it, especially regarding goods transport and taxi services. Taxis I've seen though at least go hands-free most of the time now.

Making laws is easy, enforcing them is always going to be a never ending story haha ^^
