Hey guys I just wanted to thank you for continuing to put out awesome content every day. About 4 months ago i ruptured 2 discs in my spine and i have been in constant pain every day, i lay in bed for most of the day and walk with a limp. Today i had surgery for the first time ever, the procedure wass called a diskectamy. I wanted to thank you guys because i dont know where i would be if i didnt have your videos to watch all day. I listen to dude soup every night to help me go to sleep and all of your other videos immensly helped distract me from my pain. I have been watching you guys since bruce did wrecknology at machinima, and you have taught me so much since then and i have learned alot about my self. I know Gabe said that they are working on new IP but I wouldn't be surprised if they never releases another game ever again other than dota. I would like more proper Valve games but I am not getting my hopes up, at all.

the problem is if every internet company decides to do this then there will be nowhere for the consumer to run, Internet is pretty much a necessity in this day and age so you are trapped, so if you don't want this then now is the time to speak up and tell your senator before this goes through
I think the reason the HL series is loved so much is because both HL and HL2 were revolutionary for their time. Maybe it wasn't the story itself, it was the overall polish of the game play and visuals, and if you were into sci-fi, then that was icing on the cake. I also think only people that lived through it at the time fully appreciate with the HL series is/was for PC gaming. If you're currently a younger gamer (under 20), you probably don't realize how great those games were at the time, because you grew up in an era were games and tech are more advanced.
I really enjoyed and got a lot out of their net neutrality conversation. This is the first time that I've heard a group of internet content creators have an intelligent discussion about the pros and cons about net neutrality, instead of just screaming like doomsday preachers. I'm still solidly in the Pro-Free Internet side of the issue, but just hearing a well rounded discussion of the topic that sees it from all angles was very refreshing and enlightening.
We use LIDAR's for my work as an Urban Planner and we mainly just use them for mapping or tracking of traffic either vehicle or pedestrian, google maps uses LIDAR with photos to create the 3D renders of the buildings, but I don't know why you would want one for your personal use.
I sure hope the internet stays equal and in considered a utility. As a student I have little to no income and need the internet for school to hand in work to be graded. And the area i live in only has 1 option for a net provider. I am afraid of what could happen if net neutrality fails.
As an audio listener I had to come here just to see / hear these guys try and hit the highest note they could... worth it to see Bruce hitting all of the 'notes'

Archaeologist here. Lidar is used in mapping rooms, buildings, landscapes, etc with a laser to build a 3D image of an area. It is very accurate and a much faster way of finding hidden things you wouldn't normally be able to see with your eyes looking at airplane/satellite images.

Schrodinger's Half-Life. Can't tell if it's even being made or not. I haven't thought about what that mythical animal would look like, but I did brainstorm an interesting prequel to Half-Life 2 one day in the shower. You play as Adrian Shephard helping the resistance get on its feet in the time between the two Half-Life installments, basically in preparation for Gordon's arrival. Showing how integral Gordon is to G-Man's plans.
There are so many more nuances to net neutrality that aren't as simple as "the internet should be open for everyone". We often talk about service providers when it comes to net neutrality, however the ISP is just the tip of the iceberg for how internet traffic gets from point A to point B with a hundred other privately operated pieces of infrastructure in between, none of which charge the consumer directly, and all of which have the ability to manipulate traffic.
Half-Life came out before I was born. Now I'm 17 going on 18 and I've spent most of my life waiting for something on half life 3 even though I know nothing about it. I just think that's crazy

I tried making a text based adventure for my brother based in a fantasy world and trying to balance story and the action choices was hard. I can't imagine the stress of trying to make a videogame
What I like about Half Life games are the environments/maps, the physics, and just generally the world. Also, a cool thing for the next Half Life game is maybe they add in teleportation, since that's what the Borealis is, just a big teleporting ship. And also have most of the game set on alien planets, maybe the Combine homeworld and you're just their to wreck their shit, and also maybe a space station, or maybe in space itself, just floating between portals, shooting enemies, but shooting propels you backwards, so you have to be careful of that. Maybe the game could also deal with slightly more advanced physics than "heavy object on wood plank with fulcrum underneath make opposite end of wood plank go up". Also, unrelated, but life is only better than in the past if you live in a non shit hole country or, even if you live in a good country, if you have enough money.
Half-Life 3: On the Borealis, Gordon and Alyx discover that Aperture had somehow captured the corpse of the Nihilanth from the original Half-Life and were using the arctic temperatures to preserve its body and keep it psychically isolated from the rest of Earth. They discover Mossman's body and her team's notes, stating that Aperture had found a way to combine their portal technology with the Nihilanth's brain matter to open portals to Xen, but they had hidden the Nihilanth just before the Covenant attacked their base. Gordon and Alyx solve a riddle, that leads them to the ice fields where the Nihilanth had been moved, and the recover the Xen Portal Gun. The Covenant attack, having followed our heroes and seeking a way to escape Earth after their own portal had been closed by the Lambda Resistance's rocket. They narrowly escape to Xen, after destroying the base, and have to survive the harsh landscape. G-Man tells them of the location of a Xen city, where all of the other alien refugees of the Covenant's invasions are gathered. After a crazy trek through Xen, Gordon and Alyx must convince the other refugees to come to Earth, where the Covenant is trapped, and defeat them together. This is difficult at first since Gordon did kill their previous leader, but Alyx promises them all a place to live on Earth if they can defeat Covenant.

The story is okay, more so some questions left over that i'll get over, anyone out there wondering if Gordon Freeman ever gets the courage to ask Alex Vance out on a date is lying to themselves. Mostly it's the like Lawrence said, it's the gameplay it's the immersion that gets you sucked into it feeling like it's you in a nice accomplishment feeling. It's made well when it does what it wants to do. "Transmissions: Element 120" is a fantastic mod made and sets you in a darker version of the HL2 universe. Some interesting puzzles, although less than an hour of gameplay, but it does well what it's made out to be. There was quite literally zero story in the mod, but it left me wanting more just because of how well it played out. The gameplay was simply one of the best of it's time.
i agree with James. i feel most people say they play for the story and in some cases that is true, but if the gameplay was horrible, unplayable, etc., not a lot of people would play it no matter how good the story was. The car can be beautiful, but if there is no engine, what's the point. is this true 100% of the time, no, nothing involving opinion and player approach and outlook does, but i feel it would apply most of the time. If you guys see this and read this long ass comment, i thank you lol. keep making vids and ill keep watchin.
So speaking of net neutrality, say if I was in an area where I am the only user on this internet but I wasn't paying for a prioritized service... Would they purposely slow my internet in order to get me to pay for the priority service?
Just want to dispel a misconception brought up as a possible benefit of removing net neutrality. James said if less internet traffic in his country means more bandwidth is available and for less money in another, less wealthy country on the other side of the world, then that would be cool. The problem is, that simply isn't how most major services work. Services like Netflix and RU-vid have regionalized servers that are physically located near the region they serve, so less traffic in West Coast, North America does not equate to more bandwidth in Africa, Asia, or even East Coast, North America.
i'm pretty sure the corps are already taking over. i have one option for broadband in my area, and they just announced data caps. here's an interesting notion to discuss: this particular company offers 4 speed tiers...but one data cap. to me, this suggests that i'm now able to pay 4 separate prices for the same 1 terabyte of data...but i decide if i want to use it up faster. that's not offering tiers, that's falsely convincing people to spend more money for the same data, and no change to the service that has been given for years prior to this. opinions?

They are right, I really don't care about the story that much. Gordon's story in HL2 is pretty straight forward. What I love about the game was the gameplay and the world building they made. It's so intriguing because there isn't much we know about it. It's like valve gave us this canvas and they made a couple of strokes on it but let us do what we want for it. That's why I love HL2.

Time Warner and Comcast are technically competitors, but the way they set it up is that they don't really operate in the other companies region. Its the same problem with the argument that the free market would help protect consumers by ensuring that consumers could move to another ISP should the one they are with started creating problems. They do not have another option.
Jesus Christ, what a coincidence. I finished Episode Two for the first time last week and since then I've been only seeing things about Half-Life, including finishing Half-Life 1 two days ago and Blue Shift yesterday. Now going for Opposing Force, and I'm already craving for more Half-Life. Sad to see the series fade away like this. What I find compelling about the series is the world itself, so Portal is a different game but the whole atmosphere and finding things like the Borealis in Portal 2, the Black Mesa/Aperture feud, etc is just a prestine gift that Valve gives to us. The new game doesn't need to be Half-Life, but set in the universe that IMO is the best in the whole gaming industry. People love references, crossovers, expanded universes, so tell the story of Half-Life 3/Episode 3 throughout another game set in the same universe and timeline. (i.e I just want Valve to make a new game)
This just goes to show you what the average consumer knows about how the internet works. Basically cable companies want the rules to change so that they can prioritize high traffic servers like Netflix/RU-vid etc because that's what your average consumer uses the most. Right now they work around this by putting dedicated servers in headends which is ran by the isps. Logistically it's a nightmare and ends up costing the content providers and isps more. Everyone that thinks that isps just want to throttle traffic "because greed" has a way too simple understanding of how the internet works and how local authorities regulate isps to keep them honest.
