I'm in the agricultural sector. Tractors now can drive and harvest crops themselves. Experimental drones harvesting drones are in development. AI imaging with satellite can detect problems that previously only on site humans could do as well. Lots of farmers don't own their land but rent space from large agricultural corporations taking on massive life long debt in the proces These corporations are already starting to silently replace these farmers as this technology improves and farmers contracts expire. In year 1900 farmers made up 40% of the population, down from 90% the century before. Now it's 2%. I shutter to think of the future for humans in agriculture. I don't do monocultures or tilling to preserve soil health, avoid soil compaction/loss and biodiversity so it won't really affect me personally much as my tractor use will be minimal compared to others. My work is of hands on low input requirements crops like nut trees but besides it's genuinely horrifying seeing this happen around me. I'm only just getting into this industry and can go on and on about everything horrifying about modern agriculture but this is just another problem for the pile.

My only take away from the whole AI movement and rise is that we need to find a way to make it impossible to copyright AI generated work. Even if it’s completely based off of one person‘s work who agreed to their work being used to train the AI, as AI becomes better and more efficient big companies would be willing to throw money at a few creatives who need money. I don’t know if that would even be possible but it’s the only solution that I think could actually work

In 2-3 years, you're going to see a lot of companies pop up that are using the "Made By Humans" type mentality, cause I'm sure a lot of companies and people will still want to go into business with those people. Happens with a lot of things. There's a reason grocery stores still aren't fully self checkout, and get major pushback whenever it happens. And it's not just old people, it'll be younger millennials asking for human touch too.

@@SynonamessBotchKevinit's only true if the product had roughly the same quality. For example, a handmade bags vs mass production factory bags had barely noticeable difference in quality, people usually chooses handmade bags as a fashion statement, or a stand on authenticity (art for artsake). But with AI's art, especially with media like video-game, there's a huge dip in qualities. There's two scary scenarios that can happen, either studios force down mid and made consumer eat up worse quality products OR Ai-art will become so advanced, the quality will surpass huge numbers of artists in the industry. I think the latter is the true nightmare scenario because there's nothing you can say to bring it's down, atleast business wise.

They are being desgined to work completly alone from start to finish. Designed to be able to be operated by clients. Prompting and chosing what you like and dont like is what clients do. Also I hate the argument that losing jobs doesnt matter since new ones will be created. Having followed gpt for many years now, starting from gpt-1 in 2018, all the gpt stuff is impressive, but not really as crazy as it might look. It's techniques that have been developed for 10+ years (way before gpt-1) that has suddenly been dumped onto the public. The innovation since chatgpt came out has been very incremental, not exponential, on the AI side. We are just still learning how to use this tool in new ways. Gpt 4o is just a slightly smarter version of gpt 3.5, where they managed to combine sound and video into this already existing model and gave it an AI voice. LLMs in their current state are like powerpoint. It's incredibly powerful and can do a lot of things. On surface level it looks like you can do a bunch of stuf, but after years you figure out all the insane features it has. But the software itself is not getting much better. However image/video ai's like dalle and sora ARE improving in an insane rate. We have yet to see a ceiling of what it is going to be capable of. In my opinion it is not the future of LLM's we need to be worried about, it's all the art/creative ais that are going to exceed humans soon.
@giantasparagus
@giantasparagus Месяц назад

@paroxysm6437
@paroxysm6437 Месяц назад
You're joking. LLMs have made incredible improvement in a span of 1-2 years. LLM is a major step towards GAI and it's a necessary one. And no the innovation since ChatGPT has not been just incremental. GPT-4 in terms of exams (bar/calculus) is now scoring in the top percentile in comparison to 3.5 which scores in the bottom percentile (generally). This isn't just incremental improvement lol. I've been following GPT and the language models for awhile, and the improvement rate is only accelerating. It will probably plateau in 5-10 years, but right now there are incredible amounts of resources being thrown at training massive models.
@solar_povver
@solar_povver Месяц назад
@@paroxysm6437 well, the core architecture was proposed in 2017 and remains the same all these years later: Transformers and attention. The main difference between GPT-2 and GPT-3.5 is the amount of layers/attention heads and the size of the training dataset. If I understand correctly, GPT-4 is also no that different from GPT-3.5. It is safe to assume that without a major architectural breakthrough or a drastic computational improvement to add even more parameters (also, we can have diminishing returns with adding layers as well), we might be reaching a plateau.

I’ve been working as a Graphic Designer for over a decade. In my honest opinion, it is currently really difficult to fit AI into the workflow of current teams. Sales doesn’t have the visual acuity to prompt an AI properly for their exact needs. Unless we give AI a designer’s intuition, which I imagine is pretty hard to write let alone define, the translation between the completely incoherent words of a sales is near impossible. So you’d need to hire a prompt writer anyways. A good representation of the intuition needed is the “7 Red Lines” video. It hates on designers a bit but we also experience the same problem from clients. lol

The issue is that as time goes on, labor gets more skilled and specialized. So whereas back in the day, someone working as a trebuchet loader can transition into a cannoneer relatively easily, and a few decades ago, “scientist” used to be a job title on its own, didn’t have to have a specification thrown on top like “environmental scientists” or something like that. How that jobs are so personalized, technology replacing an individuals job has a lot more of a detrimental effect on that individual. If car makers get replaced by automated factories, they can go into another type of handy work with the experience they have. Someone who writes code tho can’t really do much else with the experience they have because it doesn’t translate as smoothly into something like computer engineering or electrical engineering

It wasn't "people with knowledge jobs" looking down on blue collar workers from their ivory towers. It was bottom-of-the-barrel journalists, mainly editorialists. I will never forget the wave of journalists telling coal miners and similar blue collar workers to "learn to code" after losing their jobs, and then when the same outlets who made those articles had mass layoffs they cried out "harassment" on twitter when people would tweet "learn to code" at them. Hard-hitting journalism, or well-informed reporting still has a strong role, and so will most professions that are being replaced with AI. At least for now, though, there's going to be a lot of disruption as companies are haphazardly pushing the limit on who they can replace in an attempt to save money.

Honestly, I think the pivot smaller artists/graphic designers might have to make is instead of doing commissions, they can train their own ai off their art style and sell some sort of license to be able to use it. The technology is already out and we can see how it's leading to people losing their jobs, so I think the way to keep the little guy around is really selling that personal touch that they as an individual can provide, rather than something just as general as "I can make art for you". There will always be jobs that can have respect for actually taking the hard work a human can provide, but for the most part I think the cost-effectiveness of AI is just going to take over, so being adaptive to the technology in order to meet the price/time demands might be the only way to keep the niche around

I’m doing computer science and I don’t think you have too much to be scared of. Even if AI replaced literally all programming perfectly, there still needs to be people who prompt the AI on what tech stack they want the software to run, etc… and even though lots of people in tech are pessimistic about that because they know how much of a lower bar it is compared to coding, they all underestimate how little non-tech people ever want to even look at a terminal or config file. If AI got good enough to make entire systems with prompts that include no tech knowledge, at that point every single knowledge job is gone anyway. I think tech is in a good spot because there is an infinite amount of software that can be built, so there will always be something that a human can do even if AI is strictly better than humans.

i just hope as AI becomes more prevalent and starts to replace humans, there will be a sort of novelty for traditional, organic made art. as a graphic designer id like to think of my work as a form of art and hopefully other humans will support humans in the future.

Im a 911 dispatcher, and Ive never really been stressed about AI taking over my job before this week. But with that new GPT thing... With the rate AI technology has been increasing, its hard to imagine it wont be fully capable of replacing me within the next 5-10 years. At that point what the fuck am i supposed to do. Ill be in my 40s and all my professional skills will no longer be relevant. The only hope i have is that everyone else is gonna be just as fucked, so maybe theres a chance something might be done about it.

The software companies laying off thousands and expecting them not to become their future competition is very short sighted. In the pandemic the same compainies sucked up anything that walked to keep talent away from competition. We will se massive innovation in new companies going after the big ones. And the big ones are in the sights of antitrust efforts. AI is centralizing profits and growth right now, but in a few years a lot will happen. All devs won’t just become blue collar people. Life finds a way.

I still havnt seen ai do anything I would consider creative. They train the ai based on past work, drop their human workers, then what? The ai keeps making the same stuff it always does. Never changing the game. I think in the long term the places that keep people around to innovate and do new thing with the assistance of ai are going to walk all over the places who are trying to replace manpower with ai.

3:06 I do think AI is a major piece of the puzzle towards achieveing UBI(Universal Basic Income), which I am a big supporter of. Eventually, the ideal would be that AI has replaced enough jobs that economies can be sustained with few enough workers that UBI can be sustainable. But it also seems abundantly clear that moving towards UBI would be extremely painful in the near future. When AI has only replaced some but not most jobs, the economy is in a weird state where it still needs workers but there are also not enough jobs to go around. Personally I'm graduating as an engineer in the next 2 years so I'm very invested about the topic. I've been worried about AI since early last year and since then I've been seeing my worries slowly come true one by one. I've been trying to pivot into systems design as a way to stay ahead of AI but I feel like I'm in an arms race against AI, and that's not a battle I'm confident in winning long-term. It's genuinely a scary time to enter the workforce, and I hope we figure something out with the implementation of AI into the workforce.

@@CaidanL This makes no sense. It's replacing the 'smart' jobs NOW, and will continue to get better. No company is going to just DECIDE to give up the AI that's replaced all their workers and is cheaper for them to start re-hiring creatives, there is no incentive for them to do so.

In what I am experiencing at the job, right now AI is only replacing unexperienced software developers and making experienced ones way faster. This is, because complex tasks can not be done by AI jet. But AI has developed _so_ incredibly fast, that, in my experience, even people with ~2 years on the job can be replaced now - and AI is only getting better.

One thing I still can't comprehend is how people still want to become train/bus drivers. Maybe it will take around 5 years for busses but I'm sure we have around 95% of the technology to replace all the train drivers already. Why would you want to work there, you are gonna get replaced in an instant.

Copyright law desperately needs to catch up to AI. How is it fair that a graphic designer does one set of designs, and then the company can take those designs and create new ones while not paying the original designer anything? This is the same kind of behavior the actors guild struck against: Using actor's historical performances in AI or using AI to write scripts feels like it should infringe on the rights of people who have spent time writing scripts or performing. Allowing for AI to use everything available for free, if AI truly does a good enough job to replace people, creates a disincentive that society will not stand the test of time against. What incentive is there to make educational resources available when AI can yoink it and use it for their profits? What incentive is there to create art when AI can yoink it and use it for their profits? What incentive is there for actors, writers, coders? I don't know where the line is on what should and shouldn't be allowed to be used in the process of AI output, but it's very clear that there need to be further protections put into place. If you commission a piece of art, you can't just create a replica of it with a small piece changed and then turn around and sell that for money or use that outside of the scope of what the original piece of art was intended for.
